Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

Just installed my board with a 2700K and 16GB Corsair Vengeance.....

Fired up first time, went into bios enabled 4.6ghz overclock profile, ram XMP and booted straight into windows. (Didn't bother re-installing windows.)

Installed drivers, and then ran 20 rounds of Intelburntest before going back to work. CPU was getting 1.31v under load according to CPU-Z. Max core temp of 58C under a Phantek cooler.

It can't be this easy can it?

I hope so as I am building this for a friend (yet another build - I'm too nice!) and I am looking for a nice simple click and go overclock as I'm very busy at the moment. I personally had two previous good experiences with the basic Gelid CPU cooler (the £25 one) and so went for the "high performance gx7" version as this build is required to be overclocked as high as poss but biast towards silence. I was going to go for the two fan thermal right Venemous one but the fans only spin at 600rpm and I don't think would shift enough air. A lot of the other ones I looked at were out of stock so I went with the Gelid.

I would be happy with 4.5ghz on the 2700k I am using. Can you talk me through EXACTLY what you actually did/changed to get it up and running? Just so I can speed up my clocking tonight. Would well appreciate that. :)

Enter Bios,

Set SATA to AHCI in storage configuration

Go to OC tweaker.

Set DRAM to XMP Profile 1

Click auto overclocking and select Optimised 4.6ghz profile.

Save and exit.

Thats it.

Depending on the RAM the XMP Profile may set the DRAM voltage to ~1.65V.

Most RAM can run at less than this and ideally it wants to be set at ~1.5V.

Guys links are back up for 1.10d bios at Xtremesystems.

UEFI a lot smoother and feels very solid, this board has not skipped a beat for me yet, very impressed.

I've got one of these boards with a 2500k CPU and stock cooler (until the SA on back order eventually comes in..)..

What do you think would be a safe oc til i get better cooling ??

There are other places that have that cooler in stock on the net. Just have a look around some of the bigger players.

Its like Gibbo always says, "Its easy to sell for a lower price when you have no stock."

I've just installed a Silver Arrow cooler on this board and according to the Asrock extreme tuner software the two PWM fans are running at full tilt (1300rpm) all the time. Do i need to alter a bios setting or something to activate PWM?

Thanks

I'm not sure the fans support that.
