DirectX 12

Elton John wrote a song about Mantle :D

Mantle isn't going anywhere yet, I'm just teasing. It doesn't offer me anything though TBH. Least it hasn't done in Battlefield 4 or Hardline.

I don't fancy buying Bulldozer at this stage just to reap the benefits of the lower OPS. I'm just fine with what I've got thanks :). They need to get some technically astonishing future titles under their belt. Not this Plants Vs Zombies crap...

Crytek should be able to help with that as long as nothing happens to them in the meantime. A lot of rumours and spin going around.

lol @ people asking AMD fans for proof! Has that ever worked?

Also didn't one of AMD's employees on Twitter when asked dirtectly if DX12 was Mantle he said, quite clearly, "No". To which the normal people on this forum then said the answer wasn't really clear because 3 months ago Johan said something like "DX12 that looks familiar ;)" which means it IS Mantle because Johan would know and can be interpreted more easily than the word "No".

So DX12 won't be quite as good because it supports multiple vendors. I can believe this, the fact that it has to cover everything means it'll probably have to compromise. This is the price you pay for offering support to a wide range of hardware and thus users. This is how you become a market leader and move the industry forward.
Mantle only has to support a very narrow range of hardware so can be more efficient. Even if it mean it only applies to a small number of users and thus is unlikely to move things forward i nthe same way.

Of course AMD have said they'll open it up. So then it could in theory support Nvidia and Intel. Does this then mean that it becomes less efficient as it now has to support a wider range of hardware?

I can believe that Mantle will stay around after DirectX 12 is released, even if DX12 is successful and actually pretty good. I mean OpenGL is still around and has been for years and possibly will be around for many years to come. I think Mantle could definately be the next OpenGL, just with less hardware support.

It would be nice to get an update on how this is shaping up. I kow there has been some down played talk for the XBone owners but I would like to hear something about us PC folk.

A year away now perhaps?

Nice find, I love the "purposefully accidentally" :D

Yep. He knew exactly what he was doing and a lot of people seemed willing to stake reputation on that contract that now never even existed.

So,he was given the benefit from me but as that was a blatant lie whats to say that the claim (and lets not forget thats what it still is) about GW wasnt utter dishonesty either?

At this point I have more proof hes a liar than Nvidia are......just a thought

I am sure Huddy would have got his knuckles rapped for messing up like that. I always remembered nVidia saying they were refused code when Tomb Raider was released but they didn't make a song and dance about it and fixed it within a couple of weeks if my memory serves me correctly.

I actually remember reading, if someone wants to dig it up from the depths of the internet, that NV for whatever reason weren't able to optimise for the gold build of the game on time.

In fact I remember a statement from Crystal suggesting just that. Any ones guess who's fault that was. If the shoe was on the other foot however :p

/throws up in mouth

I was saying earlier, men in their older years cannot lie, that's why the wenches end up wearing the trousers :p. I look forward to the golden years.

That's the kind of response that I like to see. They didn't get the code early enough so they apologize to their users for a sub-par experience while they work on fixing it.

Maybe other companies should take note.

Thats what they say, that it was released with tress fx broken for Nvidia users and it took them a couple of weeks to fix it. I had Green cards at the time and that is correct.

TressFX was at least broken for AMD users as well at launch if that's any consolation. Luckily the dev worked with both vendors extensively to fix the issues and we all got the experience we deserved.

So AMD gave Nvida TressFX after TR was released and Nvidia were given full access to optimise for it.

Well ok :)

So when can we expect Nvidia to give AMD access to Game Works?

They dont have to but that wasnt my point. My point was that a lot of levity was given to Huddy claiming something that is now proven to be a lie
