BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

I think it should be listed as 3 year collect and repair tbh. I know that's what other people use. Onsite suggests the repair is done onsite ie a swapout. If it was a desktop PC onsite would assume a person comes out to fix it. Not a return to base.

It's not onsite and it's not return to base.
Its on-site if you register with digimate, although they don't currently have this monitor as an option for registering which is **** so can't register and its supposed to be registered within 2 weeks :(. Anyone else found this or just me? I have emailed digimate but not got a reply yet, anychance of getting them to sort this out Gibbo?

Same here, posted 2 questions on their support system a week ago tomorrow and have heard nothing, useless. Might give them a call tomorrow.

They won't even come and collect it if it's not registered. I was told to register then they will come and collect. It's a PITA! I was told to just use anouther model on the phone, when I said I couldn't find this one.

Tempted to just send it back for a refund and get anouther. Probably quicker.

you can use another model number to go through the registration process but you have to be careful on the pin number page(after the registration page)as it says about using capitals and the difference between O-0. Once through that it should come up on the warranty page, although if you get an error on that page try the option to save and submit, this is what happened to mine but it did appear on the warranty page. I have written another warranty problem question but still have not recieved a reply from last Sunday. Good Luck.

Just a quick comment.

I received this on Monday morning, along with other parts for a new computer build. Ive been testing/overclocking the new PC all day, so I havent really been concentrating on this display.

Background: I have previously been using a high quality Sony Trintron CRT 19" monitor. So this is my first TFT/LCD.

Desktop: I have to say that I am impressed with the image quality on the desktop and when viewing the internet. Though I do feel that the resolution is a little bit too high for the size of the screen. 1920x1200 is a resolution that would suit a 28" monitor. But this down to individual taste. As a result, I have increased the size of the fonts on the desktop to extra large, which has made the desktop readable. Text on webpages is still small though.

Screen/stand/mount:The screen itself, due to its lightweight, can be forced to shake if the surface the stand is placed on, is not stable/heavy. This problem is not as bad as I was originally led to believe - if the screen is mounted on the wall, this problem will go away completely. This is however, the area that DGM made cost savings in.

The image is very bright compared to my CRT and Ive had to turn it down. Its size is indeed impressive (for a computer monitor). When I return to my CRT (which I am using now), it feels strange.

Movie performance
All movies were viewed using MediaPlayerClassic and ffdshow filter. They were all encoded in x264.

I watched about 20 minutes of 300 in 720p. It looked better on my Sony CRT and on my projector, compared to the OCUK LCD. The OCUK LCD made the image look "digital" and not natural. However, I believe this is a problem with most cheaper LCDs. Plasmas dont suffer from this problem, neither do CRTs.

I'm watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory right now in 720p. The colours are vibrant on the OCUK LCD. My Sony CRT is coming off 2nd best here. The LCD OCUK monitor is just so bright and powerful. And it looks "right". I'm not getting the digital feeling, while watching this movie. Ive just seen a scene with the oompa loompas and Ive turned the lights out - the colours are absolutely fantastic. In fact, I have to say they are more vibrant than my Sony CRT AND my Panasonic HD Projector.

Lets try another movie in HD.

Transformers, 720p. There are A LOT of dark scenes in this movie. The displays that can display dark scenes best, will win here and the Sony CRT takes the lead. During the daytime scenes, the OCUK LCD wins it, in terms of colour vibrancy, contrast and vibrance. The moment it gets dark, the skin tones of actors suddenly being to look artificial and "wrong". The Sony CRT maintains an even image quality throughout, while the OCUK LCD excels in bright, colourful scenes, while it struggles during the darker scenes.

In terms of blacks and dark scenes, the Sony CRT wins hands down. OCUK LCD cant even hope to compete in this area. Obviously this will change as LCD tech matures, but for now CRT wins.

My main gripe with this monitor is that the resolution is far too high. The text is difficult to see, unless you sit quite close or have good eyes. My eyesight isnt bad, but I find it a lot less fatiguing if the text is easily readable - being of good size helps in this department. EDIT: this problem has now been sorted by changing the 'DPI setting' in the 'Display Properties'.

Ghosting: Ive heard a lot about ghosting, whenever LCDs are mentioned. As a CRT user Ive not had to deal with this problem. Ive not witnessed any such thing on this screen. Clearly this a responsive LCD.

Heat: This monitor throws up A LOT of heat, from the back. In fact, it generates more heat than my CRT, though I'm sure it uses less power (100W, according to the manual).

Sound quality: Ive just hooked up the speakers of this monitor to my PC. The sound I believe, is mono. You can change volume by going into the MISC menu. It gets reasonably loud. The quality is terrible, however, you can use it to listen to music/video. Im using it right now, while I wait to get new hifi speakers to go with an old amplifier I have.

Pixel check: Ive done some pixel tests, there are none to report. No dead/stuck pixels, which is a relief.

My eyes are terrible (which reminds me, not had them tested for 18 months :p) and I can't say I have a problem with the resolution being too high, but then I used 1280x1024 when I had a 17" CRT so I am probably used to it.

Mine doesn't seem to produce much heat, more than my old 20" but not excessive amounts.

I think you are used to small text, icons, etc.

I use 1024x768 on a 19" CRT. On a 17", reading text at 1280x1024 would be like trying to read ant trails.

That said, my eyes are currently about 1m away from the screen. So perhaps that has something to do with it.

Or press CTRL and mouse wheel up or down to alter the text size on the screen.

Rgr that Keithcun, only prob is that this method is not permanent (you got to keep doing it every time you start IE), but a good tool/tip never the less as it allows on the fly adjustment for various sites if needed.

I use Firefox web browser and have set the font size set to 20. which is fine for m' old eyes.

How do you set it to 20, in FF is just has text size increase/decrease.

Anyone played about with the tilt on it?

Morning all,

Just got mine in now and testing to see if everything is ok. So far, I have found a pixel stuck on blue, so I'm seeing if it can be fixed with UDPixel. Has anyone got any tips for fixing these?

Are many others getting dead pixels? Are these panels that didn't quite make the grade for Dell 24's?

Mine doesn't seem to have any dead pixels, how are you testing yours Jay?

If you download UDPixel and carefully scan the screen using each different colour, you might see a pixel stuck on a particular colour. It takes some careful looking to find one, but once you know where it is you keep being drawn to it. :p

Might be best if I dont then! :P Nah will give it ago.

Have you tilted your screen at all?

I didn't even set it up! I just connected it up using different cables (so as not to unseal the bags) and checked for dead/stuck pixels. I always planned to send it back if the screen wasn't flawless and unfortunatley it isn't. I lose out on the postage, but thats life.:(
