Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Completionist in me is gonna hate this game, sooooooo much to do. Just left Kephallonia at level 9 doing all items on maps and using that 50% temp boost you get with the Deluxe edition. Am finding it means you need to play smart with weapons and armor on harder difficulty as even few levels behind on either means much less protection and damage and costs fair bit to upgrade. Mixed feelings with this system so far.

Wait... Wat. Please tell me that Pegasus doesn't fly?! :o

Hahaha, nope just falling in style :p Does not fly but you take 0 damage falling from any height with it, or at least all the mountains and hills I have flung myself of in an attempt to find a limit. Cheeky way to transverse the terrain if trying to get somewhere, just fall off the mountains and your fine.

People saying this game doesn't look great are on crack. It's gobsmacking, and I'm on a 42" 1080p TV and a GTX 970...it's must be incredible on a big 4k HDR OLED with a beefy GPU.

Level 10, and just leaving Magaris, although I've done about 2/3s of it!

Agree. I think it looks amazing. Alternate between 3440 x 1440 and 4K HDR and looks astonishing on either, HDR at times looks amazing. See few wonky textures now and then, but on the whole game looks very nice.

I want to explore that island in the bottom right, that long one. That's huge.

Thats Crete, which if they have it accurate to history should have the mighty Minoan empire on it and home of the Minotaur. I'm looking forward to getting there too as the Minoans were a big interest of mine when I studied Classical Civilisation.

Happy to say that as you get further in the enemies do indeed start countering the Sparta kick, so no more cheesing tough fights off buildings and cliffs.

Also very glad to see that the effectiveness of horseback fighting has been toned down in Odyssey, always found it was too easy in Origins to circle horse kill people on foot.

One thing I do wish though, was that I could filter out or dismantle the dlc/store items because they are clogging up my backpack and its making it more awkward to search through my items.

Agreed, it is absolutely stunning and seems to run very well for me. Plus no loading screens and draw distance that blows the mind. I think back to when we had these games and couldn’t have more than a few trees and a little grass. There is detail everywhere now. Brilliant lighting effects too.

I agree, to be honest reading some of the reviews on Steam for Odyssey has had me literally rolling my eyes. One guy for example who says that the game is not worth more than £20. Baffling. Content - check, incredible gameworld - check, graphics - check , audio/music - check, outlaid plan for future content - check. God only knows what more that person says a game should have to be worth more than £20. This is a title that is worth every penny of its price if you ask me.

My ex stepdad brother used to live in Crete.

I'm level 11 and trying to take on a level 15 Elite, I can either:

A: Run back and forth and attack on horseback and do little damage but suffer none.

or

B: Level up and come back later.

Does anyone know how to get Evie as a Lieutenant on the boat? Got her as a club reward and can see it as redeemed and owned in game but can't seem to select her anywhere?

Holy mother of god @ that boar battle. Lv14 and still had my rear handed to me. Had to flee in the end because it was just silly.

She should be on the lieutenant roster for your ship shouldn't she? I had no issues with using her.

Yeah that's what I thought it would be, but she is not in the lineup. Weird.

Evie isnt selectable ingame until you have earned the Master Assassin uplay badge, which I think is something like 7,500 xp worth of completed uplay challenges. I amassed that when I did the challenges in AC Origins, so she was useable for me straight away but if she isnt showing for you then it may be that you havent got 7,500 xp in Uplay challenges yet

Was debating weather to buy this or wait, not played a AC game since black flag........ wonder how it perform with 980 ti at 1440

So, it seems you guys are really enjoying it then! The wife returns home tomorrow and mentioned she wants to get playing it tomorrow evening. I WAS going to buy it for her but may chuck it on my steam (we have a shared library). If I really enjoyed Origins (not enjoyed an AC as much since #2), will I enjoy this one? Does it improve upon Origins or pretty much the same in a different setting?

It is derivative, no doubt about it, but at the same time it's also fun to just roam about the world which is mighty impressive as usual. I'm not yet sure if I like the setting better than Egypt but it's still beautiful. The game adds some new stuff over Origins like dialogue choices with consequences, naval battles, engravings system, different combat, more varied topography, denser world, random quests, weather etc.

There's loads to do, I'm 16h in and haven't even finished all of the third area. It can get repetitive as sometimes you feel there's just too much of it all with some samey forts and stuff.

All in all, it's similar to Orignis but feels less fresh obviously. If you liked that one, you should like this one. I think I still prefer Egypt due to the mythology, architecture, pyramids and vast deserts but Greece can be equally beautiful, just different. I still remember the moment I rode out of the first temple and saw the desert and road to Siwa, it was astonishing.

What do the CPU and GPU numbers represent in the benchmark? Is that how long each took on average to render a frame? Actually very happy with performance just curious!

If you enjoyed Origins then you will almost certainly enjoy Odyssey, imo they are the best 2 games bearing the AC title. Odyssey is a definite now for my game of the year for this year, looking at the release schedule for the remaining months I cannot see anything coming that will rival it. Yes it has similarities to Origins, including some shared art assets but frankly that makes sense given that the two games portray 2 ancient mediterranean civilizations a few hundred years apart. They ARE going to have similar looking things because they HAD similar looking things in reality. Yes the game play can be repetitive in places but thats a symptom of this genre, even the much vaunted Witcher 3 had repetitive things. In terms of the graphics, the gameworld, the sheer astounding level of detail at times, the land and sea based gameplay, its superb. I would even go so far as to say its a classic and may well end up right near the top of the genre in many peoples opinions (once they are willing to get over their obsession that AC isnt AC anymore and judge the game not on its title but on its actual game)

Don’t like this at all, kinda putting me off buying it!

Its not a huge problem, its just that I got some freebies from having a preorder/Gold edition and unfortunately you cant dismantle the items, so they just sit in my backpack now that I am a higher level which is an annoyance because I like my backpack to be as empty as possible. Just either need an option to dismantle them or a rarity filter on the inventory page.

Nah I got the Master Assasin's badge. Origins is 100% complete and got every other OC game so way more then enough points. As I say, Evie was selectable by default and could hit redeem no bother. She shows up in game as having been redeemed, yet not appearing on my roster. Suspect just a bug IMO for me from sounds of it.

Ah seems I am not only one looking further: https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1938898-Ubisoft-Club-Rewards-Evie-not-appearing-in-game-Forums
