Our squad numbers released, cue more wild speculation about the starting XI!
1. David James
2. Glen Johnson
3. Ashley Cole
5. Rio Ferdinand
6. John Terry
14. Gareth Barry/Carrick
4. Steven Gerrard
8. Frank Lampard
11. Joe Cole
21. Emile Heskey
10. Wayne Rooney

That would be my starting line-up for the USA match, basically a 4-4-2 with Barry (or Carrick) staying deep and Gerrard on the left, plenty of experience and everyone will know how to do their job, it's a no risker as we simply cannot afford to lose the first game.

Edit: I think Hart is great too, he's the only one out of the 3 who looks confident & in control at all times.

USA are very dangerous, I dont think it will be easy for England to win that game, they are going to have to really step up their performance from the Japan match as that was shocking.

Hopefully they do and remind us why they call it the beautiful game.

I agree with this, I think too many people are dismissing USA too easily. I think it will be a tougher game than we think and the likes of Dempsey and Donovan are more than capable of springing a surprise against us

i was already having a good chortle about that in the thread for their WC group :D

I wonder if it also means that someone who is a passable keeper as well as an outfield player - ie someone like Phil Jagielka would be barred from playing in goal in the course of the tournament if injuries enforced it... strange precedent to set, but amusing that N Korea got ****ed by it!

yup, god knows who that leaves to assume the role of captain if he can't play...

Terry???:p:D

Not a good start for England if Rios knee injury is serious...:/

I think England will beat the USA, it wont be easy though but the USA have lost their 5 last internationals against sides that have qualified for the WC so their form isnt at all great.

Ferdinand is a crock now, at first I thought we had signed Smalling because the rumours of Vidic leaving started gaining momentum, but all along he's been bought to replace Ferdinand who can't play 3 games in a row without doing something.

haha!
I'm not sure there are many overseas folks on this forum, but is it me or is our national team composed of a higher percentage of idiot scumbags than other nations?
