Alien: Isolation...

I'm the same. Playing this in dayight hours - even with the curtains drawn just feels wrong and I can't do it.
Night time, lights out with headphones on is the way to do it.

Not too impressed like. It just feels like Deus Ex HR in space. Haven't seen the Alien yet, granted, but I'm bored of sneaking around hiding from people...

How far in are you? The first mission sees more people/synthetics than the alien, but just wait!

Erm, not far. I'm at the point where I caught that girl hacking the door, and I need the data cell. I just hate games where you have to crouch and learn timing of enemies. The graphics are amazing but all immersion is lost with the poor lip sync and crap human AI. I'll give it another go later on.

but surely you knew what the game would be considering its an extension of the films. Don't like it don't buy it!

The purpose of the sneaking is to avoid the Alien. If you've not seen the films it not really going to appeal!

Oh I knew what to expect, and I love the films. The sneak aspect I have no problem with, it's just that the AI isn't that good so it's kind unintuitive so far...

And your post was a little intense, no? ha

Snips you make me laugh, your posts go from absolute irritation to genuine love for the game. Hehe. I can tell its a love hate relationship.

As with most games there are frustraitions which make you not want to play - however, the game is so well desined (IMO) that it brings me back for more!

When it works its great and when you can't work it, its the most infuriating thing!

Maybe - I do see your point about the AI. I'm in the process of ending mission 6 which is a big challenge. The alien, while having unexpected movements, isnt as good as it could be.

I would enjoy the freedom of movement whilst you still can....

You will soon feel like a 2 metre dash from a locker to table will feel like a kilometre.

Sometimes the most visible, obvious place will work temporarily and other times you will be convinced you cannot be found and will be.

Watching that thing pace about whilst you are helpless becomes very nerve wrecking.

What is amusing is although the alien is pretty much stalking you, it can be used to your advantage when coming accross other leathal survivors.

It is an amazing game, but i don't think hard is the way its meant to be played as mentioned when you start the game.

I don't think mere mortals like us could play the entire game on hard throughout, folks like JP are obviously plain and simple badass mofos. Since there is a genuine difference in the Alien AI, I'd just reduce the difficulty if you're having issues getting through a certain part then pop it back to hard. To me the difficulty settings were a difference of terror vs rushing.

Does the difficulty setting make a difference to the Alien AI then?

Definitely. That's exactly why this is the first game I've played on hard for years. I can't stand lazy implementation of difficulty when all it means is the enemies take more bullets to kill, I get that finding less ammo around is hard but even that form of lazy implementation annoys me. I have a steam backlog of amazing games and if you're wasting my time like that, instead of making the game more of an intelligent difficulty, then I'd rather use that time playing other games.

Here those dynamics don't apply since you aren't designed to be in combat and your experience is completely altered by the difficulty setting. I'm sure it's nothing crazy like an altering of major code but more the viewing distance of the Xenomorph or removing triggers. Yes the Androids take more bullets but you're supposed to feel terror when they slowly walk towards you or you run past groups of them while they calmly say "let's resolve this amicably."

I need to start using these gadgets a little more since some of them can affect the Xenomorph's attention to you. I just don't want to waste them but there's plenty of parts around even on hard.

Yes!! Tell me about it and how cool is it hearing those sounds and watching it happen. The lean and peak system in this is the best I've ever seen, even when standing tall you can get on your tiptoes and peek up.

I think everyone had their irritations in that section. There's a lot of retracing and no clue of where to go or hints on how to distract them or method of brute force combat. You can turn down the difficulty for that section but the rewire boxes on the walls help if you can set it up before she comes back with friends. You'll learn that you can use them throughout the game to help you a lot, i.e. turning off the air purification gives mist in corridors and you can use that for cover.

I love it.

I just arrived in the technical training area and there were 3-4 survirors. Threw in a noisemaker and the Alien did all the work.

Just started Mission 7 and still not fired my gun :D

Finally an Aliens Game worthy of the name just finished it and thoroughly enjoyed it, after a bit the jaggedys didn't bother me and the game sequences towards the end were epic will play it on hard now:D

Just played a mission on normal, and it feels just about right to me. The Alien doesn't home in on your location every time you decide to come out from hiding, but shows up enough to put the fear in you.

On hardmode every time i decided to move the Alien would come straight to my location all the time without fail, and made the game feel very repetitive while losing its scary vibe, instead giving it a frustrating one.

The sound in this game is enough to keep it scary anyway, i don't need no hardmode Alien to keep the fear present while playing. :p

Hardmode Alien is too stronk :(

The problem is that on hard mode the Alien still acts like a dog when you throw a flare or whatever to distract it.
So it isn't really that hard as long as you have supplies.

Also there are a couple of times in the later missions (15 and 17 I think) where it is obvious that the Alien is scripted to appear after you trigger an event, so you could have just dealt with it and then a second later it appears jumping out in front of you where it couldn't possibly be.

I like the way the alien is sparsely used and it stops the game turning in to a 3rd person full on shooter. Just like the original film - the less you see the scarier it is.

it has its flaws but name a game that doesnt.
