Reading up on the game this afternoon
It looks like the 30fps limit was deliberate. They had the game occasionally hitting 4k 60fps but they wanted consistency. So decided to lock to 4k 30 to ensure that happens. 1440p 30 for series S.

I think I'll likely get it on PC to make sure I get the highest fps I can. Got a 7900XT, Ryzen 7 7700 PC about to get built.

I had hoped devs would target frames instead of bells and whistles, but sex sells. Doesn’t matter if it runs like a dog as long as it’s pretty.

Shame really. I’m sure I’m not alone in having raised this exact issue in the lead up to the current gen of consoles being released. I suspected devs would go for pretty 30fps rather than optimised slightly less pretty 60fps. Seems that’s two titles from Bethesda now that will be intentionally locked to 30fps. Does make me wonder why. Perhaps this is their rebellion for being bought out?

I hoped we’d at least have a higher frame rate option :(

Who knows, they may add the option in eventually.

Probably when you buy their next console.

I also was reading that they originally planned an earlier release before the takeover but it gave them longer to test so it shouldn't have many bugs. They actually said it's less buggy than a Bethesda title. Lol.

As for fps the fact that it could get up to 60 depending on what was happening in game could possibly mean that in future they could update the game to give a less pretty 60fps mode.

I thought it was a really good showcase, Starfield looks amazing, 30fps wont bother me as long as it's stable.

Forza I hope we get some more info on, want to see what the career mode looks like; I'm sure there was an event announced to be diving into the career mode.

I've bought the Starfield limited edition controller, I'm a sucker I know but I had rewards points to use up. Allegedly coming today.

I just think a lot of Xbox players are just so desparate for a decent exclusive that they will buy Starfield just because, but last i looked Sci-Fi RPG is a pretty niche genre and i think a lot of people will get bored quick, or am i wrong? Also the character models looked so bad, like no emotions and plastic skin.
If its going straight to Gamepass, then surely most people wont be needing to buy it?
I dont think the genre will be a problem at all, the biggest problem with this sort of game traditionally is that the games have been poor, rather than a lack of interest. Slap 'Star Wars' on the title and people will put up with mediocre releases. They'll moan it should be better, but they still buy etc because theres a lack of competition.

For a game that might as well be called No Mans Skyrim, there should be pretty broad appeal from people who liked Skyrim and dont mind something similar in a different setting, and sci-fi fans get something akin to NMS on a AAA studios budget (despite its initial mess, seems to be very popular now the developers have turned things around).
The character models did look uninspiring though, a generation out of date. I'd like to think theres still time for that to improve, but i'd say its unlikely. Thankfully its not that big of a deal, but its a little odd given that its a very nice looking game otherwise.

The Microsoft show is whats convinced me to do my next upgrade, all the other shows had absolutely nothing of interest to me, but the MS one had 3-5 games im really looking forward to and i think all of them were Gamepass/GP PC titles, so wont even need to spend a penny to play them.
I've had the desire & funds to build a high end system (4090, X3D etc) but an absolute disinterest in any games being released for quite a long time now.

The main titles im looking forward are Starfield and Cities Skyline 2 on PC, both of them are included in Gamepass PC, so no need to buy them (im assuming everyone here has GP). I think theres a very good chance i'll ultimately end up buying CS:2 because of Steam Workshop, but i certainly feel no need to pre-order it when GP means i already get access to it upon release, and theres no pressure to buy it unless it leaves Gamepass, by which point it'll have gone through various sales too. Not needing to pre-order is nice, cos its something i hate but would have certainly fallen to.

I just think that they needed an exclusive from a genre with wider appeal like an action game with a strong narrative, like their own version of TLoU or Uncharted. If the developers of the Yakuza series that pull-off the character models they do with what seems like a much smaller budget Bethesda really has no excuse.

Can anyone recommend a controller for the Series X? I can't stand the fact it's so light but worst of all is the clicky d-pad and shoulder buttons. Whoever thought that infernal clicking wouldn't get annoying is a monster.

Ive got an elite and ive had it for a couple of years but they are pricey and reliability is sketchy. But mines been great.

I can’t say I’ve really noticed. Usually have headphones on. I wouldn’t say obnoxiously noisy.
I did think the Elite 2 would be a good option but the price put me off.

I found one used like new one from Amazon warehouse for £79 so have ordered that and will see how it is.

Been quite lucky with Amazon warehouse in the past and had brand new sealed stuff a number of times. And I know I can easily return with Amazon if not for me.

Elite 2 arrived, it was still sealed so couldn't ask for better in that respect. The packaging is very nice, love the case and included accessories.

It's definitely an improvement over the standard Xbox controller but still not as good as the standard dual sense.

The rubber wraparound grip feels nice but does make my hand hot and sweaty after only a short session, not something I've had on any other pad.

The d-pad is still clicky but not quite as bad, the face buttons feel better but had a number of presses which didn't register and required a second press.

The alternative sticks with the smoother top are also an improvement and much more comfortable.

The vibration however is rubbish, the regular series X pad was naff but with this I can hear a high pitched whine when bombing along in Horizon...
