AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

The power issue was mentioned in the GN video, so likely be a pretty quick fix.
I hope so... its putting a lot of people off in here. I'm all for new tech and architecture but i do wonder what was going through AMD's head whent hey saw the performance of the 4080 and 4090. Here's hoping for a 7950XTX that can close the gap somewhat on the 4090.

It really only matters if you are using multi screen but as someone who uses 2 screens for work purposes, I would be avoiding the 7900 until it is fixed.

Oh please don't get him started with reams of pointless drivel with links about why RT is the only thing that matters.

Damn... too late.

Yeah, my bad. I don't disagree with the future of RTX at all, but my point was specifically about people in the comments of that F1 2022 video jumping to RTXs defense whilst simultaneously proving they can't actually see the difference without going into analysing mode. Until RTX starts to make a material visual improvement in a material amount of modern games, I will place little value on it when purchasing GPUs given I'm not at 4k 120+ FPS on most games st high settings (with resolution and frame rate always trumping all other settings - remember, nothing looks good when it's got aliaising and is stuttering).

So the big question now is can AMD or nvidia actually deliver a higher performing card than a 6800XT or 3080 at £650 or under as on this evidence it looks highly unlikely.

I have a 7" LCD for a sensor panel and that is a second screen. Would suck for that little panel to be the cause of an extra 70w when browsing the web. This is an issue that needs fixing asap.

Might get lucky I'll upgrade from 3080 to 5060 for £700

Digital Foundary's review showing that RT performance is around 3090Ti level and in some cases it matches the 4080. The 4080 is of course better for heavier RT games but the 7900XTX is getting better raster performance in most cases. The card is good value for those who don't want to spend over £1200 but I reckon the sweet spot will be when it eventually drops to around £750.

You have 9 pages of posts about Nvidia (180 posts)
You have 21 pages of posts about AMD (420 posts)

Just highlighting that... hopefully you're not spreading misinformation on purpose :D

The benchmarks I've seen show raster meets/beats 4080 or very close. And it's £200 cheaper.
180 posts about crappy Nvidia and 420 posts about crappy AMD on balance it seems AMD is doing worse in my opinion nowadays. Way more anti consumer practices than any of its competitors or Intel in the CPU and board maker space and GPU sector ie Intel and Nvidia

So you must agree that RT performance of a 3090 is inferior and completely useless since the 7900XTX has the same performance.
Either you are ignorant or simply shilling for Nvidia. I suspect it's the latter.
Rt perf of a 3090 is irrelevant cos it was none starter. Selling Rtx 3090 on RT alone was stupid. I said as much 2 yrs ago if you care to go back to my post as far

AMD is actually more consumer friendly in the CPU space by supporting AM4 for many years, compare that to Intel's 2 Major CPU releases cycle before you need a new motherboard. Sep 2016 to April 2022 (5800x3D). Not to mention great support in Linux as their drivers lives in the kernel

I paid £900 for my 6800XT nearly 2 years ago. The difference then was that I was able to sell my previous card for twice the value it had been a few months earlier due to mining inflation. Now there's a lot more outlay to soak up.

I really don't need one, but I have the dreaded itch of upgraditis...
Yep mining helped the outlay, but now there is no real benefit in mining all these gpus are just really really, and even really really, overpriced to me.

If you have the cash and want to pay that much then go for it, who cares.

Not by their AM5 platform cost. Also they have not confirmed or denied their support for longevity of AM5 platform of this early generation of X670 and B650 board. The issue lies that the AM5 platform has such high cost base - anyone buying into it HOPE they are in it for the long term. But there is nothing guaranteed cos AMD can just pull an Intel and they have done so in many way with their pricing already

To think that AMD is somehow consumer friendly by default is naive cos they are a company and wants to extract maximum amount of profit out of YOU (US) consumers. The sooner the people realise this and vote with their wallet the better

I don't have a problem plying with DLSS (where it has a good implementation) and in general, for me, RT does matter just as much as that extra little salt to a good meal. For instance, if I were to spend eur1000 or so, then I'll keep the money until I have enough for a rtx4080. Or a 4090 if it will be at MSPR at some point. There's also DLSS 3 for those who want this... 7900xtx, to me, would only be of interest right now at $450, maybe $500 max.

Granted, is not everyone's cup of tea and for sure I'm not paying silly money for these cards. We'll see what's up in the 300, maybe 400 euro segment next year. If nothing interesting, oh well, there's always next gen :)
Back in the day, paying 1K for a bit of salt was considered dumb ASF.

Welcome to almost 2023.

Correct.
Caters to the same group who buy any halo card regardless.
