Hey guys, will there be any good deals on Xbox Series S/X for Black Friday month? Eldest wants one for Christmas, are the new models worth the premium compared to the old ones. He's only 9 so it isn't gonna be full scale gaming for a few years yet. Better to get a cheaper older model?

Nobody can say, keep an eye out around Black Friday. That's the best shot for any deals. Personally I wouldn't recommend an Xbox as the future is very uncertain with Microsoft's shift toward being a multiplatform publisher. Yes, you can get a Game Pass subscription which will offer hundreds of games but Playstation offers a similar, and in my opinion, better library with PS Extra.

Having now owned a PC, XSX and PS5 and initially being a huge fan of the XSX and Gamepass, I would now say the PSplus offering is far better than Gamepass and the future looks stronger for PS too. I’ll be sticking with a PC/PS combo. Microsoft seems to be ditching exclusives and everything else is either available on PC or PS, at which point I’ll choose mouse friendly games for PC and sofa games and earlier access to exclusives on PS.

Kinda disappointed I went full hog with Xbox this gen as above everything is on pc or ps now.

They also gave up adding fps boost to games. Nothing of any substance has been added to Gamepass since their Activision acquisition and I’ve given up waiting for anything to be added now. Plus their exclusives seem to be time limited and those I do want to play I’ll grab on PC. It’s all a bit of a mess.

Plus, when PS games release they come with multiple modes like 60fps, 40fps VRR etc. MS games release at 30fps and manage to look worse. All in all I haven’t touched my XSX in a while.

I’ve barely used my series X compared to my PS5. Just lately, when I have used it, I'm getting problems. Black screen issues mainly and hanging on shut down, needing a 10 second power press

Not sure if it’s just software issues or what, but I’ve never had issues like this previously. Read it may be relating to different screen modes as you switch from games to system menus etc. Not sure, but it’s a pain in the hoop!

Just hoping for a late gen surge in game content as otherwise there hasn’t been much point in owning an Xbox this gen (for me anyway).

Each to their own but their "time limited" exclusives hit day 1 on Gamepass which PS+ doesn't offer.

Also for big games this month you've got Black Ops 6, next month its Stalker 2 and then we've got Indiana Jones in December. Not a bad set of releases coming up. Obviously if the previous offerings haven't been any good for you then Gamepass definitely doesn't have value.

I'm disappointed that more of the Activision back catalogue hasn't been added, don't know why it's taking so long to add the titles to the service.

New leak came out, looks like avowed, halo, gears e day and perfect dark are all in development for ps5 and ps5 pro as well. Good for Xbox as a Game studio, not good for Xbox as a console, Xbox consoles are cooked

It's been just over a year since I spent a whole bunch of MS rewards points to redeem the maximum (in 365 days) to MS gift cards. Got myself the Series X with some additional topup. Now that I can redeem again I was hoping to get the 1tb expansion card but looks like MS don't have stock of it on their xbox accessories site :(

It really looks like their future plans are to just be a publisher that puts their games on as many platforms as possible.

I think this gen will have done massive damage to the next generation of consoles. I normally buy all of them but I think I’ll be skipping Microsoft’s next console unless it’s really special.

Truth is the money was never made in the consoles, always the accessories and games but most people aren't buying multiple controllers or accessories so next step is to take over the game sales.

It probably is the downfall of xbox as a hardware console but i would guess they continue on as a gaming platform everywhere ie set top box, mobile, web browser. All streaming. But i personally am not a fan.

I kinda regret getting the Xbox Series X now. I've owned every Xbox that has come out so getting the Series X was a no brainer but I'm looking at some of the games on PS and I really want to try them and with the PS5 Pro coming out next week I'm seriously thinking of getting it as I can get it on interest free pay later.

For me it feels more like the industry failing to innovate rather than specific failures with consoles. I've definitely had good value for my Series X but yes the lack of new experiences and AAA games has been disappointing.

I have to admit that the PC still has more games I love on it as I'm a big strategy fan and that is one genre that doesn't really work well on consoles.

The whole gaming market seems dead, I'm playing 5-10 year old games as I can't find a new one I actually want to play!

I enjoy the Sony games, but there aren’t many great games anymore. It’s just become too expensive to develop them and a risk with anything new. It doesn’t help that it drives clicks for social media and the gaming community to hate on any game that doesn’t have every cutting edge feature.
