Alien: Isolation...

I don't understand the fuss personally, linear gameplay, basic AI with the alien pretty much tethered to you.

It just seems to be a cheap Doom 3 knock off but instead of lots of shooty action you're just hiding in lockers etc while a scripted alien wastes your time. I found Slender Man far more scary, the alien was just an annoyance after the first few deaths.

^Cheap Doom3? IMO it does things Doom 3 could never do and the AI is actually better where applicable. As for linearity, it doesn't get any more linear than Doom 3's corridor shooting antics.

You know what the ultimate DLC for this would be? A DLC with no mission objective but just the ability to explore the Sevastopol Station before **** hit the fan. I guess you'd have to assume the character of a crew person or visitor on the station at the time but it would be awesome to just explore every inch of the station and see how life was before things turned bad.Maybe even take an exploration tour of a neighbouring planet or something.

For me it was the aesthetics and the atmosphere, the way it captured its source so well.

I didnt find it scary, but then I am 42 years old and can honestly say that I dont find anything which isnt real scary (be it movies or games), however in terms of capturing the essence of Alien, its pretty faithful and a great artistic homage.

Yeah it reminded me of Doom 3 with the running around reading computers to follow the story (on Doom 3 it was PDA's I think?) the trouble is instead of shooting your way to progress in your own time and having fun, you have to keep waiting for an alien that is scripted to appear right next to repeatedly get out of your way.

As for linearity, it doesn't get any more linear than Doom 3's corridor shooting antics.

Doom 3 was released in 2004 though to be fair.

I think the atmosphere and graphics were quite good too. I just found the gameplay slow and monotonous once the alien started following you everywhere.

You don't work for IGN do you? :D

I sort of agree with mmj tbh....

Whilst it is a superb "alien" game... I feel it is a bit dull. I have spent about 90% of my time just hiding in lockers, under beds etc. and then the rest just walking to a certain point and stopping to interact with a terminal every now and then etc.

I also found it frustrating trying to get to said points when you have the alien constantly walking around every minute, get seen/caught, basically dead....... Now that I have the flame thrower though, I can play a bit more aggressively.

The graphics, music, sounds, story, map/ship design etc. are VERY good though and this is what makes it a good "alien" game

When working my way through the server room the alien doesn't attack the android. Is it supposed to? It's done it before!

No the Alien and the Androids do not attack each other, the story will explain why that is the case

Which part of the story is that, i've completed it and don't remember any explanation.

I do know the reason from stuff outside of the game (books/comics) but curious to the games explanation.

This game has ruined me, I can't be arsed with anything else now, i've tried playing 6 separate games today and got bored with them all :(

No reason the Alien doesn't attack them, other than it perhaps senses they aren't human and of no use as hosts.

The Working Joe's are commanded centrally by Apollo. Weyland Yutani bought Sevastapol station when they found out about the Alien outbreak. They sent a command signal to Apollo which reprogrammed it to protect the Aliens at all cost. So the Working Joe's don't harm the alien(s) and they take out humans that could be a threat to them

I disagree with people that say you just spend all your time hiding in lockers ect. Iv barely used any apart from the medical area.
And The alien searching for you only seems to be a small part of the game. Of course it would be annoying if it did it all the way through but so far it hasn't happened that often.

IM currently at the part where you come across the alien eggs or alien hive? its the part after the outside generators in the rain and then you go into an alien hive with all the bodies ect on the walls. How far through the game would you say I am so far?

Outside of the game it's exactly as you said in the first paragraph.

However regardless of the Androids mandate, there is no in-game explanation of why the Alien does not attack them. I even watched it get stuck behind one in a corner. It's a shame the Alien doesn't interact with them at all :(

sorry, didn't explain much as I didn't want to say too much. I meant the androids don't attack the alien because thier role is to protect them from humans for the company, hence the violent attacks on you, the alien doesn't touch them, I imagine as they serve no biological purpose I.e food or reproduction, they are just another machine

I haven't read many of the posts on this thread since the game was released but I am hours and hours into it and couldn't be having more fun. It's the game I wanted and my game of the year by far.

Finally finished it. 10/10 for me. The harshest I can say about it is its perhaps a bit too long and can get slightly repetitive. But show me a game that doesn't. In regards to length, even though it is rather long. I did find myself saddened knowing it would some come to an end.

Well I read the situation this way. Seegson are like Weyland Yutani and trying to protect and preserve the Alien. Just after the server room I found a terminal that said Weyland Yutani had purchased the Sevastopol and had control over APOLLO. APOLLO controls the Working Joe's so they would have most likely been told not to attack non-humans.

Being the Working Joe's are rubber skinned and are not being aggressive to the Alien it probably see's no threat in them and just leaves them be. In speculation they could have even helped it in the early days.

Funniest moment I had was when an Android and the Alien were in a room together. I had just managed to dive into a small locker thing. After a minute or two intense moments I saw the Alien jump up through the overhead vent. Got out the motion tracker to check the Android was gone and all looked clear. Then from nowhere the doors flung open and a massive android face was staring at me with red eyes.

I think it shocked me more than the Alien had in the past.
