Hi Guys, Sorry to jump straight into the thread with a question… I’m considering a new gen console and am unsure whether to go PS5 or Series X.

I‘ve got a One X currently and was wondering about the quality difference between that and a series X. I know loads times will be night and day but the I’m always impressed with the graphics of the one x (RDR2 and Forza horizon 5 to name a couple). Is the Series X a big jump in visual quality? It its a slight jump forward I’m tempted with a PS5 for the exclusives and keep the one X for Microsoft stuffs and Gamepass. I’ve watched a load of YouTube videos for comparisons but you can’t use those as a quality marker..

Would be interested to hear from people who’ve upgraded but also anyone decided not to upgrade because the one X is still pretty decent.

EDIT: I’ll be using it with an LG B7 OLED

Probably best to base your decision on what your friends have and what exclusives appeal, whether you like game pass etc. Graphically they're basically the same.
Appreciate the input Zatoichi. I don’t multiplayer and have no mates on either system. Ultimately I’m happy with Microsoft and love gamepass so a bump in spec, graphical quality and load times would be great but i just starting thinking really, is it a big jump in quality from the One X? If its not huge i could get the PS5 and have the “best” of ecosystems.

Basically i think the question is, if there’s a big jump from One X to Series X I’d just go that route no questions but if its not “that” big a leap (load times aside) I might be tempted by the PS5.

I've got a One X and Series X and the jump is noticable. Games made for the Series X look better, load faster and higher framerates and I would argue that the textures are higher too. Its just an all round faster console... but if you've got a decent spec PC (greater than 2070 and AMD/Intel 8 core) then your PC may be better off and the PS5 may be more suitable due to exclusive games whcih are not on the PC or via Gamepass.

I only bought mine as it was far cheaper than upgrading my Xeon 1231v3 and GTX 1070 to something equivalent at the time and even though I have access to an AMD 5600x with 6700XT computer now (my daughters new machine) I still use the Series X as its easier.

Yep, not gamed on Pc for a few years. I did consider it this time round but i end up chasing specs and thinking hardware and benchamrks more than playing games so console it is.
On a side note, take RDR2 for example (but other games too), i can play my one X disc on a series X but will it look any different on the Series X ?

RDR2 hasn't had any enhancements for Series X so apart from slightly faster loading that's it.

The games have to be enhanced for Series X/S to have a noticeable improvement. The only slight exceptions were games utilising dynamic resolution, and/or pushed for 60fps on the older systems i.e. they targeted 4K resolution on One X but most of the time it spent it around 1440p-1800p. On the Series X those games would probably hit the full 4K.

Generally no, unless it has been upgraded and has the S/X logo on the game icon. RDR2, for example, has a One X version for 4k gaming but generally it will be the same 30fps experience between consoles except that the Series X will hold it exactly at 30 where as the One X could struggle in places potentially. Witcher 3 is an example of an older 30fps game on the One series that is much better on the Series X now (better graphics and higher framerate) and you can tell but most old games won't be touched... although there are quite a few games that will work iwth the auto FPS and HDR functions of the new consoles.

Is there a game in particular you want to play on xbox series x that you can't on the xbox one?

I ask as, unless you're currently unable to play 3/4 games that are series x/s only, who cares about graphics. The Ps5 will unlock tones of new games for you that are exclusive, where as the series x will make a couple games look nicer.

Easy decision imo.

Design lab controller has arrived! Looks great, and feels lovely. Very happy with it :D

I'm lucky enough to own both systems, if I was in your position I would get a ps5 and the extra tier of ps plus - it would give you instant access to many exclusives.

Once your wallet has recovered you could always take advantage of a trade in deal at a games store to offset the cost of a series x.

My 2Tb External SSD arrived a few days ago from ebay so I sorted that out a few days ago. It genuinely took around 3 minutes to transfer a 70Gb game from Internal SSD to External SSD <3 I had no idea how long to expect it to take, but I didn't expect it to be that quick!

As a result my internal SSD now has over half of it's original space remaining :D

Hi Guys,

Just to update my journey for everyone that gave input, very much appreciated. IT did make sense to get the PS5 in the end, the One X is still a very accomplished console which made the Series X that much harder to pull the trigger on. Now i get to play the sony exclusives and essentially get the best of both ecosystems.
