I rewatched it last night and thought the same after the second viewing as I did the first - an expertly crafted masterpiece.

It absolutely nailed the hopelessness of the living vs the dead. The fear in what up until now we’ve known to be fearless.

I can’t believe we have people obsessing over where Arya appeared from when there’s walking dead, dragons, witchcraft and two characters brought back from the dead at play.

Absolutely brilliant episode. Theons moment was 100% badass, even more so than Jorahs.

the hopelessness of it was amazing, very atmospheric, liked how there was nearly no dialog at all

only very slightly disappointed that so many main characters survived, and that it lacked any "clever" moments, it was just a massive scrabble and a lucky quick stab at the end
lots of wasted opportunities for what could have been highlights, John Snow, Brienne, Jamie, The Hound, Bran etc didnt really do anything impressive other than survive?

At least Berec and Jorah went out with style

Lol, James Corden amused me on the late show about it. “What with Game of Thrones and Avengers: Endgame, this was like Super Bowl weekend for virgins” :D

Oh yeah, I remember saying "here comes the burning oil" when they started to World War Z the castle wall, but then nothing. Burning oil is a classic castle wall defense strategy, and fire in this instance would be even more effective than normal.

I can only assume Bran warging into the ravens (only after the trenches were lit) was his attempt to draw the NK out and into combat? considering how dire the situation had become for the living.

Got to admit, I thought the same when there were cries of "to the battlements" as they retreatedfrom the front lines.

What?

I expect the vast majority of fans for both are not virgins at this point. What a stupid divisive statement that is about as mature as said audience.

Saying ‘geeks’ instead would have been correct, but not immature enough for the Gavin and Stacey fans.

Wow, you really do get offended by absolutely everything don’t you?

It’s a lighthearted comment, why do you have to take literally everything so seriously? I really hope you can improve your outlook in life mate. Life doesn’t have to be so serious and confrontational all the time.

It was a joke?

 I’m mad ok, I wanted some consistent story telling and not pandering to mainstream weirdos.

My take on it is thus:

There were a lot of stupid decisions and missed opportunities — all of my criticisms have already been covered many times in this thread.

However, I still bloody loved it!

I suspended my disbelief at all of the stupid tactical decisions and the main characters surviving insurmountable odds, and just enjoyed it for what it was — damn fine television.

I was most worried about the darkness but it wasn't really a problem for us. We turned out all the lights and as we weren't watching on Sky/Now TV, we didn't seem to have the compression issues many of you experienced.

Can't wait for the next instalment.
