BMW and M Power Owners

Can anyone recommend a code reader that works with an android phone? Would like to see what my car is saying about this potential issue. 2015 F36 4 series GC.
I use this OBD tool...

Veepeak OBDCheck BLE Bluetooth OBD II Scanner Diagnostic Code Reader for iOS & Android Compatible with 2001+ Petrol, 2004+ Diesel Cars and Light Trucks https://amzn.eu/d/098k6LF8

And the Bimmerlink app..

The wonderful Instagram algorithms now know I own a BMW so I'm getting various recommended accounts, many offering "we will code Apple CarPlay/Code XYZ" - however alarmingly some offer "Service History Correction" on the iDrive with before and after photos populating an entire service history on the iDrive screen which did not exist.

My working assumption was this would be something that would be robustly locked down by BMW to maintain confidence in the system.

If a vehicle with a service history correction was take to main dealer BMW would it flag tampering?

I'm pretty sure the JLR is not available to access from guys with a laptop on their driveway, there's only a few specialist I've come across over the last 5-6 years who have access to inputting service history updates on the JLR system.

Thoughts on this car?

2 owners, low mileage, DCT and M2 Plus + Comfort Pack. It was originally sold by that dealer from new and then sold back to them when the previous female owner moved to an M4. Bodywork is in fantastic condition (apparently).

A member of the M2 Facebook group took it out for a drive and didn't notice anything wrong (didn't buy as he said wanted Sapphire Black).

I think it's priced about £1k too high as a car with identical spec, mileage and age sold at £35,111 from Stratstone Leeds last week. It has been up for sale for around 4 weeks and sold but the deal fell through, hence why it's still available. Potentially some room for negotiation.

I'm only asking as it's an 8 hour round trip to go see it, so it would be good for another set of eyes to sanity check it for me.
Well, I reserved it after negotiating them down to a more reasonable price if the deal gets done before the end of June. I think it was marginally overpriced beforehand, now it's definitely a good deal relative to what's currently available.

Nervous and excited at the same time. Aiming to drive to Ipswich and drive it on Sunday.

Awesome, congrats :D Hopefully it's as good as it looks in the pics :)

When the car is scanned at a BMW dealer it resyncs the service history with their database and wipes off any from the iDrive system that don’t match it.

I remember reading that an independent garage can buy a license from BMW to enable them to update the digital service history. As long as they adhere to their rules and regs.

Does that sound right?

Yes independent garages can pay for access to BMW dealer diagnostics systems. It needs to be connected to the car to update the service history to prove it was in the workshop.

It’s not cheap the local garages near me that have it charge more than the dealer.

Interesting. I had my Clubman serviced at Munich Legends and they were cheaper than the main dealers. They used official BMW parts and logged the service on the system.

This is good news. I was starting to wonder that even buying from main dealer is not safe any more with "service history correction" and these mileage blockers.

I do wonder the story behind some of the cars on this particular Instagram page, there is a G80 M3 which had just had its service record updated because "the dealer they used for a service did not have access to the BMW database". You must have a very high risk appetite to take such a new M car out of the dealer servicing / warranty infrastructure. Perhaps accident repairs.

Hive mind...
Am I nuts to buy a 2020 M sport 330e with a 71k on the clock?
I am due to go check and possibly buy one tomorrow, but I am now having massive doubts.
People talk of batteries dying and it not making much sense for a second hand purchase.
I am looking to do a 12mile (6 each way) 5 days a week and was liking the idea of doing it with electric power only and plugging in each day.
I do drive further fairly often, but that's the main use case and why I wanted to go to a plug in hybrid with a short range.

I think it's more my local independents near me are pricey and the local BMW/Mini dealer knocks off 15% just by asking for a discount, pre covid you could get 20%

Considering what you've just had, and the fact you're good with spanners, I don't think it's a nuts idea.

Just bear in mind it's a 320 with a massive battery.

I'm all for BEV and PHEV if it suits your mileage, and in this case it probably does. If you're concerned, buy one from BMW, but I guess you'll have to pay a premium for it.
Batteries are warrantied for 8 years IIRC, so as long as you punt it on before 2028 you should be fine ;)

6 years or 60k, so it'll be out of warranty
