Windows 10

Well Im just about to go back to win7, because win10 Isnt anything special, a bit like windows 8 was. Also I think look wise microsoft are going backwards and not forwards, as windows 7 is a far more attractive OS then 8, and 10. Im sure microsoft can better windows 7, but why oh why make another windows 8 with windows 10. basically the only thing they have slightly improved on is the start menu, and even thats nothing to write home about.

I love all the hate - it's a preview build, stuff will change!!

I doubt its going to improve all that much,, as Im guessing it will be mainly bug fixing?

I wish some people would get over Win7,it's not special by any means ,just a rehash of older operating systems and that is coming to its EOL,Win10 is a lot better IMHO and that says a lot being only a preview build,I take Win8.1 or 10 over Win7 anytime.

Btw you want best looking OS go Linux,Win7 can't even touch Linux on looks.

I agree with you 100% I hate Windows 10 :mad::mad: LINUX MINT 17.1 is a WINNER for me!

Well you here ppl on here saying, windows 7 looks outdated, we need something new. Well windows 8 and 10 looks far more outdated then 7 does, Plus what improvements has 10 got over 7.. Im thinking its just about MS lining there pockets, or trying lets say.

Yep, free upgrades for a year. Those pesky pocket liners.

Its like they just want to make money. Why on earth are linux evangelicals looking in a windows thread? Won't torvold pour kernal into your eyes?

considering 8 has multithread, file, stability improvements over 7 and win 10 seems to have this, dx12 and a few other nifty tricks and its free.... I'll go for it thanks! Now hush and let me read about the Guinea pigs experiences!

XP users said same thing however things more forward ie progress, you ask what newer Operating Systems have over 7 ie improved security, improved performance, new features,OS that caters for all hardware unlike Win7,DX12 etc I could go on but even you must see my point.

As for lining their pockets ,you do know you (Win7/8 users)get Win10 free( for life if you upgrade within first year),last expensive OS was actually Win7 ,even Win8 was going for 15 and 25 quid on their promo on launch, some users are never happy.

I would genuinely like to know what improvements people are liking from 10 rather than just reading the same old flaming from each opposing side.

Windows 7 does look a little dated in some areas UI wise but that is to be expected seeing as the underlying format of the user experience is decades old.
I don't think there is anything fundamentally wrong with the way Windows 7 works at all, but the design elements could be streamlined.

Win7 works more or less like Win95, so an updated UI was long overdue,I could argue Win7 looks like Vista and go backwards from there but then Win7 users only think of Win7 and nothing else ,how ironic.

Yes I have used and owned every OS since DOS 6.22(excluding WinME that I did not buy).

Yeah everyone keeps on saying about the improvements but what are these.. and about the security. Win7 should be as secure as 8 or 10, because thats why we have the updates.

Now dont get me wrong here, I really want a new OS too, because yeh win 7 is getting on a bit now. But Im not just going to have a OS because its the lasted and greatest (umm maybe not the greatest).

But this is the thing everybody wants the latest stuff thats out and thinks it must be better, but is this really the case here?

The only thing I really don't like about the latest build of 10 is the ugly document icons

They are horrible compared to the icons in 7 and 8.1, and they are not even consistent, it's a mix of old and new so far. I really hope they improve these on a newer build and certainly by the final release. Other than that I really like 10.

Windows 8.1 icons vs 10 icons :(

Sorry for the horrible photo quality.

Its like windows 8, ms focused that mainly for the tablet user, and theirs ppl thats saying its awesome for the pc. The only reason that they say this, is because Its the latest version of windows, so it must be great, or they try real hard tp like it because they have bought it.

All that ms has done with 10 is taken windows 8 and made it more desktop friendlier but with a uglier UI and thats it, windows 10, your going love it... what a let down:(

I don't think you know what outdated means...

No they didn't focus Windows 8 mainly on tablets. I don't think you understand the implications of what that even means.

You really need to just accept that people like things that you don't and stop with the suggestions that people are either lying to others or themselves that like like Windows 8-10 or that they only like it because it's the latest and they must have the latest.

You are coming across as extremely closed minded, ignorant and uneducated with the way you form your posts.

NO, will be lot worse!

Windows update is missing on the system!

Go back to the Linux thread you are drunk.

Shock horror as people like different things & nope I liked 8 before I even bought it (good ole tech previews)

Yeah they did as tablets was all the rage back then and ms wanted a part of it, so they made a OS mainly for the tablet user.

Yeah Im sorry, everyone likes different things, but for me personally windows 8 and 11 is better then 7 just because its the latest OS, But win7 works, looks and feels much better then 8 or 10

but I so want a new OS and Im still hopeing win10 is going to come good but Im not having high hopes for it, as I dont want to stick with win7 for another 3-4yrs if possible

Nope! They all installed and activated without my help.

Are you using the same email address as your login as the Windows Insiders registered name? Maybe these are needed to do the activation?

Same email address, yes. I'll need to have a proper look at it tonight. On previous builds I clicked activate and it couldn't reach the server at the time.

I'll check to see if my partners laptop is activated and that it is just the desktop I've been having issues with.

People won't like this but you are going to have no choice soon enough. I suspect Microsoft are looking to drop versions and move everyone to a unified platform - Like OSX.

Windows 10 isn't the 'next' Windows. It IS Windows. A platform to sell you apps and push subscription based services like Xbox Music etc.

The bottom line is they'll look to dropping all support for anything but 'Windows' 10. Which in my opinion is a great thing. Working in desktop and server support for the best part of 10 years I welcome compatibility - it's less about the way it looks and more about the features for me.

If everyone keeps playing the grumpy old man who doesn't like change we'll carry on with the same problems we've been having for the last decade - Fragmented and unsupported systems and applications. Change isn't a smooth road but if you never let them lay that 'new tarmac' you'll never know.
