Staying in one place to long it will find you, it hears the motion tracker. You can lean back in the lockers.

Try using flares to distract it, sometimes it is worth lobbing one in an area you are moving away from. It tends to just stand and stare at it for awhile before realising it has been fooled. Flares work well with humans and androids too.

Nightmare - for those with a strong disposition and the urge to take their Alien: Isolation experience to the next level:
  • Broken Motion Tracker - a distorted signal with unreliable information
  • Reduced resources
  • Authentic flamethrower - fuel is rare to find and burns faster
  • Map systems are offline and hack systems are harder
  • Synthetics and survivors are more hostile
  • Alien AI has been upgraded to be more aggressive, adapting faster and affording no second chances to anyone

Novice - for those wanting a bit more breathing space:
  • More resources to be found, increasing survival chances
  • Synthetics and fellow survivors are less aggressive and easier to survive
  • Alien is less menacing, less aggressive and easier to distract

Nightmare sounds absolutely terrifying :D
 
I've been watching reviews of this, I'm apparently meant to be doing a live stream of it... But I genuinely don't think I could play it :(
 
I have not been that bothered to get past there to be honest, I stuck it on the easiest difficulty just for the first play through and the damn thing is relentless like I'm on Expert!
 
I'm surprised they haven't done a mode with no save stations, with the game just saving between missions. That'd be true hardcore!

Just completed that section on hard.

I actually did it as quickly as normal but I put that down to learning how to evade the Alien.

Biggest problem is the damn survivors who start blazing away with guns attracting the darn thing.
