World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

I upgraded to the AW3423DWF, as I managed to get it for £584 with some discounts from Dell.

Previously, I was using the LG 34GP950G, which is considered one of the best IPS ultrawides. For a while, I was tempted to switch to a 32" 4K monitor to gain some additional height and pixels. I considered the AW32, but even with discounts, it was still over £800, which I couldn't justify. So, I ended up getting the LG 32GR93U, which reviews well and, with a student discount, cost only £430.

Once I received it, I set it up and found the 32" to be too tall. I don't know if it was because I was so used to an ultrawide, but it just seemed massive. I loaded up some games, and while they looked crisper, the difference wasn’t hugely noticeable. Additionally, everything felt squeezed in on the sides. Even after a few days, I couldn’t get used to it and found it annoying. I now know that 34" is my sweet spot.

As I had sold my 34GP950G to my brother, I needed a new monitor so I checked Dell's site and saw that the AW34 OLED was on offer so I ordered it.

This is my first OLED experience (I'm a Samsung Neo QLED man), and I must say, this thing is stunning. I fired up Cyberpunk 2077, set it to HDR Peak 1000, and the colors and brightness were incredible. The game felt more vibrant, and the input latency and pixel response time were amazing, making it incredibly smooth.

I also played other games like Destiny 2, Battlefield 2042, and Call of Duty, and now I’m never going back to any other panel type.

I work from home and spend a lot of time in Outlook and Teams. Many people criticize the sub-pixel layout and text clarity, but it doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve made some recommended changes like using a black background and hiding icons/taskbar to reduce burn-in risk, but with the 3-year warranty, I’m not too worried.

All I can say is, I’m so glad I chose the AW3423DWF. I plan to keep this for quite a while, at least until the next revision!

great to hear mate. Glad your enjoying your new monitor

Just received the AW3423DWF, super happy. I have plugged in a laptop though and I am not getting charging down the USB-C cable. Is this normal? I thought it had PD up to 65w.

I can't seem to enable to 10bpc at 144hz like some others have.

Am I missing something? I am creating a custom resolution in NVIDIA Control Panel.

What custom res are you creating?

But if you select the native res at 144hz, you should be able to select 10bpc option using Nvidia colour settings.

No driver is needed. 10-bit is enabled from the Nvidia control panel resolution tab. You should not have HDR enabled in Windows either, again, HDR should only be abled only when playing a HDR game or watching HDR content.

Do you mean RTX HDR? Yes although both Windows Auto HDR and RTX HDR are fake HDR. Nothing beats real HDR hence why it's always rceommended to only enable HDR mode (not AUto HDR) when playing a game with HDR support or watching a native HDR video.

Had to RMA back to Dell my 3423DW today. I still am suffering from it failing to recover from sleep, or locking up entirely when switching inputs between DP and HDMI. Have changed computers, graphics cards, cables all to no avail.

Dell Tech Support were terrible, making me change display drivers, clean boot, system restore :D etc etc but I diligently went through the process. I may have the same issues with my replacement but I figured whilst I still have my warranty why not?

Has anyone done this and then been ok with their replacement? Note my machine had the MOB106 firmware and I believe there is a MOB204 out there.

Failing to wake up from sleep was only an issue for me if the eco mode was enabled, with it off all was seemingly fine, this was the case on all 5 DWs btw across multiple revisions.

The locking up randomly was still a thing though, it's completely random, can happen once in 6 months, or twice in one month, just seems to be a DW thing which then requires pulling the power cord.

Thanks for the feedback. My sleep mode issue was with eco off . My locking up on switching inputs has become 4 - 5 times a day hence the RMA. Even had the plug on an Alexa socket so I could say "Alexa restart the Alien":D

Now you have had this a while, how are you finding it, particularly for WFH? My monitor went kaput today, some of the LEDs in the FALD now gone permanently dim on my ASUS PG27UQ.

AW3423DW in my case, got it asap after release (3 months of waiting) and still going strong. I work on it way more than I play games or consume media. I didn't even bother with hiding task bar, though I use dark mode in windows and apps (not in all of them, though). No burnout at all, no issues with fonts clarity when working, superb for gaming and gladly they also let one upgrade firmware these days after months of claiming that will never be possible because of gsync module. :p if this ever dies, I'll just get another (newer gen) of such monitor. Not going back to IPS, as low latency, no blur in movement and HDR in media consumption or gaming are just way too good to give up on them. :)

Now, it's not perfect, gsync module fan makes noise now and then and it's impossible to remove Alienware app that Windows installs automatically (short of blocking all updates). Standard blocking of KB or drivers installation do not do anything.
