*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Just signed up again after being with VM, I hope the Stream box isn't as toilet as what I've been reading.

Ultimate TV £22
Sports £18
UHD £2
Netflix Standard £6

£48 a month.

24 month contract.

Very much toilet starts off bad and you convincing yourself its good then its gets worse. Apple TV box and Now Tv is the best way IMHO.
100% agree. We gave Stream a year. Nothing improved. Been using 2 Apple TV 4K boxes for all our TV viewing for over a year now and they’ve been flawless. Wouldn’t ever use Sky’s mass-produced cheap as chips hardware again.

I'll see what it's like, I've read there's discounts to be had if you face issues or even complete cancellation.

The numbers for Now TV with Sports, UHD + Netflix didn't really stack up versus Stream.

Yeah they gave it to me for half price for the last 9 months of my contract. I still thought it was over-priced & couldn’t deal with the glitches and found it endlessly frustrating. So pleased to be rid of it.
NOW TV can be a lot cheaper. I pay £3.99pm for Entertainment on a 6 month contract. £5pm for Ultra Boost but often cancel it and get another month for free. It takes a bit more admin but works out cheaper and a LOT less frustrating than Sky Stream.

I'll see how it goes. What issues did you face? And were you connected via wired or wireless?

I know Now TV can work out better, but my mum is a big 'normal' TV watcher and she really doesn't get on well with the Apple TV apps when she visits. My wife is broadly the same for 'live' content. I also like that I don't have to faff about to get the deals, or worry about forgetting etc.

Kinda wish I could have had it a bit cheaper, but it is what it is.

It is pants, lots of lipsync issues if you are using any kind of soundbar.
Flickering picture which needs a restart of the box.
I've had fuzzy pictures when internet is not 100%.
When you "record" something, its mostly a link to the on demand from whoever hosted it. Sky atlantic stuff is great for this. However I recorded a couple of movies and when i went to watch them it took me to the sky store and asked me to pay!

The concept is awesome, implementation not so much

Moving back to VM which is taking a lot!

Constant lip sync issues when switching between different app sources.
Slooooooow apps - launching and then buffering up to full res. This is on a 500Mbps symmetrical FTTP connection. Tried Ethernet & WiFi - same on both.
Ad-skipping a joke, glitchy and unreliable. You get ads removed on NOW TV with Boost so they need to do the same on Sky Stream.
Reliably being able to watch any form of sport on demand is totally random. You might get a full replay or you might not. You might get it in UHD/HDR or you might not. There is no consistency.

Don't feel like Sky Stream is a great product. Perhaps better off going straight to Now. Might be what I do once I don't get a good SkyQ deal.

Steam is awful, gave notice in the cooling off period for all the reasons above. If I went back to Sky in future it would have to be Q, but I begrudge the ridiculous pricing so will do without it.

To add to this stream often doesn’t wake from stand by and you have to to restart the thing multiple times to get it working again. Time shows wrong so your EPG is out by 9 hours. As far I could tell you just had to wait until it pinged the time server again.

That’s before you even get onto things mentioned above, slow apps, adverts not skipped correctly, sport highlight not always being available. Great idea and I like what they are trying to do, the implementation is crap though.

The Stream box arrived on Saturday. It was a bit flaky at first, audio dropping out, picture freezing etc. It then did a software update after I installed Netflix to connect up my account and it's been relatively problem free since. There was a couple of audio drop outs during football last night but quick back button and back in and it was sorted. Certainly no where near as bad as I've read here and elsewhere. Smashed through Day of the Jackal and no issues at all, and started House of the Dragon and also fine.

Give it time.... I genuinely hope you have a better experience than most, but I am sceptical.

If it works for you I'm really pleased, for me coming from Q to Stream it felt like a backwards step.

I think the final straw was "recording" Elf on the showcase channel over Xmas which on Q would have been fine but with Stream when you go to watch it later it just links to the store and wants you to buy it or upgrade to include Cinema... makes no sense.

Being able to unplug the box and move it around the house was very handy though when I wanted a long NFL Red Zone session and not take over the lounge for 7 hours... with Q you're pretty much fixed unless you pay for all the multiroom stuff. Is really annoying you can't use Sky on PS5 or Xbox without multiroom. Sky always looking for ways to grab more money.

Exactly the idea is fantastic, a win-win for customers and Sky in theory - its the the implementation which is crap. Why not offer the service as an app for Apple TV as well? Stream boxes must cost pence to make and they don't sell them ....

Just noticed my Sky Q subscription for the basic TV and HD has jumped from £26 up to about £40. Quick Google and I can see Stream is available for £15 a month so brilliant, I'll call them up and swap over to that. Only to be told £15 is only for new customers, I get to pay £18 for the privilege..... I eventually agree to it only to be told I then need to pay £39.99 for the box as an existing customer which was the last straw so I've cancelled. They weren't able to match the online price for new customers which was mental.

I'll now wait to see if I get the usual phone call asking me to come back (31 day notice period) and if not I'll look to sign up as a new customer.

Absolute madness, they were getting £26 a month from me and that could have continued for all I cared. They also offer the product I want for £15 but can't sell it to me at that price.
