The 'White Pele' - you're having a laugh!! When will english fans/press ever open their eyes?? Just goes to show we dont know anything about football tbh. Proof that he is overrated, overpaid, and should never spoken of in the same league as such greats. He's nowhere near the likes of lineker for christs sake!! anyway enough of the ranting....

England are just rubbish - predictable and no invention whatsoever, simple as. Joe cole should have been on from the start of the 2nd half. If there was an argument for Adam Johnson to be in the squad then this game was it- we needed a player with that extra something, unpredictability and somebody nobody knows much about. A BIG mistake from Capello IMO.

And stupid itv commentary - just a complete bunch of tools - Algeria were the better team - better on the ball, better passing and movement, but its not acknowlegded in the slightest - just makes me sick to see how blind the media are. Yes England were crap but Algeria were better throughout the park - and how good is Belhadj!!

Agree largely with that, the problem is and always will be that we spend far, far too much time twatting about forcing kids to play competitive games all the bloody time, we don't allow kids to develop the technique required to be as good as they can/should be.

If you watch La Ligua and look at the poor teams in the league, 90% of their players have more technical ability than anything in the england team bar probably Joe Cole.

Premiership managers have to take a huge slice of the blame for this as they don't encourage young players to develop their technique rather than their fitness, if Rooney had gone to Real Madrid or Barcelona instead of man U i can guarente he would be world class by now, rather than even being mentioned in the same breath as Ronaldo, Messi, or schweinsteiger is frankly laughable, his techique is nothing compared to those three, in terms of technical ability Higuain makes Rooney look like a decent player and no more and the best make him look average at best. Wenger is the only hope we have of developing a truly world class english player, Aaron Ramsay is already more technically gifted than most of the england midfield combined, sadly he's welsh.

It's no coincidence that everywhere except in England are we regarded as anything more than outside bets to do anything at best.

If you ask me, Lennon is playing it safe, constantly cutting in and playing a short pass into the likes of Lampard and Gerrard rather than trying to beat his man like he would do in the league, which seems to be the problem with most of the squad.

It's not just a case of taking the easy option. For some reason he was looking to run inside rather than go down the wing.

I think the main problem i see with capello is he has won plenty at club level with foriegn teams, where the style of play is completely different to english football, i agree we definately need an english (or british ;)) manager to get the best out of our team, or at least a foriegn manager that has managed a couple of premiership/championship teams. (that said, a combination of foriegn and english teams on there CV would probably prove useful for countering the foriegn teams tactics)

Woy Hodgson?

Lol @ drop Rooney. Serious /facepalm to anyone that makes that comment. He didn't have a good game at all today though, wasn't able to hold any ball.

All of the players need to find their focus soon.

Rooney needs to be dropped for rooneys sake, he's playing like he knows the shirt is his, like he doesn't have to play well in order to play every game, he needs to be taken off then brung on as a sub, to make him feel like he isn't untouchable. It's like the whole "fight for a place" mentality doesn't apply to him

I wouldn't drop Rooney, yes he had a bad game! mainly because he has to drop so deep to get the ball, then he's trying to do too much with it... get the ball to him in the box and he will score.. look at his record for united...

and no I am not manu fan, Everton ;-)

I have to agree with that - the technical ability of La Liga down the the the bottom team absolutely trounces the premiership. It might not be the most entertaining to watch but the ability on the ball far outweighs the collective ability of the premiership!

Chile were fabulous the other day - by far the best on the ball and very effective in attack - definitely ones to watch :)

I think so...but at the moment USA are beating us in that...they have scored 3 goals compared to the lowly 1 goal we have scored...although we have only conceded the one goal and they have conceded 3.

So i imagine for England to top the group if we win and USA win...we would need to put 4-5 goals past the Slovenians and hope that the Americans dont score.

I find it funny people saying drop Rooney...ok drop him but whos going to get your goals??...sure he had a bad game but he was hardly getting anything decent served to him...Lamps and Gerrard werent effective simple as that...without them feeding Rooney...hes not going to set the WC on fire is he??

Plus i saw a fair few times that Rooney was playing far too deep just to get the ball :/

I'm surprised so many people are so against Rooney  They played bad. In fact - awful. But the effort was there. You can't tell me they don't want this cup. So be disappointed, be angry but to actually start booing..that's not going to help and I think is a little uncalled for. The players knew it was terrible without that. It perhaps wasn't very professional but everyone's calling for players to show commitment and to care and when his passion shows you call for his head.

As for his performance, he was poor yes but no worst than anyone else and at least he wasn't anonymous like certain players.

For me the real person to blame is the manager. I've always felt he talked a good talk but ultimately was full of hot air, that he didn't stay true to his promises and made the same mistakes as the past 3 managers.
For us to go into a world cup without a settled and established team/formation is nothing short of incompetence on his part.

Regardless, what's most striking is how teams like Algeria can be technically better than us. If anyone deserves a good Boo its whoever is wasting all the money on coaching and development of youngsters.

Trouble is he's not had a decent game for England in a while, he certainly hasn't looked like scoring in the last two games and we can't keep picking him based on his Man UTD form.

Crouch and Defoe could cause teams more problems given the chance, they certainly couldn't do much worse than the Heskey/Rooney pairing.
