BMW and M Power Owners

Well it’s insured on BMW Flex, and It’s probably vague but says repairs are guaranteed for 5 years and it’s repaired by qualified bmw technicians with genuine bmw parts but I guess it doesn’t mean it has to be at BMW I’ll do my best to get it there if they deem it worthy of repair. I’ll have to see what the insurance say tomorrow and talk through options.
Best of luck, crap position to be in :( As I said before, at least you and your family are safe.

What's happened with booking your service online with BMW?

When I put in my local dealerships, I'm getting a message to say I can only book direct with them, and it's considerably more expensive than other BMW dealerships slightly further afield.

I had the same issue with mine last month. No clue.

The online price isn’t set by the dealer, they want more so have pulled out the online booking.

Our local dealer if you phone up will quote a higher price than online and then reduce if you mention it’s cheaper online then if you ask knock another 10-15% off.

They offer 50% off for friend’s and family so plenty of margin for discounts.

Hadn't seen a review of the china market specific g20 full electric version - stretched for the batteries presumably ..
so if they sold that in europe their ice market would collapse ?

What are the thoughts on a 630D GT 2018? I'm looking to "downsize" from a 2022 VRS Kodiaq and whilst the 6 is actually a bigger car it just looks a lot better as a cruiser and also on fuel especially now I no longer need 7 seats. Is there anything to look out for on these?
I have one. Had it 6 weeks. https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...tailing-thread.18972817/page-15#post-37185012

630d xDrive. It’s a wonderful car, recently did Essex to Cornwall. 48mpg. 6 hours in comfort.

Joined a FB group for them. There are a couple of things that are a ‘when’ not ‘if’ they fail. The electric spoiler has a metal gear that meshes to a plastic gear, which is incredibly stupid, I’m sure it saved BMW 50p on each car but they fail. Of course you have to replace the whole mechanism.

As well the sunroof is prone to eventually getting stuck.

And the air suspension goes.

As well the window regulators, as they’re frameless doors, every time you open and close the door the window goes up and down slightly. So they get used far more often than most people use their windows. As well you have to be careful when they freeze up in winter and defrost the glass around the window before opening the door.

Make sure you get an approved used warranty and extend it.

It is long and wide some car parks are a bit of a nightmare tbh. Any more questions ask away.

I like the look of them so that doesn't phase me although I'm a bit concerned whether my dogs will fit in the boot with the slopped roof without seeing one in person.

I've also been looking at the previous gen 535D Touring, in particular a 2015 model that has a good spec and only 50K miles on the clock.

Are the BMW extended warranties good? On paper they seem to be and the top level on the 535D is £90 a monthi Inc breakdown cover.
With the parcel shelf in, it wouldn’t be great for the dogs. However there is a space for the parcel shelf under the gas strut supported false floor. If you put that under the boot is absolutely cavernous. You could carry 2 Great Danes in the back no problem.

The long wheelbase 3 Series isn't for the batteries either, it's because long wheelbase cars are popular in that market. There were other long wheelbase versions of previous cars, like the 5 Series, sold only in that market.

Would you buy one new then?
no - not unless bmw uk started offering nearer chinese bev prices too, but with more proliferation of models like that saloon in uk, and no reason a touring version wouldn't accompany that,
that would be on the 2nd hand market when I want to replace mine versus Neu-Klasse on the far horizon (e: although 3GT with its lwb'ish 5er rear space is ok)
brand loyalty is difficult to expunge .. but I'm talking myself around to smaller ID3, or after looking over a e-tech at weekend, it's low saloon like profile was a pleasant surprise..

Thanks for the advice, as soon as I saw the electrical spoiler I was sure that was one of the first things that would break :p

In all its glory. Terrible terrible design. There’s someone who makes a metal gear for it as a replacement. But you have to cut the bar, press the gear in place (need a lot of force) and then weld the bar back together. Basically not feasible for most.

Or just get a warranty and know it’ll break. Also if it fails it’s not the end of the world anyway.

Looks like BMW like building in stupid design flaws. They did on the V8 on the F90 M5 by putting the plastic coolant expansion tank above one of the Cats. Over time the heat causes the plastic to get brittle and leak along the bonds and drip over the ignition system causing shorts and damaging the injectors and coil packs on a couple of cylinders. BMW did a recall and replaced the expansion tank with another plastic item which does the same thing. Absolutely moronic.

So getting a tow bar on the new i5, anyone know what type of socket I’d need for the lights etc if I bought a rear mounted bike carrier?

Can’t seem to find a genuine BMW part to find the information off.
I can't imagine the towbar has changed socket type from the previous gen (G30) where I didn't need any changes/adapters from the standard socket on a Thule Epos bike carrier. It was a bit pricey but is compact when not in use and holds the bike fine (hvae a two bike version but only ever carried one bike on it).

Anyone had experience purchasing a Service Inclusive plan from one dearler/franchise and redeeming at another? The service department near me has not responded with a quote after multiple requests. I'm getting close to one year since first registration so don't want to be told it's no longer available so thinking of purchasing from another dealer but still going to the place closest to me. The preference for a closer place is somewhat obvious but they've also been pretty good with everything needed in the past, no BS or bad workmanship so far but their lack of response is annoying.

Done 50 odd miles on the new MPerformance LSD on the 440i GC.

Only been dry so far, however its like a new car in how it behaves around corners and leaving junctions. very pleased with it.

Looking forward to a bit of wet weather to see how it behaves.

Whilst it was there, they found that a track rod end had perished and rear bump stops need replacing. They wanted £450 for a single track rod end.... However, its booked in at the garage across from work for £140 for the pair inc Hunter Tracking!

I'll tackle the bump stops myself next month.

Grr.

About to drive to work this morning and get this warning on the iDrive:

Get out and take a look:

Looks like I've taken it to Halfords to have it slammed bruv init. Looks like rear air suspension failure. I only bought it from a BMW approved dealer on 30th May.

Rang up, explained, she told me to hold because "you've only just bought it, we'll try to get you in asap". To then be told the soonest they can do is 7th August. As well that my car has an outstanding recall, and that can't be booked in until September, why wasn't this done before selling it to me?

Anyway... having to go 2 weeks without a car is a PITA. Especially as I've basically only had it 2 months. It says I can drive it, but I don't feel very confident, just looking at how low it is...

Part of the AUC warranty means they will supply a like for like car if yours is waiting for parts/repair. BMW UK have contracts with luxury car hire firms. As ever, it's down to how good your local dealer is as they have to request it.

I suppose they might argue you can drive it, but I certainly wouldn't to be driving that for long, it's not going to help anything.
