Alien: Isolation...

Gotta read this issue shortly!

I'm wondering if it is just 5-6 big levels where you escape from the alien in an escape pod in different environments? A bit like Left4Dead was different zones that you had to escape from.

Online? :D

I rarely buy mags anymore, have to be top quality stuff! Gone are the days of buying every new edition :(

eMag yeah :D

So from reading the 4 page article on it I have learnt that:

- CA have been working on the game for "the better part of a decade" so actually came into the hopes and dreams of the devs long before Colonial Marines. Fills me with even more confidence in Isolation.

- You can hold your breath and lean away from the vents when inside a locker so the salivating Alien doesn't see or hear you.

- The fear factor is real. The author says he played a 40 minute demo of it and in all his gaming years this was a tense moment, getting out of that locker was a tough choice!

- "You might look at the screenshots and think 'Sci-Fi FPS' - don't. Think Amnesia in space" -

- "Once you've met the Alien, that's it"

- "Where it appears from then on is very much dynamic".

- "It has no set movement pattern or route, instead using its own intelligence to follow sights and sounds..."

- "The creature's movements aren't canned animations. The way it moves is intended to give you some sense of what it knows and where its focus is". "If it doesn't know where you are it will prowl..."

- "The Alien learns" "It can't necessarily be tricked"

CA's Al Hope says they're not fans of taking control away from the player and I agree with PCG that this is great to hear and promising for the game.

The author played it on PC with an Xbox controller and said the pad worked really well and you can pin the movement with fine details using the analogue sticks. Good news for those that want to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere... I know I will give that a go!

Roll on Q4 this year then!

That all sounds rather fab mrk.

I presume they have far more CPU cycles to dedicate than usual to the AI, having only 1 creature to look after, and with only 1 other mobile object (you) in the scenario, they can hopefully play out some pretty complex AI situations.

My only worry is that I am not going to be able to play it with the lights out and headphones on  :(

Hype. I bet less than 50% of that makes it into the game. I remember all the tech videos for Farcry 2, and then actually playing it. It was nothing like the promised features, even if they were technically in there at some level. I hope I'm wrong as a truly scary Alien game would be amazing. I still remember playing FEAR at night with my headphones on - the cold shivers and goosebumps it would give.

Far cry 2?

1: Different game.
2: Different developer
3: That game tried to do too many things at once.
4: Ubisoft...

Brilliant comparison there.

A bit of auto aim when using a pad is fine. I just hope it's not filled with daft quick time events.

Ugh, I still have the foul taste of Alien vs Predator game... The killing animations looked great but had no place in multiplayer as it was a never ending cycle of people waiting for the animation to finish so they could grab onto you after

Wow, I dismissed this thread as just another indie title, I didnt think for a minute it was going to be actual 'Alien'.

This looks awesome, although I found Alien the scariest movie I've ever seen when I was younger, it still gives me the willies now.

Looking forward to this but its gonna scare the **** outa me.

Fingers crossed they dont balls it up like CM.
