DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

Thanks for all the advice cheers!!

Also technically, how does this game run on a gtx970?
4690k @4.5 gtx 970 no overclock, 16gb ram and everything set to ultra
runs not too shabby

Anyone get a first time setup or anything when getting this like you normally do, as i didn't, after it had downed, i clicked play, and it just fired up straight away, just wondering if that could be why my performance is terrible ?

I honestly cant remember if it did or not. I know I selected ultra settings on the graphics option. nvidia experience tried to up the resolution to 2715x1527 dsr which ive kept at 1920x1080 as ive only got a 1080 monitor.

just use default settings

Ok cool! Sometimes games default really low when the hardware is more than capable mind, the above stats look good to me

Steam buy and refund could be a good idea but tbh it looks like it takes a while to get the wheel set up and to really get used to the game so i doubt 2 hrs would be a fair amount of time to give the game :(

They should do demos :D

should be fine.

for those thinking of getting and get a refund . try a good car in custom (custom you can try all cars on all tracks ). something easy to drive like a 2010 fiesta rs or volkswagen polo.this game isnt like the other dirt games. you have to learn.

How long does it take to really set up a wheel for this? I dont think the refubd window is big enough for tinkering really

what wheel you got ? g27

i always used same on mine so for me it was easy.logitech default and tweaked ingame.

try 200-540 degrees rotation all stock settings in logi profile make sure centering on. allow game to change tick box

ingame adjust tourqe alignment to say 20 maybe ten

make sure soft lock it off ingame.

Sounds good thanks!

Cdkeys price has gone up a bit so need to make my decision!!

The problem I have with the more realistic end of the driving games/sims is that no matter how good you are you're still limited by looking at a 2d screen, I don't know about anyone else but a good portion of my track driving and general driving rely heavily on spatial awareness and depth of field, both of which are terribly limited in driving games, you also miss a genuine feel for closing speeds and braking distances if like me you go on instinct rather than picking a fixed braking point based on what speed you doing.

All of my real world driving is based on feel - so I need to brake about now, or I need to turn in about now, or it feels like I need to transfer some weight now with a bit more brake/throttle - none of which you can do in a game. I like the idea of a driving sim on the whole but the reality is it's nothing like driving.

Triple screen & proper FOV settings helps with the depth perception, and VR headsets should help even more when they arrive.

Next step would be a motion rig + vr headset, although you could probably buy a car & a few track days for the cost of that :)

Totally agree with you.

Much in the same, though that said I can take it as just being a game. Wheel, peds, and a good stick in a decent setup helps, but it'll never be there without motion.

Game changer might work some in VR headsets, and if only motion simulators weren't in the thousands in terms of cost. Reckon if you combo both of them, you'd be in a good place.

That said, as a game, rally does a decent job of giving you the breakneck reckless feel, better than any racing game iv'e played before.

Seems I finally joined the club and got the game yesterday courtesy of a small competition. Game is definitely very scaleable in terms of performance as I can play it on my 4 years old laptop albeit on 720p and ultra low although annoyingly cockpit view seems to take an FPS hit compared to the plain front view with no bonnet.

I have no space for a wheel setup so will have to get a 360 controller but shouldn't be too bad as I'm not looking to be competitive, just enjoy tearing up some tracks. Played it with a keyboard last night and this is hilariously difficult to control on that :D

yes its really simple just go workshop subscribe to car set up and it will download the profile.

then start a race with that car and as it loads up select the steam profile.

really nice addition.
