Windows 10

Current ISO is 9926...

The update process will effectively download the .wim file from that ISO and apply it. It's not much smaller. ;)

Don't get my you would want Windows 10 to look like an aging dinosaur that is XP
i agree
Most don't, but they do like a clean looking functional start menu rather than a vast plain of useless widgets.

but they can remove the titles from the start menu, job done. or is that to difficult.

it's not has if MS is forcing people to keep the titles on the start menu

i said this before some people will still not be happy even when MS put back the start menu

the issue I find with removing the widgets from the start menu is that you get a huge gap in its place, I removed them hoping it would make it smaller but it doesn't

previous build it did go smaller, basically looked like a normal start menu, so must be a bug.

As long as they keep the Start screen Ill be a happy bunny.

Never liked the start menu and since moving to windows 8 I've gotten rather used to the start screen....
:D

i totally agree..

but it seems they've changed the Start screen look, when you click the start menu you can click the maximum button next to the power button or go to settings then switch to tablet mode.

Unless it's a bug. Tablet setting doesn't bring back start screen :(. It just maximises apps, high is great for modern apps.
But it also changes how programs work and you cant resize normal programs.
So if a program launches in windowed mode and only covers half the screen, in tablet mode that's all it can do you can't maximise it or anything else. I hope it's just bugs/unfinished.

This version is pretty messy.
I want apps to launch full screen, can't think if anything I don't, but allow resizing of x86 programs.

They've learnt very little from Windows 8 it would appear. Still a disjointed mess.

See that best sums up to the others why I would like it to resemble my good old XP. I don’t need it to look fancy, Games yes but an OS desktop Nah. I just want it to do what it says on the tin with familiarity of windows I know. Having huge blocks of colour in apps on my desktop I’d rather live without. Nice and clear no fuss and easy to find my stuff and one of my pictures on the screen. Having a huge box telling me a poor weather report does not interest me. It takes me all of two seconds to hit my Weather on BBC for my area. Friend had Vista and it used to just tell him utter crap it was like it was hooked up to one of those weather channels that tries to cover the whole world and fails. Example Vista says cloudy 7 dull etc BBC says blowing a gale and heavy rain. You look out and can see the trees bending over and a river going down the street due to the rain. Maybe those tiles are useful I don’t know but at the very least to me it makes the desktop look Fisher price!

Then just install a free program that puts you into the desktop on start up. I use win8.1 and haven't seen the start menu since I installed it on release.

Honestly I use xp and even 95 at work and I hate both of their stupid faces

The tiles are very useful.
And there's several weather apps, it all depends where they source their data from.
I wouldn't want to live without tiles. A quick press of windows key and can see emails, calendar, metrotube(if any new videos have been released), weather, rain alarm (weather radar). Far better than several seconds checking all off them by hand.

Then things like metrotube, Netflix, audible etc the apps are far far better UI compared to website/desktop versions.

And xp is terrible, even win7 looks old and isn't nearly as easy to use.

when i tried tablet mode the start menu goes full screen they've just changed the look

Got it on my Surface Pro 3, ball ache, kept giving me black screens and not booting, tried again from different media, same thing.
Few rounds of leaving it for half an hour and then hard resetting and now its alive.

simply remove the titles then....

MS won't just make windows how u want it, just for u.. you'll have to customize it how u want it either using 3rd party software or build-in options/settings

tbh xp looks old, even win7 looks old.

Does clicking a notification do anything for anyone? I keep getting them about security stuff but cant actually click to take me any further?

The icons are pitiful. My god are they pitiful. The music icon, Lol!

No need to install third party now... there is a reg key modification to get it back.

Also some nice new UI tweaks for you modification freaks. :)

Code:
[B]"Get Start Menu Back Pre-Jan Build"[/B]

Step 1, Open Registry as an administrator and navigate the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Step 2, Finally create a new DWORD called EnableXamlStartMenu and leave the default value of 0.

Step 3, Reboot.

Code:
[B]"New Task Tray Clock UI"[/B]

Step 1, Open Registry as an administrator and navigate the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell

Step 2, Now, create the following DWORD: UseWin32TrayClockExperience and change the value to 0.

Step 3, Reboot.
