When SWP plays for England he looks like he truly wants the ball.

For me he's unrivalled in sheer determination and showed great pressure in the previous friendly. I think this is why Capello has taken him.

I enjoyed this comment. Don't worry about his complete lack of ability, the lad tries hard. Tell you what, pay me £60,000 a week (according to the Times) and I'll run really hard for 90 minutes too.

For England I would run my legs off for 90 mins for free :)

I'd be better than Carra and Dawson put together too ;)

The problem with Walcott is that he has no footballing brain, he makes the wrong decision about 95% of the time (reminds me a bit of Nani in his first season at United)
he just runs head down and sometimes he just seems shocked he's gone as far as he has up the pitch and ends up putting in a lame cross/shot (his trademark move)
if i was capello, i would change our formation if barry is not up to scratch...maybe play a 4-3-3 with rooney, lennon and cole as the front 3
also, why is Heskey in the team? Mclaren made the ridiculous choice of playing him after not being in favour for ages as some sort of hail mary play when the chips were down and that turned out well didn't it?
does Capello somehow think we believe Heskey to be some sort of talisman for us?
Rooney does well with him is because Heskey doesn't even attempt to score/dribble.....the epitome of what Heskey is was demonstrated in the game against Japan when SWP went on a jinking run and played a through ball to Heskey.....he wasn't even CLOSE to running onto it...

Going from Capello's CV, i trust every decision he's made with the team. He's obviously taken these players for a reason.

YOU may think you know better but you probably don't :p

Agreed. I don't understand every decision he makes but I trust his judgement.

Though I do wonder why we persist with 4-4-2 when the majority of Premiership teams no longer play it and we only have one international standard forward. If this was Football Manager, I'd be playing 4-5-1 with a midfield of Cole, Barry, Gerrard, Lampard and Lennon.

Squad:

Keepers and defence plus:

Gerrard (Liverpool, don't play 442), Lampard (Chelsea, don't play 442), Barry (City, don't play 442), Cole (Chelsea, don't play 442), Rooney (manyoo, don't play 442), Lennon (played as an out-and-out winger, wouldn't really matter what formation).

There's really no need to stick to a rigid formation like 4-4-2. It used to be that was all the players knew, but that certainly isn't the case now.

It's a lot more than most do lol!

Fabio has asked them for 'pressure pressure and pressure', SWP has done this. So what I meant is he has the ability to do exactly as he's told. Which once again is a lot more than most do. I just think that this is probably the thinking behind Capello's decision, he's taking someone which will give 110% every time he plays.

Thank you for your offer, you are most kind, there aren't enough people like you in the world!

Seriously one of the most unhappiest people alive right now. What makes things worse is a Welsh work mate has those days off and will be watching the games, not to support, oh no, but to abuse should we happen to lose! BARRR STEWWWAAARRRD!!

I am working too but I can still watch it online when my boss leaves the room or is looking the other way :D

baffles me that SWP is going but Johnson isnt. even playing on the right johnsons the better player , but to be fair i guess capello never watched any boro games from 3/4 years ago

Probably didnt impress enough in training. I am more baffled by the inclusion of Heskey. I think he thinks he is some kind of lucky donkey

Possibility of factors outside football that could stop him picking people too. Who knows how everybody feels about each other/gets on in the england camp.

They were saying on the radio yesterday that Walcott was genuinely shocked not to be picked for the squad, he thought to all intents and purposes he was going, not just going, but in the starting 11.
That might give some insight into why he isnt any good, he either thinks he is a damn sight better than he is and therefore does not listen, or he has no self awareness at all and just simply does not understand that what he is doing isnt good enough.

Our squad numbers released, cue more wild speculation about the starting XI!
1. David James
2. Glen Johnson
3. Ashley Cole
4. Steven Gerrard
5. Rio Ferdinand
6. John Terry
7. Aaron Lennon
8. Frank Lampard
9. Peter Crouch
10. Wayne Rooney
11. Joe Cole
12. Robert Green
13. Stephen Warnock
14. Gareth Barry
15. Matthew Upson
16. James Milner
17. Shaun Wright-Phillips
18. Jamie Carragher
19. Jermain Defoe
20. Ledley King
21. Emile Heskey
22. Michael Carrick
23. Joe Hart

The one thing you can draw from that is that James is likely to be the first choice keeper ahead of Green. I had hoped Joe Hart would get a look-in, but I suppose that was always gonna be wishful thinking :(

And all us Heskey haters can feel a bit relieved, this infers he won't start. Please god let it be so.

I think Joe Hart is a brilliant Goalkeeper, I can't really see how Green or James is better than him, unless he falls to pieces on a world stage (which he doesn't show any signs of doing)

No James has the number one because of seniority.
There is no way given his past performances in International tournaments that he is going to be in the starting 11.

Yeah, he could foreseeably be exactly in the position Foster is in now if he doesn't have a good season next year, but he's been terrific for Birmingham this year.
