Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

I have cut the lawn again today for the last time (again). Cut it to 60mm and hope it stays cut. Partially shaded the greenhouse on its shady side with an old mattress cover and last year's geraniums are keeping warm. A few cayenne peppers are still turning crimson.

Weather cool and cloudy.
Cut the grass too. While it stays unseasonably warm it'll just keep on growing once the average temperature drops to around 10c it'll stop until then you'd better keep the mower on standby.

We had our first snow and it's been minus for a good few days :/

It's meant to warm up next week I see even +10

I'm coming back to London for a week so I'm sure it'll start raining as soon as I hop off the plane.

Its dry if dull this week next week all bets are off. But I'm 99.9999% certain its not going to snow.

I really think this winter is going to have a nasty bite to it at some point! It's way different than last year, there's no ooomph in the jet stream, and it was never this calm for so long! I know we had a lot of rain previously with records being broken, but even that was because of the jet stream being rather slack and low pressure systems stuck over or near the UK. When was the last time we had storm after storm with gale force winds? Most of it has gone through the Med! It only needs the high pressure to be pulled towards the north west like some of the models are suggesting and winter comes

Well 14 days of blanket grey here. We are stuck in a "anticyclonic gloom" apparently. Horrible. Looking like a bit of sunshine next week though, can't wait.
Out to cut the grass now. Don't think I've ever cut it this late in the year.

Yeah gloom here but seeing some waves from a mid Atlantic low

Could be worse. At least it’s dry and not very windy. Great cycling weather! But a bit of sun wouldn’t go a miss.

I don’t remember a Remembrance Sunday where it rained. Did 6 parades as a Brownie and Guide.

It wasn’t fun on the last parade as a Brownie. First was my uniform (brown dress) was too tight without a vest underneath. The new uniform was launched. My parents refused to buy the new uniform for sake of 2/3 months (I wore normal clothes for the last few months at meetings) I was selected being the flag bearer for the Brownie pack as I was the tallest and eldest! The flag bearers had to stand outside for longer than the rest of the parade as we were the last ones to enter church and first to leave.

Definitely a change on the way towards the end of the month but hard to know what, but definitely a change.

Fairy mild here currently.
I've got a thermal base layer on, and it's borderline too warm.

I'm waiting for some actual chilly days to have the log burner on for more than a few hours.

We had loads of storms across the UK last year. Think we had our 4th or 5th named storm a year ago today. So far it has only been Ashley in NW Scotland
