Windows 10

has anyone installed it yet as their main OS?

tempted to give it a try

I might give it ago tomorrow. I'll backup my win7 bootdrive then I'll upgrade to win10 because theres so much todo doing a clean install, thats if win10 is worth keeping

Is there a time limit on win 10, like 30 day trail or something, basically will it keep going until win 10 is released? But if win10 is anygood and stable, i'll prob keep updating it to the latest builds anyway.

My win 7 machine went fubar after picking up an std so I'm going to give this a go as my main o/s, I don't do anything mission critical it's all average joe usage but will give it a whirl, still have win 7 on my spare and elementary linux on my laptop to fall back on.

Got a few spare hard drives so just installing this on one of them, give it a whirl see how it goes - any hints or tips from anyone ;)

In keyboard options you can go in and disable the auto correct language settings. Its for tablets and I dont know of any other setting thats logging key strokes.

If you want less loggin you can disable some of the services used for reporting back to ms. Also note that the windows feedback app makes a note of your running applications and the titles so don't use an ms account or open windows feedback if you concerned.

When signing in if you say you dont have an ms account it brings up an option at the bottom for using local account only. That is what i do.

So technically that is a keylogger. man thanx MS, hey hackers exploit this... That is why I do bank stuff/estore buying in linux... I hope that will be in the smartphone/tablet version only... Not in the computer version just turned off...

It won't be in any version. Calm down.
It's there to improve w40 while it's in development. So they can see how people are using it etc.

They are not charging you to use or forcing you install it, are they

It can be disabled, fixes on MDL.

Well I have just upgraded to windows 10 from 7. I did a clean install at first, but then I decided todo a upgrade, because there were so much I had todo with a clean install, plus I had to use my microsoft online account to log in to windows for some reason?

Anyway its just finished windows 10 upgrade and heres what I am greeted with.. 2 things I hate straight off are the colours of the windows borders/task bar and my apps in alphabetical order......... YUK. I got rid of the search bar from the start menu too, so it only pops up when clicking on the start menu.

It looks like all the windows 7 drivers has been successfully transferred to windows 10

To be fair it's not exactly anywhere near obvious how to avoid using an MS account. They hid the option to not use an account in the screen where you create a new account, because they are Microsoft I guess.

Ummm well Ive been using it for a few hrs now, and Im not sure what to make of it so far, but I havent run into any problems and all of the programs I have used seem to be ok.. Its just the bold windows borders and task bar colours that just look so dated. But Im guess all you guys that are comming from windows 8, the colours look fine. I guess I just have to get use to no transparent window borders ect,

Atm I have windows running from a hdd, so tomorrow I think I will upgrade win7 thats on my ssd to windows 10, and use it for a few days.

I see that I can just run ms update when a new build comes out,, instead of reinstalling win10 again.

Edit: Getting the start menu a bit sorted now

I will not using Windows 10 (even if it was free upgrade for first year) because it will going to end up pay monthly subscription fee. So, it's a NO from me.

Move onto Linux Mint 17.1 and I love it so much. Far better than Windows.

I note the preview ends on 15th April. Does that mean it stops functioning? I was hoping to use it until 10 was officially released to save buying windows 8.

Depends on the use firstly but Windows is the most compatible and has the most software support of all OS's. If you can live without playing the vast majority of games, software such as Office, etc. then that's fine but basing your decision on a thing that you can't possibly know is a bit daft.

Oh come on, use your brain a bit. It just takes a little bit of critical thought to understand the implications your suggestion would have.

If Microsoft are anticipating a large move to Windows 10, on what planet does it make any sense at all for them to force a subscription model on them afterwards?

You're an enthusiast and you didn't even get it, so do you really think Microsoft would do that knowing that they can't rely on lay people to understand that they have to start paying after a year and possibly be lumbered with an OS that doesn't work properly?

Lawd, of course not.
