So turning down settings is only bad when it's due to vram limitations? Is there a thread listing all the games where the 3080 comes up short in raw grunt?

Would not want to express any uneducated opinion. ;) This thread was about vram I thought, there are other threads made by the same 'experts' it seems if you want to engage (but don't bother wasting your time)! :p

I'm a little wary of the statement that "the majority agree with me" when the thread is driven mostly by 3

Who are you referring to Bill?

Haha oh right, well I think I know what you mean. Will leave it to the resident specialists to award themselves titles and roles. Having an opinion on a public forum.. who would think of it!

I was just unsure who the majority was.

As long as in their own heads they have 'won' I guess. Its a shame some debates especially online platforms people think its 'us vs them' mentality.

What games you playing right now Bill?

Once games start making use of RTX IO / direct storage then VRAM will be less of an issue anyway so cards like the 3080 may end up aging better than others with more VRAM but less capable RT.

Yes this seems to have disappeared since Jensen mentioned it at the release. I have read a few people comment a while back that it isnt anything amazing, but I will wait till its in action before judging it. More features/tools for improvements are always welcome! :)

I mean, are FC 6's textures that much better than the last iteration of FC?

RTX 2060 below.

I would love to know what added detail you are getting as I can bet it's a tiny difference.

It would be a tin foil hat move but AMD were touting their Vram standards as better than nVidia's until the 6500 XT came out.

Not really, that's not something you can do until all pc gamers have a GPU that supports direct storage. The only thing direct storage will do for the next few years is make games load slightly faster, the other benefits cannot easily be done on PC because putting them into your game will make the game unplayable for anyone who doesn't have the newest GPU

Time and time again, Vram almost makes no difference, we had GTX 680's with 4GB and even now it makes no difference in any games that saturate 2GB mostly.

People get way ahead of themselves.

Completely agree with the fc new dawn statements, textures in that looked stunning and in some places, better than fc 6 imo, main difference with fc 6 is the variety of world assets though.

Sadly most likely this.

See rank and clatchet to see just how game changing direct storage is, however, who knows, maybe they could have an option to change between direct storage and the current method....

This thread clearly needs a poll. I think the problem here is that Nvidia knew 8gb was too low for 4k gaming but released it anyway so that the enthusiasts that want to play at 4k with all settings on very high or ultra will have to buy the 3090 or 3080ti.

It's all about making the most you can out if your customer base.

Yep. That’s what Nvidia are all about. Jensen is pro at that game.

3080 was able to hit a nice price point but with only 10gb vram. Want more vram? Pay us double or more and we give you 24GB and throw in an extra 15% performance

Higher number of assets just requires more efficient streaming. Something they have failed to impove upon for the texture pack. There again why would they when AMD were paying them not to.

I've said before, this is AMD's Crysis 2, except back then we all knew Nvidia were being ********.

As the issue (FPS drops to single digits) only happened on the 3080, and not the much slower 3060, I guess that confirms the cause is lack of VRAM on the 3080 as we have cited all along as no other GPUs are affected. ReBar on Nvidia appears to use more VRAM, perhaps...
Now you can make an argument to disable it and if that fixes the FPS drops, bad frame times and image issues I agree we can close the case. @tommybhoy @gerardfraser - As impartial 3080 users, we await your feedback. :)

Sorry just seen this post a few days later.
I agree with LTMatt 100% I have not read all the post in this thread and just went through the post I quoted.

My RTX 3080 can not run this game at 4K Ultra settings and HD Textures on,10 GB is not enough, hell even without HD Textures on still runs bad at times on 4K Ultra settings. My RTX 3080 will get down to single digit FPS even with Rebar disabled at 4K with Hd Textures. The game runs really bad on the RTX 3080,the game was fun for awhile but with all the problems,I will not be finishing the game.

I have tested the game on 3 different computers with RTX 3080. I played 42+ hours and uploaded 51 Far Cry 6 Videos to youtube on the three different computers.
Computers I used were all Intel and Nvidia. 10850K build and two 12900K builds.

I checked out the game today a couple days ago for missing textures,I did not find any but I did find on the DLC Vass the game still has problems with missing shadows, flickering shadow and stuff just disappearing.

I do not have problems on any other PC Games and when I play at lower than 4K resolutions I do not have crashes or bad frametimes etc, just my two cents.

Video bad FPS and crash to desktop even with HD Textures off. I also could be 100% wrong and it is not the RTX 3080
