*** Elden Ring ***

30,000 Runes every 8 minutes - with a wee bit of variety gameplay. :)

Radahn, set looks really good. Shame it's to heavy for my build.

Here's my build. I think dex is reaching the point of diminishing returns. Currently get slapped around by Morgott, so I'm off to do other things before I go back for my vengance.

Ray tracing released in the latest 1.09 patch this morning. Not had a go yet but looking at the requirements to run it at high at 1080p I'm not sure my 6800xt will be up to it at 1440p:

Elden Ring minimum ray tracing specs:
OS: Windows 10
CPU: Intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB
Target graphics settings: 1080p - Low quality – Low Ray Tracing

Elden Ring recommended ray tracing specs:
OS: Windows 11
CPU: Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16 GB
Target graphics settings: 1080p - High quality – High Ray Tracing

Interestingly no FSR or DLSS though.

Very quick RT test in some areas where I could recall the frame rate being a bit low. Normally I get average fps is about 100/110 (RX6800XT, 1440p, everything max) with lows of around the mid 80s in these more challenging areas. With RT set to low those FPS lows hit the mid/low 50s, so RT is a no go for me without FSR really, as I'm sure there will be worse places than the ones I picked for my test and i'm not playing it at 30/40fps. Shame.

I couldn't tell much of a difference with RT on either - the biggest improvement was that the shadows don't "step" or "jitter" like they sometimes could - but it's probably better to wait for someone with more knowledge in this area to give a breakdown of the improvements.

There are no raytraced reflections too.

Some comparisons i found:

Overall RT looks darker compared to Off and maximum seems to produce more diffused, less crisp shadows, than low.

While I really appreciate properly done RT and find it impressive, I couldn't care less in case of ER.

I knew from the get go it wouldn't get great RT and honestly, the game already looks better than it has any right to on this shoddy engine, with really strong artstyle and location design so whatever.

The change I find pretty big.

Not in terms of…. “Woah look at that!” But it’s just generally “more real”.

the grass and foliage are the biggest change, but indoors is also pretty noticeable.

Could do with DLSS / FSR2, as I’ve had to drop resolution to get back 60+fps.

I only had a really quick test with RT last night, but I don't think I'll be leaving the setting on.
I use the frame unlock to run at 100fps+ at 4k while I play, but RT tanks that number down to 60fps which is just too low for me nowadays.
If the RT had made a massive visual difference, I might reconsider. But I much prefer the silky smoothness of high fps.

And as said earlier, Elden Ring looks really good at stock anyways.

Going to try a new run soon without using crutches from my first time ie, mimic tear/spirit ashes or op weps even after nerf like moonveil.
Should be fun.

Really want to give this another go, what an easy build, in the past the difficulty is what puts me off.

Death is not a punishment, but a learning tool. Forget souls as a currency, more an upgrade resource. As mobs respawn, there should be zero fear about death and loss of souls. Just an annoyance you have to walk back :D

As for an easy build, I'm not sure what is meta these days but go for a blood/life steal build. Run around and collect the items first and then have fun slapping enemies about in the first half of the game.

So how difficult is this game? Would love to try but my patience is thin at the best of times!

Not that difficult actually if you use everything they give you. There's plenty of options and it's the most casualised soulsborne overall.

In comparison, Sekiro is harder to get into and there aren't that many crutches you can use.
Even that isn't impossibly hard though, just difficult and challenging when compared to typical games.

If you don't like dieing repeatedly you won't enjoy it. I regret buying it, but now I have it I do want to keep trying but I have yet to leave the first area.
Use the software patch that retains runes on death, and remember you can copy the save file to create a backup if death means having to start back when you just invested significant effort getting past difficult foes to reach the mist.

Hi,
So, just bought the game. I'm using an LG C2 42 inch and windows 11.

I have windows HDR on, Auto HDR on.

If I turn HDR on in game it just looks reallllly washed out. I figured, okay that's the aesthetic, got to the outside world after the cave of knowledge and it just seemed really off, I figured it should look "beautiful" but it didn't.

Turned off HDR in game and the picture looks so much better, vibrant.

So, is HDR broken, have I set it up incorrectly? What's going on here?
