My son's one X stopped working the other day. Done all the tests I can and it is not ouputting a display or sound to the TV (but the TV is detecting a signal from it). To replace it with a new one X will mean second hand or a refurb, so am a bit wary about that. The series X is quite expensive for a non-birthday purchase. I was looking at the series S as a compormise. What are peoples thoughts; is that worth doing or just go for refurb one X. He is only 12 so graphics aren't he be all and end all for him.
Series S is brilliant with a game pass subscription, but if your son has a lot of disk based games he won't be able to use them as it does not have a disk drive.

I liked mine a lot before I upgraded to a Series X

Sounds like the HDMI encoder chip has failed. It can be fixed easy enough for a decent repair shop. Otherwise if you don’t need a disk drive the Series S is a good choice with decent deals about.

If you are looking for repair these are pretty good.

Brilliant thanks for all the advice. I tried changing cables and TV and nothing. I think I am going to go for an S. The price of them seems fair and the SSD should help when it comes to moaning about minecraft loading. He doesn't have any disc based games; they are all digital so that won't be an issue.

What TV do you all use with your Series X? I'm considering the LG C2 48" TV, but I was looking for some advice.

Ideally, I want a 4k 120hz, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos TV with 4 2.1 HDMI ports.

What would you recommend?

I use a Panasonic 65" LZ2000. It doesn't have 4 x HDMI 2.1, but very few panels do, even very modern ones like the Sony A95K. If that's essential for you then you're looking at LG C2 or G2. Only other option for 4 x HDMI is the Samsung S95B QD-OLED. I haven't seen any of the specs for the new panels coming later this year. Do you really need 4 HDMI 2.1 ports ?

I'm trying to decide between OLED, same 48 as you or the Samsung QLEDs because the room is bright. There are quite a few YouTube vids that compare the two and it seems the QLEDs have a few advantages of OLED

Im buying next month so need to decide!

But yeah I think you're limited to LG with your port requirements

I switched from a 55" Sony XH90 i had since the Series X came out, to a LG C2 42" just after black friday last year (it dropped to £700 for black friday), it was like i had another next gen upgrade.

The same resolution on the smaller screen makes everything look better, before the OLED upgrade.

Get an OLED!

EDIT: XH90 or XH9005, not AH90..

Thank you all. I'll do some research on prices and reviews.

I've got a 42" LG C2 and it's fantastic. The picture quality is just superb on it.
How do you find the dimming when gaming (ABL) have you disabled it via service remote or do you not find it an issue?

What about brightness are you in a bright room and does it get bright enough or are reflections a problem?

Sorry to jump in with random questions but I'm still on the fence with what TV to buy

I've no idea what ABL is
My room is fairly bright and I've had no issues with reflections but I guess it depends on where your TV is placed.

Zoinks! I don't know what Microsoft have done with their cloud streaming but decided to have a quick session of Star Wars Jedi whatever it is before the new one comes out. Playing via Xbox Series S on my folks' big 75" screen and it was absolutely flawless. Slight judder now and again with the frame rate it seemed but the graphical quality, well I could have been fooled it was playing on an actual Series X console!

Hey all. I've just received a brand new LG C2, and am having settings problems with my Series X.

Initially, it was stuck at 480p, which was not ideal. I eventually realised that that was because I had night mode on. Switching that off has given me 4k 120hz in the menus.

However, in game, I'm only getting 4k 60hz, even in games like Ori which specifically offer a 120hz setting. This doesn't vary by game - everything seems like it's locked to 60hz.

Does anyone have any idea what settings I need to change to get this sorted? Thanks

Have you got your TV set to game mode and enabled VRR and 120hz?
