Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

I had one of those automated alerts just now, scared the bloody life out of me.

Wind is kicking up a bit now, but I am fairly sheltered so should be ok.

Same, not helpful when trying to settle a 2 year old :-D

Huge inconvenience, it’s said 2 year olds birthday party tomorrow and likely few people can even come, we’ll be stuck having cake and nibbles for dinner every night next week!

It's starting to get really windy here.
In the red warning zone. Could be a lot of damage as its worse just a few miles west

Still not put the heating on. It just doesn't get cold enough unless your old or have young children
Mine's been on, since the cold spell in mid-November, but not all the time. I suspect we're in for a cold winter after Christmas, especially if the what we've had is anything to go by.

Not too bad here mostly, now and again a pretty brutal gust, we are just outside the main warnings zones though, if it is significantly worse further into the South West probably going to be a ton of trees down.

EDIT: Getting some fairly hefty sustained wind now - saw a passing car get blown well across the other side of the road oof, very inadvisable to be out driving now I reckon unless absolutely no choice.

It was quite windy here in Bristol last night.

The Mrs had the text alert thing at 10pm and I didn't get it. We both have phones on the same mobile account!

Big gusts woke us up for a bit last night at about 4am, but after fully shutting the bedroom windows we got back to sleep.

Looking out of the front window a neighbours wheelie bin has gone over, and in our back garden a potted palm tree has toppled.

I'll check the roof tiles later this morning but it's looking like no damage so far.

Good to read in the news there are no reported deaths.

The strongest winds are due through today though.

Lots of trees down or leaning at crazy angles around here - I made the call not to go into work just not sensible, they closed my main route to work just after that anyhow, the other way is on and off - had 2 down, 1 leaning on power lines over the road which they'd been clearing but I'm not messing about in these conditions.

Surprised they've not closed work, maybe not so bad around there I dunno, but out this way it just isn't advisable to be on the roads unless you absolutely have to be.
