It was hard to be fair but I didn’t really have any other option as that was my life. I’m not dissing my marriage either. I’ve visited some amazing places and have tons of great memories. plus I’ve got 2 amazing children who are my everything.

im excited for the future and whatever that may bring. The whole dating app was a very surreal experience and something I never saw myself having to use. I’ve never been a judge a book by its cover type of guy (I think it because I see myself as a diamond in the rough, I don’t think I’m good looking and I’m not confident but if you get to know me I have good qualities and I’m a nice person, I fully vomit) but that’s almost exactly what those sites are.
Everyone I liked I thought was out of my league.

pre lockdown I went to the gym quite regular after the kids were in the bed just to get out the house so am looking forward to getting back into that. I’m just not good at making new friends. Examples being work. I’ve always kept work and personal life separate. I don’t socialise with work colleagues outside of work functions.

I never really and still don't to some extent though I'm closer to my work colleagues than I've ever been I think it's often best to keep work and personal lives seperate

Yeah so it seems to me that the hobbies and interests is just one of many issues some of you have mentioned.

Being polar opposite with morning/night is much more important to me personally as that’s just asking for incompatible issues.

I disagree with one of the comments about women wanting to change men once their married, at least in my own experience. Being perfectly honest some of my past relationships didn’t work more because of me than them but with that I’ve learnt from those experiences as I’ve gotten older.

Fundamentals are particularly important

Money,
marriage,
kids (biggest one for me, at least its easy to be clear on it!) ,
career,
outdoorsy or stay at home.

Even things like morning/night type of person.

The kids one blocks out 90 percent or more of the under 35 group, its a big big deal.

I think it depends on the really big things.

My wife and I both don't want kids. That is non-negotiable. But she is outdoorsy and I am stay at home, also she is an early bird and I am a night owl, but it works for us. I think having separate rooms helps, it's a God-tier move, but it's something that must be introduced very early in the relationship, you can't live together for years and then say you want to do it, it would cause a lot of upset.

Have you decided what to do in your current situation? I appreciate it must be damn hard.

See how things go.
It's hard. It's particularly hard for her obviously.

If it really does turn out to be 'friends' then yes. I don't think any point carrying on.

I'm in no rush. I dont want to find anyone else. Not interested in anyone else or anything like that.

Has anyone had success with dating apps. Is that really the way of the world nowadays?

I had no luck! But many have. It sure teaches you to be resilient though. So much trash and time wasters. I'd genuinely recommend it for character building. Just never ever get your hopes up.

I have a couple of stories (not that interesting), but one particular experience killed it for me. I wouldn't do it again

Ahh cool, good to know.
Is there any which is “better” than the others? I’ve only signed up with POF so far. I’m trying to avoid tinder if possible. What others are there?

Things have moved on since I was dating.
When I was (5 years ago) filters were rare, seemed to be less fakes etc.
So it's probably not applicable now. I only used POF and another I can't even remember.

I had a few good dates
A few bad
It was expensive!
I had 1 cat fish (lol)
I had one who went on for nearly 2 months (6-7 dates) and was ghosted. So disrespectful!

Just try to enjoy the experience. But personally if I was doing it again now. I'd join clubs with hobbies etc. Not possible for everyone.

I expect there are more people on it now. But way more scammers and time wasters

Depends on your location. In places such as London you have a good nest of people. But further up North you see more "curvy" people.

If you want something decent, always go for paid for apps or sites. You have less time wasters.

The last time I was dating was 15 years ago, I was early 20’s and it involved copious amounts of alcohol and being in a nightclub .
Things have moved on a lot since then.
being behind the times would one explain the ghosting/cat fishing thing?

joining clubs is a good idea, I train martial arts and do climbing which is my go to things. I don’t make friends easily though. Albeit I have made a good friend through martial arts who is female. She is just a friend though.

Will stick to free. I’m west but quite honestly I’m not into stick thin more makeup than sense kinda girls anyways. Pof that I’ve looked at so far has some incredible (subjective) looking girls.

Ghosting.. You're texting/meeting/dating and without warning you 'vanish'

For me, it was after about 6-7 dates. Then suddenly, without warning she vanished. So this happens a lot on 1st/2nd dates etc. Fine. But after a couple of months, at least say 'I've found something better'

Go o a date, girl looked OK. In real life she looks completely different. I'm not talking a little chubbier. I'm talking big differences. Pq0 year old pics.

It be a hard push to find stick thin women, even if you was into them on Plenty of Whales.....I mean Plenty of Fish. As my friend said, "POF is the Dixy Chicken of dating sites"

Looking for a quickie, that's the place to go!

Made me chuckle. I must be lucky in my area as there have been very little in the way of whales.

While that's the case for the most part, I've had two long term relationships from PoF and married one of them. To be clear I'm very picky and knew exactly who I wanted to meet, so I had an amazing four years of fishing before meeting my wife and couldn't be happier. We will have been married 5 years in August, and have two children by then.

During my four year tour I did date most of the women within a 25 mile radius to find the one I wanted to be with lol.

Ahh ok. Cheers for the lowdown.
Hmm after 6-7 dates that’s a bit rude

Ahh cool. A success story. your clearly a lot better looking that me. I matched with 2 and one stopped talking to me after sending 1 message. The other I’m still speaking too.

I'm not sure about the looks side of things but I found that while I sucked at real world dating, PoF allowed me to become comfortable with someone before meeting them.

Don't get me wrong, I've been ghosted by women when things were going great but I've also had to resort to ghosting when they've become too attached and I don't feel the same.

Trust me, if you stick with it you will find someone compatible. It took me four years, hundreds of dates and a few stalkers to find the right person. My wife was the last person I emailed as she popped up just before I was about to close my account!
