I guess if there’s no sensor then it’s probably not the issue? Unless the fans are linked to it but the sensor isn’t accessible in software monitors. There's no sensor on the 3070.

As somebody else already pointed out... thats your VRAM temp hitting 104...Can anyone confirm if their 3090 Fe sounds like this under load? Its almost as bad playing control.
Finding some older games result in the fans ramping up to higher speeds and very audible for some reason - not related to frame rate as I've already eliminated that and/or some of them are still graphically intensive enough they aren't running at 100s of FPS anyhow.
I played all though CP2077 and barely heard a noise out of my 3070FE - but playing some older stuff like City of Heroes after awhile fans ramp right up - sometimes just for a minute or two other times until I close the game.
Not sure what is going on there as it doesn't seem related to frame rate, thermals, etc.
Decided to have a go at replacing the thermal pads and my conclusion is for me it was a complete waste of time (and money). So I dont duplicate post if you want to know more with pictures its over at the 3080 Owners thread.

Mine use to do exactly that. And oddly it was older games like GTA V that would get it there. I replaced just the back-side pads, now the temps top out around 96.
Not great still, and im sure if I did the front too be even lower. But, its enough to stop that awful fan ramping. Mine dont tend to go over 1400rpm now. Usually around 1250rpm. Coil whine is louder than the fans now.... so downside to it too!
I noticed this too... old games like GTA V and Borderlands 2 made both my 80fe and 90fe louder than modern stuff like CoD:BOCW / SoTR.
Always the VRAM temp... gets to around 102-104 and the fans go nuts.
while the 70 does not have the temps exposed, maybe it does have some kinda internal way to know and ramp the fans up?
Im guessing your core temps all good when this happens?
Anyone else finding it tough to ignore the fact that we can sell our 3080s for almost 3 times what we paid for it? I am loving the performance so I won't do it but the temptation...
On that second hand site it’s looking like people aren’t touching 3080FEs at or above £1500 which I think is proof that the price is slipping back down. That's not the case any more, the price is dropping due to changes in the crypto-sphere so if anyone wants to cash in then they better be quick.

Edit: Okay disregard the above I just checked the sold tab, however it does look like current listings are trending cheaper
Potentially stupid question. Stock fan curves? Are you hitting the same temps but with the fans at a lower speed?

Yeah when I saw how much the 3090 was going for I was tempted but then figured what will I use instead? An old 970 or something and wait how long? It's tempting to earn a grand though, save it and slum it with an old card until prices/supply return to normal but who knows how long that will be and can I be bothered!?

Do we think the 3080ti will be sold through the competitor like the other FE's or directly through Nvidia's site for launch?
i.e if sold through the competitor will it have the same blocks in place if you have purchased a 30 series card before?
Recently confirmed in another thread that the blocks are in place for the foreseeable future.if sold through the competitor will it have the same blocks in place if you have purchased a 30 series card before?
What resolution are you playing GTA V at and what fps? In my experience, high frames per second tend to cause more problems on graphics cards and why I have very little trouble with my 4k60 target these days.
It's weird, but if I were paying £1400 for a graphics card, I'd want it to be perfect, even though I know that's not how the world works.
