Just a bit of a story for everyone here... Woke up the other morning to find my monitor had been on all night on the login screen for my work laptop.
Normally it powers off but for some reason it decided it would just sit there. Boy did I panic, there's some pretty bright elements on the login screen like the date and time so I was sure there was going to be some really bad burn in after about 8 hours.
Thankfully there was little to no burn in... Where the date and time were displayed there was nothing, I could see nothing at all there. There were some blocky patterns around the top right and maybe some really faint visible patterns elsewhere. There was nothing you would be able to see on anything but a solid grey background though.
Either way I did a pixel refresh and then a panel refresh and there is nothing visible any more at all.
I think one of the contributing factors of it not being too bad is that my work profile is not set to HDR and I have it down at about 37% brightness. Very comfortable at that level especially with all the legacy non dark mode apps in use.
Question for you all though... There is definitely something up with my monitor... It never gives me the message to do a pixel refresh after 4 hours, I think it is a bug in the firmware that once you switch it off it never turns back on again, I tried toggling it off and on, powercycling the monitor but the message is just never shows.
It still does the pixel refresh when I switch it off or it goes into standby, I can see the green light flashing (after 4 hrs of use).
I've not looked through this thread extensively... Can we update firmware on the monitor? When I googled the only answers I got was Alienware support threads saying that it was not possible.
I am reluctant to bother with a replacement as they might send me a refurb that is worse, some people complain of fan noise etc...
Thanks for reading, have a deep black day!
