AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

tbf i watched the event but the benchmarks were all over the place - it wasnt structured properly, for example i read that slide as 1.7x and got excited till i found Upto written in small letters on a rewatch
the only thing that caught my eye was the stupendous fps numbers in hitman 3..
they need to structure the presentation better so that people dont walk out thinking that all they did was talk about displayport 2.1

The XTX is monstrous for my res, and in all likely hood won't bottleneck as much as RTX, We still have had no update on the driver overhead from Nvidia drivers.

Nvidia released a driver couple weeks to help with overhead but it only improves performance by single digits

The only mental gymnastics here are done by AMD fanboys… every single new product launch.

They didn’t even compare it to their previous gen. Just RT being not even 2x. That should tell you how much confidence they DON’T have in their product.

:) :) :)

On the other hand, they will bring out their own frame generation fsr ‘wannabe dlss3’ which is good in case you can’t switch to a 4xxx card right now. Might force Nvidia to get some kind of frame gen working on older gen cards too.

If only Nvidia priced the 4080 16gb £750-£850 why did they need to get so greedy I would have been all over that

Here is a link for you to watch the event again.. and see they did compare it to the previous gen.

Sad state of affairs when the term fanboy is mentioned.. and they end up outing themselves as one! But getting the facts wrong because they couldn't be bothered to listen and open eyelids is next level ignorance.

Without an understanding of the distribution of workload between RT And raster in those titles you can’t actually make that claim
Actually I can make a very solid inference by seeing that the scalar between RDNA2 raster and RDNA3 raster, is higher than for RT.

It’s always possible there’s a confounding variable, but it’s not particularly likely.

Yeah I'll be honest, when watching the AMD presentation and they were showing off RT I found it difficult to tell the difference. Maybe it's because I'm on an older monitor? Only thing I could see was a proper reflection in one of the puddles on the floor in, I think it was spiderman.
AMD presentation showed the least impressive RT which is shadows. There’s GI, reflections and more… but considering their ‘strong’ suit is the least performance intensive RT effect they showed off just that.

Something is a bit off with this launch. Are they sandbagging? But you may ask, how?
Well, there were 2 things:
1. It was rumored that AMD lowered the specs of the Reference GPU. I didn't want to believe it but apparently they did. It's like the 5700xt all over again (mid range as a top end card). There was rumored a die with more 128 WGPs and higher cache, like 192MB. Is that perhaps the 7950xt? Or will the 7950 be just a higher clock version? That's not clear yet until Nv releases the Ti.
2. It's also rumored that RDNA 3 will scale performance with more power. AIBs from Sapphire to Asus are said to show a decent gap in performance from AMD's reference model do to the higher clocks.

If AIBs can reach 3GHz that's what...around 500Mhz +/- increase over Reference boost clock of 2.5Ghz. That's pretty substantial if that's aircooled. Watercooled, not hard to do.

@Tired9
I am not sure what's negatively believed about the drivers. I've not had any issues on GPU drivers for years now. And again, I recommend that you stop linking/watching that youtuber. He has absolutely no idea of what he's talking about. I will refer you back to my prior post here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/rdna-3-rumours-q3-4-2022.18927635/post-35983697

And that video you linked isn't talking about gpu drivers but Ageia firmware updates for the motherboard. He's confusing Radeon Adrenaline with Agesa. Again, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

My bet is the reference frequency is where the card gets most perf/watt. Sure you will see an increase in performance with the 3x8 power connector cards but i think you are fooling yourself thinking they downclocked the cards to hide something.
The reality is the first day review is what remains in people's brains. So if the cards will be tested @ 355W 2,3 Ghz then bringing more powerful cards 2 weeks later will not change the perception even if those cards are 10% more powerful.

Actually you are fooling yourself if you believe they downclocked the card. Because that is not what I said nor implied to say. There are no AIBs showing off any cards as of yet. That's the sandbagging I'm talking about. Not about AMD limited their cards intentionally. Perhaps AMD may limit their reference cards, don't know. But I am sure they've designed the card to work the way they intended it to.

Therefore, I am more interested in the AIB variants like the Sapphire Toxic, Asus, etc.
