Downloaded Diablo 4 at 890mbps last night.

My download speeds are always in excess of 500mbps.

I suggest it's not the xbox
My mates mic ends up crackling and he sometimes lags, he instantly blames live service or the game servers or me lol but tbh he is using a powerline adapter which i suspect is giving him packet loss. He won't believe it so i stopped mentioning it.

Best option as always is to wire up rather than using wireless/powerline.

I've never had anywhere near 1Gbps download on my Xbox. I'm hard wired into the router.

On a speed test on said Xbox, it shows a speed of 890+.

The hub 5 on Virgin made a big difference for me. I get far more consistently higher download speeds across most devices. With the Hub 4 I was lucky to get anything over 500mbps on Xbox.

I have a similar issue albeit not as slow as BuffetSlayer - happened with my One X and on my Series X. One X would be lucky to hit 300Mbps and my Series X hovers around the 300Mbps mark. Happened with the One X when I was living with parents and the Series X in the current house with my partner so two houses, two consoles, and two different networks all with a similar issue.

Not the end of the world as I rarely ever use the SX and my PS5 hits around 900Mbps, and I mostly game on that. If I ever do choose to play anything on the SX, I normally just set it to download over night.

Not sure why tbh. Is your NAT open ? Not even sure that would make a difference to download speed. Maybe its different areas of the country are better than others ?

Yep, open.

I think the max I've seen is 600 Mb, but mostly 300-400.

If I do a speed test on the Xbox, it shows speeds of 890+ so not sure if it's just the games which I play and the way they're packaged?

Fantastic news on the expansion cards. I was able to get a 2nd hand Seagate 1TB expansion at a reasonable price, but never liked how pricey and monopolistic they were.
