January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

So who was the Spurs fan convinced we were all nuts believing Spurs ridiculous bids and theres been no confirmation.

Redknapp has confirmed they bid for Aguero 38.5mil, Rossi 35mil(both club records), Forlan 13mil, the stories about are that Liverpool offered 10-12mil and got rejected, and Redknapp says with minutes to go they offered 6-6.5mil for Adams and only two chairmen didn't manage to sign in time, while earlier reports were simply that Spurs bid higher than liverpool and were also rejected. Those are all confirmed, though the Adam's bid amount is in question.

Theres also reports suggesting they tried to bid for a few other strikers aswell. So right from the horses mouth Redknapp confirms the quite ridiculous nature of their bidding and the fact they failed with every bid, and the fact it makes them look rather desparate and daft, also for most people confirms the fact that Redknapp doesn't care for the financial stability of the club, is utterly insane and addicted to signing new players.

Ooh, got a source for that?

And considering what's he's said about not playing for another side in England, I wouldn't rule out him moving to Real 1 day either.

Possibly his target all along

He wouldnt want to go there now though (both from Ronaldo's form, and being ex-AM, RM fans would absolutely murder him to start with)

Leave it a few more years, Ronny will lose form or just want to go somewhere else, and FT steps in and fans will love him

Just talking on Revista De La Liga about how Atletico Madrid are in complete meltdown, Deigo Forlan even wanted out of the club.

I thought they had been financially up the creek for a long time anyway......(and this was well known)

They were referring more to poor management causing lack of motivation on the pitch, and relations with the board. No doubt a product of the poor financial health, but it seems to be a spreading cancer.

Doesn't sound like anywhere you should have a problem prising Forlan away from anyway :p

Spot the odd one out

1 - Cristiano Ronaldo - £80m
2 - Zlatan Ibrahimović - £56.5m
3 - Kaká £56m
4 - Fernando Torres £50m
5 - Zinedine Zidane £45m
6 - Luís Figo £37m
7 - Hernán Crespo £35.5m
8 - Andy Carroll £35m
9 - David Villa £34.2m
10 - Gianluigi Buffon £32.6m

Ibrahamovic - the rest are good players. I notice there is a minus sign in front of his price, which considering Eto'o went the other way, should actually have been the case.

Well Carroll could go on to score 10 goals this season, Kaka is absolutely the biggest flop there, by a freaking mile. Zlatan might be worse though 56mil, loaned out a season later after scoring 21 goals in 41 appearances, and supposedly Milan have the option to buy him for 24million EUROs, what £21mil or so, 35million, as much as Carroll, for a single season?

For the Redknapp quotes, though he seems to be pushy Levy as the instigator of the deals which, considering Levy's seemingly excellent decision making in the past(mostly) in terms of value and business sense, I find that a little harder to believe.

Financially stable, smart and reliable Levy, or Redknapp for the I'm guessing over 100million in bids lodged in the final couple days. That inclues 10mil for Adams who I think they bid more than that, 10mil for Parker which was, forgot the 3mil for Pienaar and supposedly huge signing on fee, and there were supposedly a few other bids for La Liga strikers.

Yes I know he wasn't trying to get them all so would never have cost that much, still ruddy funny to think about all the offers they made.

kaka has had a bad season and some injuries, but have you seen his list of personal awards? to say he is a flop is just nonsense

Well, if you think about it for a while, it's not that funny at all. Our competition as a team aiming for top 4 really consists of:

Liverpool
City
Arsenal

And to a lesser extent:
Man U
Chelsea

They all either have fantastic front lines, or have strengthened their squad a lot this January, with the regular exception of Arsenal. Panic buying is perhaps the most accurate description of our, frankly, amateurish scurrying about in Spain trying to sign Ed, Edd, and Eddie. But, it's clear that none of our current strikers are on form which is proving to be a problem. We can't rely on our midfield to score in every game. A striker needed to be brought in IMO, and I can atleast take heart in the fact that Levy/Joe Lewis has seen this and invested appropriately and generously in order to attempt to bring the quality of our attack up to a level similar to that of our competition.

The point is that Kaka's fee wouldn't have been ludicrous at the time because of his record. Carroll is getting similar money and he's a comparative nobody.

Given how poorly Kaka's done since his transfer Carroll may well turn out to be better business in the next few years though.

Sonny, when determining how successful a signing he is, what he won before the transfer isn't relevant.

world cup top assister is after the signing and so is his confederations cup, etc. granted its all for his country though and not the club which signed him, which means something is wrong at real madrid, theres nothing wrong with him.

so yes hes had a bad year at real madrid, but so have a lot of players, he's also been injured.

he isnt a flop, he just hasnt settled in, if they had taken a punt on an uknown and he had a season like kaka's then you could consider that a flop. kaka is one of the best players in the world, i just dont think he suits the style of play in spain.

im just saying he certainly aint the odd one out on that list.

crespo and caroll definetely are though.

Carrolls fee boils down to 4 main factors, inflated prices which occur in january, attempting to sign someone 12 hours before the window closes, him being English and the sellers market knowing there is a 50m cheque in the buyers hand. Most Liverpool fans , and most football fans , will agree that the price was high. Most Liverpool fans will agree its better than not getting anyone in which was possible and most football fans will understand the reasons the price was high. Anyone else is simply trying to get a rise out of people (and succeeding usually)

why couldn't they wait until the summer?

in the summer that 35m plus an extra 10m or so would have gotten them a world class midfielder and a world class striker, not a unproven striker with a very good season.

he may prove himself to be worth it, but its a huge punt that im guessing nobody else would have taken, not even man city.

I see what you're saying, but it doesn't really explain 'Arrys approach to the transfer window. Surely he didn't think the Van Der Vaart poach approach was going to work for everybody?

Where you say about Levy investing appropriately and generously to bring the quality of your attack up, do you mean they already have, or they should have done this window?

Not having a replacement number 9 would have been potentially disastrous for the second half of the season, selling Torres and not replacing would quite likely not only done damage on the pitch but off the pitch also. Whilst I , like many people , think the fee was high, I also think Carroll is a very good player, a feeling seemingly shared by many premier league managers. What he may achieve over the coming years we cannot say but I'm happy to have him in the team.
