transfer fee upfront - as Bruce doesnt expect him back - perhaps? (which is reasonable for that kind of player)

Just hope Sunderland can survive until Jan (from a goals point of view)

Nah, that will be a loan fee only, although it might lower the overall transfer fee when it seemingly will be going through.

I also looked around and had either forgotten or missed there was a story in June that someone involved with Gyan/Sunderland(probably his agent) sent an e-mail to dozens of clubs including other prem league clubs offering Gyans services, basically trying to generate a move. Its all pretty odd.

Anyway I'm getting, maybe a touch worried about the Mertesacker move, he apparently got dropped for Germany in March and has been completely trashed over his performance in the Poland game, he made some pretty dodgey mistakes aswell as some good good interceptions in the Swansea game. People are suggesting he's been overlooked repeatedly due to how poorly he often does against faster players and frankly, a pretty poor Swansea striker gave him trouble in terms of pace.

A lot of Brazillians and people who talk about Santos are saying the guy can't defend to save his life aswell. I wondered how they'd do and it just seems anyone who has seen them play regularly isn't a big fan at all.

Also Wenger today going on about how the 1-0 will make a huge difference in confidence, while also saying the Udinese games were partly to blame for our performances against liverpool and Utd...........

SO a win + confidence will make a huge difference, but winning each game against Udinese hurt us, he's pretty much talking gibberish before each game now, making excuses over previous games and talking up how fantastic the squad is.

Also being reported that Gomes wants to leave in Jan and Redknapp doesn't seem to care and will let him go. How many years does Freidal have left in him, 40 yrs old, Cudicini is 38yrs old and has had a huge injury with the bike crash not long ago, Gomes is 30. have they got some up and coming 20yr old striker non Spurs fans don't know about?

Would a "And back on topic" post not of been more suitable perhaps?

There are still plenty of loan moves happening in the Lower Leagues.

What part of 'I forgot about loans' did you not understand?

Noob :D

Suck it up and get on with talking about transfers.

You say that like it's a bad thing

Please tell me you are joking. In no way could Batty have done for United what Keane did apart from the trying to rip people limb from limb bit.

Any, on the transfers front I've been very happy with Manchester United's summer signings so farthis season. For Jones and Young especially the business was very very good. De Gea will be too but he's not excelled like the other two yet. Though I still think he is better than everyone has been making out.

Getting forgetful in your old age Gilly?

We signed two strikers this window, one who's barely been injured all his career gets injured in his first game and t'other could not recover from his injury (his heel is apparently shattered) so we're left exactly how we started the summer in regards to strikers, although we do have a kid on loan, he's been used more out wide them up front.

No, was just gutted about how badly the transfer window went for Leeds and wanted to get over the whole sorry mess!

Batty did for United what no-one else could at the time. Keane barely got a game.

And if there wasn't clubs like City willing to play the greedy beggars this maount wages would be a lot more sensible.

I really cannot wait until the sky falls in on the football and they have to be (reasonably) economic. I will heartily laugh at all the greedy players the day it does.

/rantoff :p

Why is it greedy players fault?

If you're good at something never do it for free.

Wasnt Milner £26m? Certainly north of £20m
Wasn't it £16m + Stephen Ireland. IIRC, Ireland was valued at the time at ~£8m which has proven to be a complete rip-off.
No.

He was 16m + Ireland who they rated at 8m so the papers immediat ely called it at 24m.

Ermmm, £16m + a player valued at £8m makes the total value of the Milner deal £24m :/

edit: to say Milner cost £24m is far more accurate than to say he cost £16m as you did.

Gyan on his way. Sunderland could be in trouble this season.

What a ridiculous move for him :/

Looks like Fulham will be back in got Gignac in January after Marseille pulled the plug at 11pm on deadline day - be a good signing, that!

As a Toon fan I'm chuffed, absolutle madness by Sunderland. What is Bruce doing to them? Spending a lot of money in the process...

I like how Steve Bruce mentioned loyalty when talking about him, Bruce is the last person to comment on motivations to leave a club and loyalty. Laughable.

Also, Sunderland have received 6 million for the loan deal and Gyan "apparently" has tripled his wages.

I don't see the problem or why it's a ridiculous move, footballers follow the money. The money for a long time has been good in English football, foreign players didn't start coming to England for footballing reasons, it's because England played higher wages, but now places like Russia and the middle east can offer very high wages.

Wow you even hunt down and try and find negative things to say about players you aren't too aware of. That is a new time low for you lol

How about give them a chance and see how they do. Good God you are a cheery person.

No one is hailing Arsenal as Premiership challengers or CL hopefuls but one scrappy and some what lucky win over Swansea is a good thing. Doesn't mean everything is rosey again at Arsenal but it is a positive.

We may have only won one nil but we still get the same amount of pts as Utd got for winning eight two. Are we better off compared with last seasons team? No. But we are certainly in a a better position than when we played Utd.

Maybe if we picked up Hazard or Cahill in January we would be going in the right direction but at least we now have a better chance of picking up the points.

Except, I just read a couple stories on Mertesacker, I was hardly hunting down information, then you have a go at me for not knowing too much about them....... while having a go at me for trying to find out more about them, please do make your mind up. I'm so sorry that the information I found when half heartedly reading stories in papers I check every day weren't positive. Please write to the papers and complain that Mertesacker was poor for Germany and widely slated, and they had the cheek to put it in their paper and I was rude enough to read it. Ask them to print only positive stories so I don't get in trouble for you for reading something negative.

I haven't seen Santos play lately, I've not seen him play very often, nor very well for Brazil when I have seen him play, I've only seen him once for Fenebahce...... so how could I possible find out how good he is........... oh, well the general consensus from people who have watched him a lot is, not promising, which is what I said. I also said its a bit early, and I haven't formed an opinion on a guy I haven't seen play properly, just said the signs weren't good because........ the signs aren't good. Again should I make up a positive story and pretend people weren't saying he was crap defensively..... because that is what people are saying.

Likewise I've seen Mertesacker playing, I've never been hugely impressed, and neither apparently are Germany fans or the guys that have seen him play every week. This automatic "he plays for Germany therefore he must be great" thing is a bit, stupid. Against a very poor Swansea, I saw enough mistakes to worry me, which is why........ I said that, I also said its too early to judge him but if Swansea who still haven't scored a goal managed to make him look a bit iffy...... then I believe better teams with, errm, goalscorers, especially pacey ones, might make him look completely crap.

Wenger even came out today saying Mertesacker was a change, he bought for height, not quality, which is pretty much genius, essentially suggesting he's not good enough but we need the height for set pieces.

Its not like we just shipped off a 6'5 who does very well at our set pieces that we just won't play or anything.

As for if our 3 points against Swansea count the same as the 3 points Utd, who cares, Utd have proven they can beat anyone, we've proven we can beat, the worst team in the league, we can't even prove we can beat the second worst team in the league, we played crap in all 4 league games and were gifted the points against Swansea...... I fail to see how thats a good sign of anything.

I don't think he got a wage increase, I just think with the way that they pay taxes it would double his money because we tax higher in this country. So after tax he would see a big increase.

So the papers are saying that he's actually quadroupled his wage, and its VERY VERY rare for ANY player to leave a promising career and go to the UAE without a MASSIVE pay increase to make it worthwhile, but you think its just the taxes. Sure, he's the first prem star to decide to leave a top league for a backwater hole of a league for very little extra money, just like Eto'o left recently CL champions to go to a stupid Russian side in a not well watched and liked league and didn't do it for money at all..........

redknapp wants chris samba. he'd be a great signing for us and i had hoped we would have got him over the summer. him and king or gallas would be immense.

If the papers said it then it must be true

The only difference is that Eto was sold and the other deal was a loan. I am not saying he NEVER got a big pay increase, I just read that the money was increased by the difference in tax. Could be both.

Blah Blah

It's strange how you only come back with bad things about the players. I think all of the new signings except Santos have Captained their team at some level. You could at least throw in a few positives. I know it hurts for you to say nice things about Arsenal but there are a few things.

And despite you not thinking a win is a positive result against Swansea I disagree. We have just got five new players in the team and we are still suffering from losing most of our best players. The team reached it's lowest point against Utd for as long as I can remember. We might not be getting great performances out of the team but a win and a draw is good.
