The cheap keys work, however if you change hardware then usually activation will be lost and you'll have to get another. If you call MS they'll tell you that you've previously used a pirated key or OEM key etc.

By hardware, do you mean changing motherboard, cpu, ram (which i didn't need to do for a long time) - something like that - or would that also include replacing a gpu and maybe doing a clean install on a new hd (if the original hd fails)? Also, i got the key for £7.50 so a big difference between that and official price.
Well, clean install on a new drive should require a new key. Motherboard change - too.
CPU change, RAM change and GPU change are "minor" changes for Windows and the current key must remain activated.
As above, it's mainly after a motherboard change, but I have had it with a HDD build and also one random time when reinstalling. I don't know how the activation mechanism but I don't think it's strictly tied to your motherboard. I got fed up so I just bought a proper key through my business but I used 'cheap' keys for 5/6 years without much of an issue.
sounds harsh to me (having to get a new key after a hd failure), since, i'm guessing they can tell the rest of the pc components, particularly the motherboard are the same? (i.e. it's likely the same person installing windows on the same system, just that they've had to change hd).
ps, i've needed perhaps a couple of reinstalls of windows since 2010 or so, fingers crossed (one of those was switching to an ssd) so, at least, for now, i'm probably better off with getting a cheap key.
It's not harsh, they're OEM keys or dodgy ones from other countries. If you buy a genuine key there are no such problems.
Is there a way to change the desktop fonts in windows 10? I wanted a bolder font on the desktop. You could do that in earlier versions of windows, like this: https://mcmw.abilitynet.org.uk/windows-7-changing-fonts

When i first changed the settings using the display options in windows 10, it completely messed up the horizontal and vertical icon spacing on the desktop so as to make the desktop unusable, which required another regedit to fix: https://mywindowshub.com/how-to-change-desktop-icon-spacing-horizontal-and-vertical-in-windows-10/ Thankfully that one worked.

Had this one through this morning when i switched on (my updates auto-check).

but it didn't auto down and install, like the bottom of that article says it should.
Mine looks like this now :-
so, do i have to click on download, and do it manually (as i can't even do a check for updates now with the Yellow Triangle there), but i don't fancy doing that though, as ive just read that it breaks the Start Menu for some, and fails to install for some, Critical Errors, oh eck, what to bloody do!

Had this update yesterday, no problems so far, start menu is fine too.
