World Cup 2010 - Final (Sunday 11th July 2010) **spoilers**

CAn't help it, all through the Euro's, all through the world cup, in the games he was allowed to play in that is. All the commentators said so in all the games, also most of the people commenting on the game said it was fairly even for 90 mins but the final 30 was almost all Spain, and with Fabregas coming on in the 85th ish and not really up to speed till extra time.

Muller won the Golden Boot award, joint on goals but more assists, he was truly outstanding and played a similar role to Forlan, not sure how Forlan won the Golden Ball award, for me Muller was by far the stand out player of the tournament, Forlan went uninvolved for large parts of every game, Muller defended brilliantly or attacked brilliantly for every minute he was on the pitch, he's also 20, and won the Golden Boot, and won the best young player award, he deserved the best player award aswell.

Absolutely outstanding, and we were all completely robbed, by a Messi handball that Muller was given a yellow card for , ridiculously, to see a Spain vs Germany final with the tournaments best player involved, Germany were a different side without him, he was involved in just about every great move they made in the tournament, either assist, scoring, or being heavily involved in the build up or even winning the ball back in his own box to start off an attack.

I would love for ARsenal to buy Muller, Oezil is half the player Muller is and only really had 1 stand out game.

Spain changed when Navas came on, not when Fabregas came on.

lol, Navas was appauling, he also came on quite early and with almost everyone agreeing they improved in extra time, not what the 65th minute or so. Navas was WAY better than he was in the other games though, in all his other appearances he hadn't managed to produce a single ball into the box, it was either sliced out for a goalkick or went out the other side for a throw in, I've never seen someone overhit the ball that often. Think it was that second game he started, that he got so much of the ball and didn't get a single dangerous cross in. His one dangerous cross though really wasn't great, only a poor clearance made it seem half decent.

I also assume Navas created several chances on goal, almost scored, or got the assist to win the world cup final, no, you're right, that was Fabregas.

Um, yes he did. Set up Villa for the best chance of the match with a cross, then almost scored with a drive.

Fabregas on the other hand missed a one on one, then almost helped Netherlands score when he blocked Casillas from the corner straight afterwards...then he did a simple pass for the goal, it was hardly magic.

I agree, Navas was actually very good today.

Fabregas almost blew it when he didn't pass to Villa for his one on one.

LOL at the people saying Spain didnt deserve to win it:p

As far as im concerned the best team won it which was Spain...Dutch can moan all they like but they had a fair few chances to win it themselves along with Spain.

Iniesta scored a superb goal which was made by???....yes Fabregas. Ive said time and time again every single time Fabregas comes on for Spain they look far far more dangerous up front. Oh and if Barca want him...you can have him for £60mill no more no less...Barca can now see his worth to Arsenal...always there to make things happen.

As for Dutch...Van Bommel being his nasty self with some of the tackles and Webb should have sent off De Jong in the first half for that kung fu he did on Alonso...so Dutch were extremely fortunate not to go one man down then because it would have definitely been game over. Robben as usual diving around like a woman...then expecting to get a penalty which it never was...good on Webb to yellow card him...reminds me of Drogba in the CL semifinal a few yrs ago.

Anyhow OLE OLE OLE SPAIN 2010 WC champs and deservedly so....plus i made a bit of money on Spain so i am pretty chuffed at the moment.

Enjoyable game I thought, both teams played pretty well, Spain looked comfortable on the ball as ever but Holland had a few decent chances, that Robben chance was absolutely golden with a great save from Casillas and also the Dutch keeper pulled off a good save too against Villa (I think it was?)

I actually thought Webb had a good game keeping the players in check when it got a bit heated at times - that said I think he should have cautioned at least one of the Spanish players for the innumerable times they surrounded him and were begging for cards to be shown, I could have sworn that was supposed to be cracked down upon but I can only imagine that FIFA have told the referees otherwise for these finals.

The Spanish (and Dutch at times) play-acting for every 'injury' was pretty pathetic/entertaining (delete as applicable) but I didn't think it detracted too much from the game as the officials and other team got the game restarted quickly enough for it not to be a major issue.

Watching it as well just served to highlight quite how technically deficient the England team is :(

*edit*

Oh and anyone saying De Jong should have been sent off clearly has never played football before, things like that happen in a fast-paced game, it wasn't malicious, looks far worse in slow motion and a booking was exactly the right call, as well as Webb calming the game down very well I thought.

Was a pretty good game in the end despite there only being one goal. Ref didn't have the best of games and the spanish players were diving and calling for cards every second as usual but the dutch had their chances and missed them. Overall I think spain deserved it - doesn't mean I like them though. :p

Whatever is said or written about the Spanish style of play, becoming European and now world champions is a tremendous achievement.

That said, they must now be trembling at the prospect of facing the mighty Scotland in the Euro qualifiers. :p

Well this brings curtains to a uttlery crap, depressing football season ever. No cl for pool, England played crap and now spain are wc winners, i think im going to be sick.

Plus I have to say, for an 'awful' 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation that 'doesn't work at all' *cough DM* having won the Euros and then the World Cup, Spain must really be regretting not trying another formation... :p

If anyone remembers the Euros, Spain tried playing 4-4-2 with Torres and Villa up front and failed to score against Italy in the qs, then in the semis against Russia looked pretty ineffectual until Villa went off - they switched to 4-5-1 and subsequently scored 3, then in the final against Germany Villa's injury meant they played 4-5-1 and won that too.

That said, 4-5-1 for Spain is clearly awful  :p

How many teams at the world cup played with 2 defensive midfielders, it's so boring to watch when each team is so difficult to counter attack because they have 5 men behind the ball at all times.

De Jong's challenge was nothing short of assault, it was atrocious. I wonder what percentage of tackles by Van Bommel can be called legitimate attempts to win the ball.

Had a Spain to win the world cup and Villa to top score double on, why not chip it :(
