Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Are you guys playing with mouse and keyboard or pads? I played about 8 hours yesterday with the pad and enjoyed the relaxed sitting but i really didn't agree with the pressing 2 shoulder buttons to block. Think may be able to react quicker pressing Q

Any preferences?

Pad here. Block, what’s that? :)

Yeah I played on hard but the combat does not become more interesting by making enemies into sword sponges...this kind of difficulty balancing is utterly worthless.
Absolutely.

And it is way too common and never makes sense. I'm a seasoned warrior with a legendary sword and armour...it takes me 20 swings of the legendary sword to kill a regular guy, but he can kill me in 2!

This isn't just in AC though, it is a problem in most games nowadays. There is no creativity. More health = difficulty who cares if it doesn't make sense.

Pressing the two shoulder buttons at the prompt of them attacking you allows you to deflect (can't tell if you're being serious haha)

It's always a controller when it comes to 3rd person games for me.

I'd agree and I played AC2-Syndicate with a pad but i just can't get the hang of the block. More practise needed!

It still seems to work for me if you hold down the two bumpers at any time. You don't have to be deadly accurate and block at the exact time. (Unless there's another bonus for doing it at the exact moment. I think the time slowdown is for dodging?)

Ah! Maybe that's where I was going wrong! I was just pressing it when i thought you needed to. The dodging slowdown is cool but it's pure luck if i get it or not.

I don't think I'm the brightest. Took me about 4 hours to realise that the bumper was a light attack.

Yeah, that's one thing I don't like about the controller layout for this game (esp. with the Xbox One controller) as the bumpers aren't really suitable for constant hammering as for when you're fighting. Which makes me wonder if they can be remapped. I barely use the heavy attack with the right trigger so it would be much better to swap them around. Does anyone know if this game supports the PlayStation's DualShock 4 natively?

EDIT: According to this page https://support.ubi.com/en-gb/Faqs/000037838/Supported-Peripherals-for-Assassin-s-Creed-Odyssey-ACOD the DS4 is indeed natively supported.

I changed pad controls to alternative. Makes trigger for climbing and attacks are on face buttons. Much better. Block is still two bumbers though.

I might give that a go actually. The previous games always had the combat on the face buttons so maybe I'll prefer that!

Hated this game from the start, uninstalled. Worst one ive ever played tbh.

There is always one! :D What didn't you like from the start? It was basically 300. I was hooked from the get go.

Control method, just spam the spear button. Seemed a step backwards. Black Flag and AC2 is the best of this genre imo

One thing is for sure, you wont get far in the game just spamming the spear button. For me AC Origins and AC Odyssey are by far the best two of the series and are both a step forwards for what had become a very stale series, which just goes to show that different strokes for different folks is true :)

Not played an assassins creed game for years but this does look tasty. One gripe I had previously was tHat the combat seemed very detached and that you were more watching cool stuff happen rather than really being directly responsible for it. Still the same?

Agreed, spear spamming only works very early on. Try that with 5 mercenaries after you and/or cult leaders.

If only they can combine the best bits of both in the next title. Thank goodness they are going down the RPG route, they just need to build on this.

Yet to play the dlc for odyssey, that is my next plan.
