DirectX 12

Where have AMD said Mantle is Alpha? If DX12 is broken, I would be moaning at MS....

They've said that somewhere, I'm not gonna go back through all the Mantle talk and videos across the interwebs buddy. They are only at the beginning, that's why there is only a selected few devs that have access to it and that's why the SDK will be released later this year - when the product will be closer or right there at a "gold" state.

Bohemia said they've approached AMD regarding Mantle, but were told it's closed off at the moment, only a selected few. You could see Mantle in the same state as Day Z, nothing more. :)

the bit where you said they spent the whole time talking about mantle :P

They spent the whole time talking about true audio, and then just sort of mentioned the other stuff in passing to be fair.

What is this whole argument about anyway, mantle is coming whether you want it or not, if you hate mantle that much then go buy an nvidia card, otherwise live with it, it's about time someone like AMD came up with some new technology, because a lot of us have lost a lot of faith in M$, 70% of you on this thread stand by them, but they stitched you up, look at windows 8 for proof of that, desktop users were the last thing on there mind, how many of you are still using windows 7.

Going by recent events, I am betting that "DX12" will just be a bunch of tablet guff that no serious gamer cares about.

Either that or a re-worked "streamlined" path available to devs which they could have done years ago and only now offer because of Mantle.

Second option sounds likely.

Thing is though as DX has to cater for everything will it be as good as Mantle?

I don't think anyone hates Mantle, do they? Also i think the trolls (good job so far guys lol) already have nvidia cards ;)

You can't hate something that barely exists yet. There's a big difference between hating something and being realistic. Then there's having money tied up in something in which case one would expect the subject to be very defensive and potentially defend their point till they die*Looks at DM* :D

Come on frosty lets be fair here, DM makes some good points in those posts, we all know it wasn't a launch and most of the slating is down to the hype train formulated by the media and forums like this one.

In it's current form mantle is niether perfect or finished, and no ones knows enough about DX12 to say it will be better than or kill off mantle. Probably best if we just wait and see.

Would you care to snip those good points to me lol.

It will be some rushed POS, maybe intentionally screwed up so they can pat themselves on the back for previously having held back for everyones benefit, and go back to doing so.

Was it this bit?

Or this bit? Where he pointed out to me they don't literally hand the cards out on the day. Didn't know that... lol :D

When you start a sentence with introducing, it normally means you're telling people it's coming out.

Again, they spent their whole time talking about Mantle at the Hawaii launch? Firstly, it wasn't a Hawaii launch, they launched a few cards and announced Hawaii but it most certainly wasn't a launch.

I am not sure why people are being so defensive of mantle in truth. Nobody has rubbished it but the mere mention of MS bringing out DX12 seems to have a few (guessing) AMD owners jumping on it and anyone who owns nvidia (who can't use Mantle) are being called trolls for posting anything hopeful of DX12.

Progression is good and that is what I want in gaming. If Mantle is so good, you defenders have nothing to worry about.

I suspect AMD and MS both started work on a lower level API when the next gen consoles finally nailed down what hardware they were using...which was basically PCs; It would make sense to bring that onto the desktop.

It's just the silly statements people make about Mantle killing directx off. MS and AMD have and probably still are working closely due to the AMD involvement in the XB1, why would either be trying to kill each others API off?
