*** Alien: Covenant ***

Great poster!

Huge amount of spoilers out there so if that bothers you beware.

I don't want to jinx it but I think this is going to be a must see... everything I've read suggests this is the movie every fan has been waiting for:cool::)

Don't hold your breath, the hype around Prometheus was a lot bigger than this and look how that turned out. I was totally immersed in everything to the build up of that movie as this thread can attest:

Don't get me wrong, I really liked it at the time and still do but I can pick holes and faults in it all day long.

After watching Aliens for the nth time last night I REALLY hope they do a film with alternate version after the events of Aliens. I would love to see a badass Hicks with one eye and acid burn scars on his face and arm, badass alien killer/nerdy tech bod Newt and Ripley. I seem to recall a comic version where the marines go to an alien homeworld to steal Royal Jelly which gives the marines a boost in strength, aggression, endurance etc. I also seem to remember power armour that had been modified specially for the marines to use when in combat with the aliens.

Similar experience for me, although I wasn't convinced that revealing the Alien and Jockey's backstory was a good idea at first. I thought their origins were best left to the viewer's imagination.

Eventually I came around to the idea of the film when more info started coming out, and it got to the point where I got a bit too caught up in the hype surrounding Prometheus, thinking it was going to be a great sort of prequel to Alien.

I still love Alien, but Prometheus, which I did enjoy on the first viewing, I now find it more frustrating to watch than it is enjoyable. The stupid stuff which I didn't really pay attention to during the first viewing, is now like noticing someone sat there poking me in the face.

I'm not expecting much from Alien Covenant, not after what happened with Prometheus and after reading of script rewrites, again. Only saving grace might be that based on his previous work, John Logan (who was brought into rewrite the script) is a lot better than Damon Lindelof, who was brought into rewrite Prometheus.

I'm not sure about the tablet but they've been rereleasing the classic Dark Horse comics as hardcover omnibus editions (including Earth Hive etc).
I think Forbidden Planet have the second one on offer for £20 at the moment.

I need to look into the ebook versions (if they do one) as I want to reread them but don't have the space for more big books.

I'm a massive Alien "universe" fanboi and was one of those people who queued up for a midnight viewing of Prometheus in my Nostromo t-shirt for what I thought was going to be the best film I'd seen in years.

I left confused, angry and vowing never to get hyped like that again, so even though that poster does look epic Ridley Scott can sod off until he's proven to me that Prometheus was an one off disaster which he'll never repeat. It ways almost as bad as the 1st AvP movie!

I bought them all about a year ago, they came down to half price around chrimbo.

Dark Horse have a few new ongoing series as well, nice to see new Alien stuff being produced.

I hear what you're saying Six:)

I feel the components for great movie were there for Prometheus but I think outside interference and it's influence resulted in a bad edit and a hampered script. The desire to perhaps create another trilogy resulted in more mystery when fans were ready for answers to old questions in preparation for new ones.

I've hoped we would have a directors cut replacing scenes which were cut and perhaps using some of the viral marketing (such as Vickers interviews) to help explain why a supposedly intelligent group of scientists would make such stupid decisions.

On reflection I feel that someone who followed the marketing etc and the clues within had perhaps a fuller and more satisfying viewing of Prometheus than others who just simply went to watch the movie. Hopefully this will be something considered going forward.

I think the trailer will give us our initial answer to whether Covenant will be the movie we've all been waiting for...

so fingers crossed!!!:D

I didn't watch any of the viral marketing or trailers because I didn't want to have anything given away before I watched the film, considering how "bad" modern trailers are at spoiling the film, and I don't think that it's a good marketing idea to have the only people who "got" the film to be those who did see all the extra stuff first as 90% of people won't do that.

I did the same with The Force Awakens (avoided everything prior to release) and found the film was much better for it, rather than much worse.

That's what I was implying. That it was a mistake.. not that it was a good idea:confused:

That's why I said "Hopefully this will be something considered going forward" at the end of my train of thought.

I agree with you Ian that avoiding modern trailers seems to be the right way to go these days, but I'll be unable to resist this time:o:D

LOL, I realised and was agreeing with you but it's just come across poorly, damn written word :D

I know the feeling Ian:o:D

I'll let Jack demonstrate our frustration
