Like all the Lannisters (excluding tyrion) you're meant to hate her!

Don't get me wrong, I think Joffrey's character is a spoilt, limp-wristed little runt and can't wait till something bad happens to the other villain - Vaserys (sp?) - but Cersei and Jaime's characters just seem like (mostly) normal people looking after their own.

Bit of a contradiction no?

I'd say chucking a child off a tower is quite a nasty thing to do...

That is an excellent reason, but what else was he to do?

EDIT - and did no one honestly see Bran climbing the wall and think "I know exactly how this is going to end."?

CAN WE LEAVE SPOILERS OUT OF THIS THREAD AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE PLEASE! (Until the episode with that part of the plot has been aired).

Thanks. :)

Well he didn't exactly show remorse or hesitation when he threw him off. It's pretty obvious he's an antagonist as opposed to a hero. That said, despite what he did at the beginning, he's shown in a better light than the rest of his family. Its odd that an act like that at the beginning can be so easily forgotten with enough character development.

We don't exactly see much of him in the series and I don't imagine he was portrayed in a more positive light in the books, so it's perfectly possible that the character is deeply uncomfortable with this and many other things off screen. I'm not saying I think the character is a great guy and high five for pushing a boy off a 30 foot drop, I just don't think he deserves this hatred that people have.

Edit - I'm pretty sure that episode has been aired here:confused:

It wasn't at you. :) I just saw spoilers at the start of a post which sparked me into action! :p

I tried really hard to look at their faces but I couldn't tell! Go on, tell me who it was then, email in trust! :p

Are you being serious?

It's made abundantly clear slightly later on when the two lords are talking about watching each other exactly who they are... Even if you couldn't work it out at the time.:p

Oh yeah, I did realize that one of them was *ahem, ahem* a certain member of the small council, but I wasn't sure who the person he was talking to was! It's hinted at by Littlefinger and I could make an educated guess, but I couldn't see his face so I didn't know for sure! :)

Is it just me who doesn't dislike Cersei's character? Well aside from the whole rumpy pumpy business that is.

King Robert is the only character I don't like. He is still "grieving" for Ned's sister this many years down the line and takes it out on everyone including his wife! To be honest, I'm not surprised that all her children are from Jaime.

And it seems to me like the only crime the Kingslayer has committed so far is wear impeccably shiny armour. He is looking after his family as best he can and his brother has just been taken hostage for a crime that he is responsible for.

he's a pompous arrogant little ***** with grand ideas above his post. He thinks he can have it away with the queen and partake in incest and get away with it all as he will kill anybody that dares try to expose them.

He tried to kill a 10 year old boy to keep his incestural relationship a secret and when that failed sent an assassin after him to try again!

He has impeccable armour because he's a coward and a crook. He doesnt do fair fights and instead prefers to stab people in the back and double cross them.

What is there to like about him ? lol

as for Cersei, well if you've read the books you'll know whats coming. A seires or two down the line you might not think the same ;)

Jamie should get whats coming to him imo.

I've gone back and watched all 5 episodes from my sky planner again to refresh my memory. So much stuff that i didn't quite understand 1st time round that makes sense when you see it again. First time i saw the two men i had no idea who they were. Probably because one of the characters had only been briefly seen in one or two episodes and thus his voice wasn't familiar to me. The other i thought i recognized but again, having watched all 5 episodes his voice was immediately familiar with me so its obvious who is conspiring with who.

I don't like the bloke but he's hardly a coward who avoids fair fights. He steps into a one on One fight with Ned who is reputed to be one of the greater fighters in the kingdom. He doesnt cheat because you can see how annoyed he is when the other guard stabs Ned (he decks him)

Also he's in the kingsguard, they are the best of the best, he's there for a reason.

Btw at this stage of the books I hated him too, his character has been portrayed well despite my initial forgivings after the first episode.

Throughly enjoying this series, best TV I have seen in a while.

I usually like magic in my fantasy. Is there any in the books at all?

he's in the Kings guard because he's the brother of the Queen and sword to protect the king, even though he hates him.

Hea not in the kingsguard because of his sister, it has absoloutly nothing to do with that, it has even stated so far he was in the kingsguard before his sister, hence the kingslayer nickname of his. I won't say any further about how/when he joined incase its something they look at in the future in more depth.

he's in the kings guard because he's a lannister. They all want to weasel their way into positions of power and influence through their name, rather than on merit.

Bear in mind the comments stark made to him about the condition of his armour and carefully choosing his opponents. He only picks fights he knows he can win. Like stabbing the king in the back. Then there was of course the comments about the lannisters staying out of the revolution by Robert and Eddard against the Targareyans until they knew which side was going to win.

One thing the lannisters are not, is men of honour. They serve only themselves.

Them two parts are true, though the second less so if you know more about Jaime.

If you want me to tell you the truth then mail me in trust. I will not say more in the general thread in case the details are looked at it in more detail in the show. Suffice to say he is not in that position due to the reasoning you give.
