Windows 10

So, still can't figure out why my action centre notifications won't work, bar the icon in the taskbar going white.

Help. :( Useless to me if I don't have the notifications!

I was thinking... maybe I should just leave my os on my existing 180gb SSD

The current 1800gig SSD is an older Intel 330 Series

My new 1TB SSD is the Samsung 850 EVO

Would it be worth the hassle having the OS and frequent used apps on the 850 EVO (I presume it will be quicker than the older Intel SSD)

I have done several "upgrades" for people to help them with their Windows 10 installation and generally it has been fine (ensuing Macrium backups have been done first) but we will be visiting our youngest daughter and she is wanting me to help with her Windows 7 laptop.

If I get the chance to take it away with me, only a short visit, I'll feel better about doing the process but is it possible when using either the media creation tool or a prepared USB stick with the ISO to select to not keep the files, settings and applications etc of the previous OS and for that to be ok for activation....? It would save time having to reset the OS once installed providing that it would still activate.
Up to now I have always kept those files and done a "full upgrade" and only on my main PC did I then do a clean install on a formatted drive.

Yes that is how I did the update on my Win 7 laptop. Just bear in mind that the O/S won't give you the option to roll back afterwards if you go down the route of a clean upgrade/not keeping any previous files/apps/users. The windows.old folder will still be retained on your disk.

Many thanks for that :)

A Disk clean up, after the install, should resolve any residual stuff to clean. as long as I do a Macrium Reflect backup on her laptop first of the W7 working install I'll have that if needed.

All upgraded and everything seems to be fine! Activated fine and looking good, just deciding whether I need to keep rocketdock or not now!

Gutted I can't use the Win+G record feature due to not having a Geforce 600 series, only have a 560Ti :(

Girlfriend walked in, commented how it looks the same and left!

I was suprised with the requirements for this, my 7950 *just* scrapes in, even though it's been rebranded as the 8950 and R9-280. My brother has my older 6850 which I'm pretty sure would be fine with recording...

Sorry I haven't read the whole thread but what is the general thought - worth an upgrade on a PC from Win 7 or not?

Searching on google shows its riddled with bugs and not that much of a general improvement so to wait a while yet, but wanted to see what the OcUK opinion is?

If you do a clean install, you won't get any major bugs. 10 has been rock solid for me and doing the same on other PCs they're fine as well. A friend did an upgrade keeping his apps and files and it was a mess, but doing a clean install afterwards solved his issues with 10.

There are plenty of people who have upgraded without any issues too, me being one of them.

Has anyone tried to install for a second time on different hardware? Whats the deal? Is it telephone activation?

Just installed these on Windows 10 and every game works perfect! Great Find! Add to sticky under a new Windows 10 games section buddy! :)

I am going to add them to my shares too so people can grab them directly from another source.

I missed this :) Yes they all worked for me too. I dont play windows games very often but they are ok for killing a couple of mins :)
Ill add them to the FAQ :) If you could email me your link to your source ill add it as an alternate download :) (if thats ok)

For some unknown reason, my windows key for 8.1 has been deactivated. It has always been activated until now and currently just telling me "Windows can't activate. Try again later". Anyone else had this while still on W8.1? Is this related to W10 somehow?

i take back the nice things i said about edge lol
it does use way more memory than chrome/firefox it just puts tabs to sleep to save memory
nice feature for some im sure but not when you dont want it to do that, with them all active it uses twice as much memory as the other 2 browsers keeping them all active
...ok some of that memory might be extra ads it cant block but still...not great ;_;

if you only want to keep one window open its nice! like for tablet use etc
...and it scrolls nice and smooth for tablet

not all bad but it tricked me! >.<
