Core 9000 series

Looks like I've been saved by the preorder price, not sure something with that sort of power usage would play nicely inside a silent audio PC, not on air at any rate.

The upside to all of this is Intel will be forced to really up their game. AMD should have more resources to compete and all consumers win.

Now if only we could get some parity on GPUs it would be looking very good.

Well I pulled out of my order for mine with a supplier, even though I got a good deal. I'm concerned with those thermals with the TIM they used, after watching the video reviews and subject videos I think I will wait a bit and see if the manufacturing process improves any to help deal with those hot temps.

I dont fancy sitting in a room with one sitting north of 85 degrees even on a H150i, its a shame not sure what to do now. Can't say I'm all that keen on a 2700X, I want a meaty performance increase from my 4770k which is starting to show its limits with my multi threading style day to day (Gaming, browsing, Plex and Video playback).

What resolution are you at? Why don't you think a 2700X is up to your demands? That would crush your 4770K, not to mention offer excellent value over Intel.

well they touted 17 percent up on last amd cpus. so that puts them about 5-10 percent behind these brand new intel chips that are out now then.. based on them being what they already behind now. so basically you can have now a intel cpu and still be faster now if you want to pay for it. than waiting for a year or more and still be slower waiting for the amd route. its value basically if you waiting on amd route. which isnt bad.

85c is totally fine come on...... Always buy a delided one if you want to save upto 13c.

You see the absurdity of buying a delidded soldered CPU at a premium though right? Especially given how much they are already. The value is just non-existent. It's only for those who want the absolute best and damn value all to hell. There is no other justification for it. I know this is your living so you're not going to dump all over it, but let's be honest.

I'm running 1440p G-Sync, I want to go to 1440x3440 or 2160p in future. But I dont feel the 2700x gives me enough of an upgrade to have me stick to my 4 year CPU refresh cycle I try to stick to, the 9900k was going to be about a 50% increase while the 2700x is around 30-35%. I can see me wanting to upgrade sooner than I want. Its... its just not enough to get me excited to spend the money on it. I know its a bit mad, I'm not totally rational, I know

Well anyway I bought a Samsung 970 Evo 2TB NVMe today after getting 10% off, I will just need to play with that for a bit while I work out what I will do.

Ha ha your a funny one 8 Pack ;)

If those numbers are accurate (I'll assume they are), are you not considering the value component? That extra 15% is costing 100% more!! And it won't be 15% across the board, some games/apps will see single figure differences at 1440p. So it comes back to how much you want to spend and how desperate you are to be at the bleeding edge. That's where the 9900K puts you, but at a terrible cost/performance ratio. I'm surprised you would say that the 2700X wouldn't be good enough. For the price it is, you'd doubtless see improvement in everything you do. Could always wait for AMD 7nm though, as that's going to add a solid 10%+ bump, hopefully quite a bit more in some cases. Cost is unknown as yet, but if AMD stick to form, it will absolutely be competitive.

For those that might be interested, i was thinking about how little Intel have really moved on CPU's in recent times. Up until i moved to Ryzen with a 1700 last year, i was running both a 975x and a 990x. The 990x was/is a 6 core 12 thread cpu on the x58 platform. OK, at the time it needed phase to do over 5ghz 24/7 stable, but it could be done easily.
Yes Intel have moved on since then, so good water + a delid will get to the same point nowdays. Have Intel with the 9900K really pushed the envelope and gone the extra mile ?.................................no, of course they havn't. The only reason they shoved 2 more cores on was because they had to. The 9900k is a desperation bid, nothing more and nothing less. The obvious thing about it as well, is that it's the last desperation bid before Intel are forced to bring a completely new architecture to the table. So all you peeps lapping this up, just be prepared to be in for a very very long wait for the next greatest and latest from Intel.

Its not purely about gaming for me, I run 4 screens on my setup as I no longer watch TV. So when I game I read, watch or listen to videos/music as well as run other apps in the background. Don't get me wrong I do understand where your coming from about cost and it does weigh on my mind a bit (But then again we dont all own the most fuel efficient cars do we, sometimes you like that bit of grunt from a faster car :D). I did manage to order a 9900k at £504 all in for delivery but the temperatures on a triple radiator setup are just a no for me as I want it to be reasonable set of temps under load (65-80 degrees on water) so I can run the fans on a quiet fan curve.

I might wait for AMD 7nm, hell I might even wait for Intel 10nm. There seems to be some movement on dates for release next year, so maybe their 10th gen stuff might be interesting since AMD is pushing back with better products now.

The thermals and power profile are reminiscient of my 9590FX and before someone else mentions it yes it was only eight (integer) cores with no HT . I registered 290 watts system performance with an RX470 GPU.
