dont watch a lot of subs unless i have to, and then i find it easyer to watch subs with Jap voice over so as not to get confused. I watch Ah my goddess subed and dubed and was amazed at the noticable difference!!!!

BTW i got most of my Macross Box sets now, well most of them waiting for the last one to come i think.

My spead sheet is out of date at the moment though it only tells me what i own, the region and the type of show it is.

BTW do you guyz know if Appleased is coming over hear? or am i going to have to wait for the R1 dvd release. I've seen the trailor but didn't like the animation that much, though the story looks better than the original.

my Macross sets arrived the other day (tuesday?) with a customs charge :(
At least I know where they were for 3 weeks :)

I'm quite enjoying it at the moment (a lot of the time i'm not really noticing the animation being early 80's ;)).

I think Appleseed is due for some form of release over here - in fact i'm sure i've heard something about Genom UK (or Genon Europe) releasing it?
If that is the case, then AFAIK it will be the first Genom release in the UK (although Pioneer* used to release some stuff here, but haven't done so for years).

*remembering that Genom in the U.S. used to be Pioneer ;)

Has anyone taken the chance to watch some anime over the holidays? (whilst off work etc)
If so what?

2 weeks with out any Anime or Manga, I’m getting withdrawal symptoms. I will just have to make up for it over the weekend with Stellvia, Gundam Seed Disc 4+5, GITS:SAC 3 and rewatch Witch Hunter Robin, as I finally got the last disc just before Christmas. If i'm not watching Anime this weekend, i should be building my Perfect Grade Strike Gundam.

I managed to screw up my order of GITS:2 so thats a lucky break. Will have to keep my eyes peeled on any updates.

I've also just ordered Read Or Die & Orguss 02 from Play.

Taken from some online review, but sums up my interest in it...

When I said the story is best experienced than described, I truly meant it. The thing with Lain is that each person who watches it will probably come away with their own interpretation about what really happens in each episode, and the underlying meanings that are conveyed. The fundamental story is about technology and the blurring of the borders between the real and online worlds. There is also a fair amount of religious symbolism, such as life after death and whether or not God exists and in what form. There are numerous questions posed in the series, and even the answers are very open to interpretation. It's definitely not something which will sit well with people used to having the solutions handed out on a silver platter.

I wonder what is your interest? Have you seen it yourself?

Hey guys, this seems like the right place to ask a quick Ghost in the Shell question. I saw the movie and, whilst I enjoyed it, I didn't really follow it too well. Now, I understand there's a series that explains everything in a bit more depth, but what's it called? I've seen something called "Stand Alone Complex" - is this the main series, or something else?

There are two movies and two series.

Movie - GitS
Movie - GitS : Innocence
Series - GitS : SAC
Series - GitS : SAC 2nd gig

Can't blame you for not following the story - The original movie was the whole first series of comics compressed into a single movie.
If you really want to 'get' GitS then you should read the comicbooks. or AT LEAST the first series (which is most likely available in a single 'graphic novel' volume).

Nobody916, if you are after something dark and humorous 3x3 eyes is pretty good.
It's both fairly dark at times, whilst having some cracking humour (the condition of the main guy in it is pretty funny/sad depending on your viewpoint).

For dark, I'd suggest Boogiepop Phantom
It's rather hard to follow at times, as the events in one episode often overlap those in another.
Imagine the story is taking place simultaneously in about 12 different places, with the characters mainly interacting peripherally with the exception of a the main character(s) who are directly related to each of the other tales (so you get the main character from one episode walking past/bumping into a main character from another episode).
It's one of the series that whilst I generally enjoyed it, requires me to be in the right frame of mind to watch.

For comedy, Dai Guard is a very funny series, probably not as funny as Nadesico, but along the same lines (and i think the same studio).
It's about a PR/insurance company who took over the job of running the worlds main defence against a strange alien race when they stopped appearing. When the aliens start appearing again the office workers who are in charge of it's use as a PR prop have to start piloting/supporting it.
It's also got one of the catchiest anime theme songs ever :)

I like thinking/dark films/series which pose more questions than answers.
Then Lain would be perfect for you.
What isn't mentioned above is that it also has superb animation and an excellent soundtrack.
Certainly the best anime I watched in 2004.

i think the SAC series is a totally difference continuity to the films.

From memory the films are in one continuity, but the series is in another where the events of the first film never took place.

The series is very good, with the tachikoma's being a great addition to the cast :)

SERIAL EXPERIMENTS LAIN

Tis a good show one of my favorets, similar to NGE in some respects. I'd say its not your usuall Show, which makes its had to describe i think.

I'm quiete enjoying "Revulutionary girl Utena" described as the next thing to watch after Sailor Moon. Some interesting charactors, and situations in the show, I kind of feel sorry for Utena since it seems every one she knows is either out to oust her from her bride, or serverly mess with her head  Nice girl, and attractive.

3X3 eyes is also a classic i remmber watching it in the 90's sometime alone with deval man. Though i think 3x3 eyes i watched first and found it really enjoyable. The characture growth between the 2 mains is interesting, they go though a role reversole half way though the show.

S'right. There are various time differences and things. You've got the same characters but the films and SaC aren't connected.
Production IG just love to make things simple.

Just finished watching Innocence again as it happens, cracking DTS track.

Production I.G. and GITS don't have a thing on A.I.C. and Tenchi;)

From memory tenchi has 4 different continuities at least, with something like 4 TV series (if you include GXP*), the primary OVA's, various one off ova's, 5 films... ;)

LC, I might go, but i'm not sure what i'm going to be doing/if i'll be able to afford it:)
I had been half planning on going last year but in the end didn't for various reasons.

*which I think takes place in the UT or TM OVA continiuty ;)

hellsing.

one of the best anime's ive seen. its not sci fi stuff, its about vampires.

I loved it.

Also im currently watching through all of the blue gender DVD's which so far are amazing. They are sci fi and a lot of action :D

GitS and GitS:SAC arn't related there totally different realitys is was i was told and i think it was stated some were may be on the AOD forum.

Re:Tenchi
Tenchie univers,
Tenchi in Tokyo,
Tenchi GPX
Tenchi OAV (not complete yet second part is still being produced or needs licencing)

Which makes 4 different shows. when do the Movie take place hmmm think its after Tenchi Univers.

Re: AyaCon, I didn't know if anyone was going or knew anything about it so i thought i post and see. Like you WereWolf, i was half debating going last year and ended up not going. half debating again this year (though prob end up not going).

Hellsing is a good gothic type vampy show, i enjoyed it a far bit specaly the english acent chick yumy (Sarus Victoria (cant spell it)), not much deapth to the story and it seems t diverges from the manga a fair amount but still enjoyable non the less.

Anyone watching angelic layer? it was mainly aimed at the female half but seems to have developed a good male following as well.

(generall gist, in the future a new game has been created called "Angelic layer" we oponents fight using dolls the sized at about 12 inchs. some fight for fun, others for pride, and some just dont like to loss. We follow the main charictor Misaki a 12-14 yrs? as she go to live with her aunty in tokeyo she catchs a glimps of an angelic layer advert. from then on she's hooked on angelic layer.)
its your usuall plot deviese of novice has tallent and beats some of the best players around sort of thing. It takes some time unto until disk 4 untill you get see the real reason behinf angelic layer and why misaki is living with her aunty. There romanse, and comidy in the show, you also get to see people when there down, i'd say its a fairly ballenced show.

Hope this isn't to much of a spoilor discription, and enough for those of you that have't heard of it to at least read better discriptions of it.

stoobar, i've seent he first Disk of Blue gender and thought it was ok does it get any better after the first disk? was thinking of picking up the Complete collection and Movie in one hit.
