*** The Official HTC One M8 Thread ***

Just been having a look on xda photo thread and WOW, the photos look absolutely stunning imo  Seems like losing the OIS was a wise decision :p

Have to say I really like this device now, at first I wasn't at all tempted......

To be fair, the nexus 5 photo thread on xda looks good too!

Yeah it is definitely my favourite out of this years phones despite not being too impressed at the start. Only the design of the front which I am not keen on, just that big black bar with the htc logo :(

Replacement arrived today, been fine and actually feels a little snappier but that could just be me. Build quality is equally as perfect as the last one.

I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes but I'm hoping this one won't run into the reboot problems. Fingers crossed!

I can't remember where I read it, but I've seen it a few places. I think the guy who owns TapBots (who make the much praised TweetBot) has said Android isn't good to program for. I'm no expert programmer though so can't say with absolute certainty.

Then you have the Twitter tokens problem on Android which is stupid, 100k limit?!

Token limit is on all platforms, I think tweetbot hit it once before too and had to remove some users, it is more Twitter wanting everyone too use its own app more then any issue with Android.

I havn't developed for Android for awhile now and not using the new IDE but back in 2010 it sucked so badly, the community where just a bunch of old school Java developers that were not very welcoming. All sort of had a circle jerk and thought only vets where allowed to developer and thus never really helped, eclipse with the ADT plugin was a POS, one day I would open my project and it has random errors, nothing has changed in the code base. Close it and try again tomorrow error is gone.

iOS on the other hand was so much better, community was excellent, documentation was way better, xCode isn't amazing but it is so much better then eclipse, I know Android has moved to an intellij which is the best Java IDE. And the frontend development is so much easier, you only really have 2 view port. The language is much better too, might be personally but I just find Java a bit too long winded, Objective C and UI kit seem to do a much better for app development.

UI development as a whole is so much easier on iOS. Some of it has to do with there being more talented iOS developers vs Android, Apple has a huge following and iOS is quiet similar too OSX and a lot of great OSX developers just moved to iOS developing when it was released.

Guys, I'm having problems accessing the 'Settings' page for Facebook. On the Note3/S4 it's easy as their is a capacitive button for it but I'm struggling with the M8. Anyone know? I hate the ****ing thing notifying me everytime someone replies to a post

thanks

i jst went to from a s3 to s4then to htc m8,the build quality is like nothing ive seen before, but what killed it for me was that thay moved the bottom buttons back/ect onto the screen, also has this big black htcd black screen undearth, with me sitting comparing the 2 of them side by side the htc colours looked washed out compared against the s4,which is to be inspected, but to much of a difrence for me ,its like looking at hd v sd didnt like the way the icons scrolled down instead of side t0 side like trhe s4,look im no samaumg fanboy, this my honest thought whule havings both side by side, plus the big thing for me is u cant change the battery and its extremley hard to do as the battery is under the motherboeard with all types of glue aswell, you it would cost u £50 to have the battery replaced, tbut defo the best lokking and powerfull ive seen, shame its gumtree ias i really wantrd to like as i jst didnt fell like i upgraded from s3 to s4,sure the texts are saharper and colour is better, reaally confused

Do you know Tony Williams?

Yeah, some great shots from the nexus 5 as well but imo htc one m8 photos are in another league.

Still can't decide what to do about the nexus 5, if only the screen was AMOLED........ :p

For gods sake, you're using a One S!!!

Its like you're hauling yourself around on a pushbike criticising the grain of the leather of every car you look at.

The One S is fine, no more.. just buy something new! Anything!

And this "CBA" thing with rooting.. I don't buy that. You're either scared of losing the warranty or worried you won't be able to figure it out but when a lot of the tiny issues you have with new phones could be fixed with that then drop the CBA and either get on with it or accept you're stuck due to warranty concerns.

Sorry for the rant but I love phones as you know, you also seem to be well into it.. the concept of having the same phone for more than 6 months would depress the **** out of me!

Maybe that's the difference then. I still have an Galaxy S2 and am fairly happy with it. Contract has run out, so I'm looking at other options (thinking Nexus 5 at the moment), but it's just hassle changing from phone to phone.

I think people like me might not want to potentially mess up a phone they are going to keep for quite a long time after. I only rooted my S2 after the contract ended so I could get a new phone if something went wrong!
