BMW and M Power Owners

Yeh that’s the only downside, I haven’t driven it properly in the dark yet to comment though.

The two things I noticed personally were:

  1. A dark band between low and high beam, where it seems the two weren’t aligned properly
  2. Lack of extended light output that I grew so used to with the lasers

They’re not horrific though and much better than the lights on the F30 still.

Are they adaptive or just auto high beam?

The G20 LCI Alpina I had recently, rather shockingly was just auto high beam, for a list price of £96k.

I had Laserlights on my 840i and now have the adaptive LED on my 740d, I can honestly say there's virtually no difference, and I say that as someone who is fussy about lights! The adaptive element is the important thing.

I’d become very used to how well the Boxster puts down the power.

The F3x platform struggles with the chassis setup, namely:

  • Bouncy suspension - weight transfers on and off the rear axle on a bumpy road, making it quite tricky to put down the power. Not helped by the run flats.
  • Lack of LSD - paired with the bouncy suspension, it means that the car does struggle to put power down coming out of a corner, as the weight transfers from the rear wheel closest to the apex.

Planning on fittings the birds package to it once I’m back up and running with a job. I also think that the car is too muted on the inside, considering it’s 6 cylinders. Want to find a way to improve this without having an anti social exhaust. Mostly needs more induction sound on the inside than pops and bangs.

On the car I had as a loan car it was full adaptive LEDs and I couldn’t wait to get back into the laser lights on my own car for the aforementioned reasons :/

when i was browsing around, the salesman said that the main difference between the laser lights and the adaptive LEDs is the throw and would only be apparent on motorways
(laser looks nicer than the adaptives too)

I imagine it's different on the G20 then.

Is that Fire Red @Maccy? Looks good.

Nope, it's unlit country roads over a certain speed (37mph I think). I often drove along trying to see when they activated but it was so hard to tell. The adaptives on the 7 have a similar effect too. The blue bits look better but performance wise, no difference for me. Edit - I should add that on the 7 & 8 Series, the light design remains exactly the same except for the blue, unlike on the G20 PreLCI.

he was selling hard to get me to upgrade my f36 440i for a new m340i
didn't in the end and kept my 440i

what's the car's build date, if before 06/2018 you can get the MPPSK
to save a repost, mine's here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/bmw-and-m-power-owners.18392172/post-36501057

I found the lasers to be a visible improvement all the time.

Basically, you’d be driving along and when the conditions were right, you’d see a subtle, but obvious enhancement in brightness. Like when in CSI they do the enhance thing.

Everything just gets a touch brighter, like an additional light has come on.

The adaptive LEDs don’t do this, and just stay at the same brightness.

It’s a 66 plate car so I can get it done. The challenge for me is that I don’t need or want the extra power.

The standard M Performance exhaust, which you can also get, isn’t a valved system like MPPSK from my research, and is just a backbox.

yeah i've got the adaptive LEDs but never tried the lasers
I guess the adaptives are good enough for me and that I wouldn't know unless I tried it (just like having a HUD, now can't do without it lol)

it's only 30hp or so, not much and not noticeable for me during normal road use
you do get a straight pipe (resonator delete) to the exhaust on the MPPSK too

Get the mppsk.
Small bump in power along with the best e haust you can get.

I have the MPerformance LSD. It has greatly helped. However, can still feel the backend slide out if its at all damp

Yeh it’s fire red @Robbo, apparently nobody is speccing it so it’s quite a rare colour.

I had the adaptive laser lights on my last one and they were brilliant, can’t say I’ve noticed a huge difference when driving in the dark just now tbh.

I bought BMW connected drive booster package a few days ago in the mistaken belief this would also give me a map update. It says on the BMW site that the connected booster package can offer one package for navigation, information and comfort, so I thought this included the extra benefits like Alexa in addition to the map update. My fault for getting confused I guess

I noticed my maps hadn't updated automatically and after logging in I see a map update is still available to buy. So am I right in saying I still need to pay for the map update? I actually am not fussed about the booster package as all I ever wanted was the map update. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a refund on the booster package or am I out of luck and just need to suck it up and buy the map update if I want it? Thanks
I'm curious as to why anyone would pay for BMW map update, if carplay or android auto is available to use?
Personal preference?

The integration with the car is much nicer, shows up on HUD etc.

I’ve generally found BMW nav to be OK, but it’s far from perfect.

I don’t normally pay for map updates every year, just the Booster Package and Speed Cameras.

Why even pay for them?
Can get them for free online and update via USB (on ID6/7 anyway)...

Just takes a little googlefu to find the download pages. Mines running 2024 maps.

Decided to treat the wife to the heated steering wheel upgrade for Xmas, really surprised, ordered and it was downloaded and available within 15 minutes
