30xx Series Founders Edition

Can anyone confirm if their 3090 Fe sounds like this under load? Its almost as bad playing control.
As somebody else already pointed out... thats your VRAM temp hitting 104...
Mine use to do exactly that. And oddly it was older games like GTA V that would get it there. I replaced just the back-side pads, now the temps top out around 96.
Not great still, and im sure if I did the front too be even lower. But, its enough to stop that awful fan ramping. Mine dont tend to go over 1400rpm now. Usually around 1250rpm. Coil whine is louder than the fans now.... so downside to it too!

Finding some older games result in the fans ramping up to higher speeds and very audible for some reason - not related to frame rate as I've already eliminated that and/or some of them are still graphically intensive enough they aren't running at 100s of FPS anyhow.

I played all though CP2077 and barely heard a noise out of my 3070FE - but playing some older stuff like City of Heroes after awhile fans ramp right up - sometimes just for a minute or two other times until I close the game.

Not sure what is going on there as it doesn't seem related to frame rate, thermals, etc.

I noticed this too... old games like GTA V and Borderlands 2 made both my 80fe and 90fe louder than modern stuff like CoD:BOCW / SoTR.
Always the VRAM temp... gets to around 102-104 and the fans go nuts.

while the 70 does not have the temps exposed, maybe it does have some kinda internal way to know and ramp the fans up?

Im guessing your core temps all good when this happens?

Decided to have a go at replacing the thermal pads and my conclusion is for me it was a complete waste of time (and money). So I dont duplicate post if you want to know more with pictures its over at the 3080 Owners thread.

Potentially stupid question. Stock fan curves? Are you hitting the same temps but with the fans at a lower speed?

Anyone else finding it tough to ignore the fact that we can sell our 3080s for almost 3 times what we paid for it? I am loving the performance so I won't do it but the temptation...

Core temps are good in fact drop down a lot with the fans ramped up that much and it doesn't seem related to GPU load or frame rate.

That's not the case any more, the price is dropping due to changes in the crypto-sphere so if anyone wants to cash in then they better be quick.

On that second hand site it’s looking like people aren’t touching 3080FEs at or above £1500 which I think is proof that the price is slipping back down.

Edit: Okay disregard the above I just checked the sold tab, however it does look like current listings are trending cheaper

It’s madness to buy one even remotely around that price as it has zero warranty, and Murphy law dictates buy one and you’ll be screwed.

Yeah when I saw how much the 3090 was going for I was tempted but then figured what will I use instead? An old 970 or something and wait how long? It's tempting to earn a grand though, save it and slum it with an old card until prices/supply return to normal but who knows how long that will be and can I be bothered!?

Stock fan curve actually runs slightly hotter. So lower fan speed custom fan curve. Maybe I should have not done both pads and fan curve at same time but its not made any difference really changing the pads.
Maybe if I did the front side but I`m not messing about with it anymore for the time being its satisfied my itch.

They all sound like that with the fans going flat out. Your fans are flat out because of the junction temp.

I struggled with mine until I sorted my case airflow. Gamer's Nexus reviewed my case in airflow config and stock config and got a 10 degree difference. That 10 degrees dropped the 3090FE max fan speeds from 2000 to 1400rpm which is the difference between inaudible over the case fans and hoover.

Side panel off and point a deskfan at it. If that works then-

Pad mods and potential warranty issues.

or

Airflow case with big quiet fans.

Undervolting will also help a little. I run 1950/900, if temps are an issue try 1830/850. The nvidia overclock thing boosts mine over 2k but pulls getting on for 400w.

Does make you wonder though nearly a £1000 in your pocket just for selling the card now. Plenty of people have done it.

No unless I hit a financial emergency, as it certainly wont be as easy getting a second to replace it given the efforts to prevent duplicate orders.

What resolution are you playing GTA V at and what fps? In my experience, high frames per second tend to cause more problems on graphics cards and why I have very little trouble with my 4k60 target these days.

It's weird, but if I were paying £1400 for a graphics card, I'd want it to be perfect, even though I know that's not how the world works.

Do we think the 3080ti will be sold through the competitor like the other FE's or directly through Nvidia's site for launch?

i.e if sold through the competitor will it have the same blocks in place if you have purchased a 30 series card before?

Playing at 3840x1600, and with the game maxed out FPS ranges from 60 - 110 usually. Benchmark says avg is 90fps. But that seems higher than what I see when playing.
As its a 144hz screen, Ideally id like higher.

With the replaced rear pads, the fan noise is fine ok. Much much better than stock. Just the dam coil whine now....

So if you by any RTX 3000 FE from Nvidia, you can't buy a different one later?

You can still buy a future gen one right?

Cos if I don't manage to get a 3080 Ti, I was considering trying for a 3070 Ti, but then selling it if I managed to find a 3080+ later.

But it seems I can't do that if I wanted a 3080 or 3080 Ti FE.

3070 Ti isnt worth it to upgrade from my 1080 Ti, and the only thing I want is anything good for 4K Ray Traced games, so was wanting a 3080 FE at least.

I 'only' paid £720 for my 1080 Ti and that was the most expensive card I've had, only reason I will try to get a 3080 Ti FE is due to how hard it is to get a 3080 FE, and its the most powerful dual slot card available.

I neither want triple slot nor will I pay AIB prices, I don't mind undervolting the FE if I have to.
