CoolIT Systems - 240mm ECO info

Not sure what barrolde's problem is...
He's been ignoring some remaining Qns this thread for 2mth now.
Perhaps he doesn't work for the co. any more.

Hi Everyone,

This is Barry w/ CoolIT Systems. I've been getting quite a few requests for a 240mm version of ECO and am pleased to let you know that we have one in the works for you all.

I just wanted to get a little thread going on here to get a feel for

1. who is interested
2. who of the people who are interested have a chassis that one would fit in (you need 2 x 120mm fans side by side in roof ideally)
3. your price, performance and acoustic expectations

I think there is a real need for this for system builders so we'll be going ahead regardless but we want to make it clear that we are listening to the needs of the market so if you ever wanted a chance to offer some feedback to a manufacturer before everything is finalized... this is it.

Cheers,

Barry

I am very interested in trying the new ECO 240mm.
I have a CoolerMaster 832 and the 240mm would fit easy in the top\bottom or at the front of the case.

More places to put the ECO 240mm for better testing ;)
Price about £100.

EDIT= I just saw the date of the thread :o I am a bit late to the party :D

The mistake NorthQ made with it's Siberian Tiger II 240mm was they sold it under the crazy idea that twice the radiator equal twice the selling price of the 120mm so it wasn't around long as nobody bought it as they priced themselfs out of the market as for the money people can build their own custom 360mm loop.

As a little bit of forshadowing, when comparing a 240mm to a 120mm you should not expect the 240 to be twice the price nor should you expect it to be twice the performance.

Thats from 9th and 12th of April

I knew they would make the same mistake as NorthQ and that was cheaper at £110.

Sounds like it's something that will stay in the OEM realms now. Makes little sense at that price unless it performs better than a custom loop.

That £125 price is wrong. CoolIT list the eco at $75 and it costs £55 in UK. This means the 240mm ECO at $125 will work out to be ~ £90 when it comes on sale in the UK

You reckon? Not *so* bad then, but it'll have to beat the NH-D14! If it's £90 that'd be an uncharacteristically good price for something coming from dollars.

Hi Guys... woah!

I left Canada on May 24th for China then did Computex and made my way back across Europe over the next 4 weeks showing off Vantage and OMNI which we are starting to ship this week. Its really tough to stay on top of everything while you are on the road so my presence on forums slipped, i'm sorry. I got back here on Saturday, July 3rd and am still working my way out from under the pile.

Anyways, I'm back in Calgary now and happy to be able to get back on OCUK forums.

Let me address the pricing first... our core retail products, based on 120mm rads and fans are assembled in China in high volume which helps drive down the costs. All of the custom stuff (like 80mm, 92mm, 240mm etc) is assembled at our HQ in Canada in much lower volumes which drives up component costs and its also more expensive to get the goods here and get them put together. That explains the majority of the difference in pricing with the remainder just being a small premium on it being the best of breed cooler. Component for component, it is still less expensive than going DIY but the biggest advantage is simply just ease of use and no maintenance. We are all for DIY loops... they work great, we just provide an alternative to those who don't want to take on the project of making and maintaining one

Its just a function of the market right now. We see the need for different shapes and sizes of CoolIT products but those respective markets aren't big enough to justify moving the production of these products to China yet. Since we have the facilities in Calgary, we decided to do small runs of those products here so at least there are options out there for you guys. If and when 240mm production moves to China, you can expect the price to go down accordingly. Look at ECO for example.. we are really trying to offer a best of breed solution at a really competitive price.

In the meantime, I hope you find that the fact that we are listening and making the effort to be the first (and perhaps only) to even bring these solutions to market is a strong sign of our dedication to you and an example of our position as the leaders in sealed systems.

Regards,

Barry @ CoolIT

ps. My last meeting before going home was at OCUK and yes, they are even more handsome in person. Oh yeah, they are also going to bring some 240's in for you guys and CoolIT is sponsoring one to be given away in some sort of contest.

Sounds great, thanks for clearing that up Barry.

I understand what you're saying about the volumes. Hopefully the 240 version will become popular and make a little more sense to enthusiasts like us, rather than to OEMs (where I think it makes the most sense). Of course, this all depends on the performance, which we're all interested to find out!

Thanks for clearing things up,
The final picture will come when OCUK does it's review.
Hopefully someone links to it in this thread when done.

I'm interested in the 240 version but wondering whether anyone could tell me whether this would fit in a Coolermaster CM-690 Nvidia Edition. It has mounting holes at the top for two 120mm/140mm fans and the PSU is on the bottom of the case. However, the Nvidia Edition case has a mesh grill at the top rather than proper vents for fans so wondering whether this would be effective with a 240mm radiator? Also this case comes with two holes for watercooling tubes to enter/exit the case.

Sheeeeeesh

We tell Barry about the Northq Siberian Tiger II 240mm ALC that never sold due to it's price as people are not going to pay twice the price for twice the Radiator so that gets ignored and they go ahead and sell it for slightly more than the Northq and now they are Advertising the Cool-It 240mm as the worlds first factory sealed 240mm ALC system.

So what was the NorthQ 240mm from 2008 then ?

Is there any point in customers giving Cool-It feedback and information ?

Well you can't blame them for this bit:
...now they are Advertising the Cool-It 240mm as the worlds first factory sealed 240mm ALC system.

What's marketing after-all if you can't "bend the truth" sometimes?
But I agree entirely with your other points/sentiments!

And what's happening with the review OCUK were going to do?

IceTea - The 240 Tiger's lack of success was much more a function of the market not being ready than it was price.

There are two manufacturers of sealed liquid cooling systems, CoolIT and Asetek. Sealed liquid is still really young.. we have seen exponential growth in the last two years. Now people know what it is and isn't. To be fair, the 240 tiger was ahead of its time.. not enough case compatibility, not enough acceptance of sealed liquid amongst end users.

Now that sealed liquid is emerging as the new standard of cooling pc's (as we've been predicting) it makes a lot more sense to do a 240mm version now.

As you can see w/ ECO we are trying to be really price competitive. There is a pallet of 240 stock on its way to the UK right now.. should be there early next week. MSRP for launch is 125 USD which is really pretty good. As time goes on and volumes increase you can expect to see that move towards 99 USD.

I hope that helps answer some of your questions.

Is there any point in giving CoolIT customer feedback? We design all of our products to meet various customer needs and do our best to be present on many forums to both share info and learn from the market so yes, I'd say there is. Hope you agree!

Regards,

Barry
