I'll repeat a little of what I've said earlier both here and elsewhere, and embellish it with a few new thoughts.
The proposed price of the S model has (pleasantly) surprised me. I don't care what it looks like - I genuinely could not give two short stuffs. The last physical disk game I bought was Dirt 4, so how long ago was that? I really don't mind moving away from the physical disk model at all. We don't have a 4k TV and currently have zero plans to obtain one.
All in all, if the Series S will play all "Net Gen" Xbox games and make them look good on our (55 inch????) HD TV, meaning that I will be able to play Fable, whatever the next Elder Scrolls turns out to be, the next Fallout, any other western RPGs that either come out cross-platform or MS exclusive, then I will be VERY happy to go from my (standard) PS4 to the Xbox Series S.
If the S is analysed in its first few months of use and suspected to be short-lived and not something that will give me years of those gaming experiences I wish for, then I'll probably choose the X instead. I'm very interested now to see what the price of that will be.
