*** Elden Ring ***

Hi,
So, just bought the game. I'm using an LG C2 42 inch and windows 11.

I have windows HDR on, Auto HDR on.

If I turn HDR on in game it just looks reallllly washed out. I figured, okay that's the aesthetic, got to the outside world after the cave of knowledge and it just seemed really off, I figured it should look "beautiful" but it didn't.

Turned off HDR in game and the picture looks so much better, vibrant.

So, is HDR broken, have I set it up incorrectly? What's going on here?

You don't use windows night light modes do you? Mine goes orangey with HDR on and night light on (same TV). Also as the game is capped at 60fps, you can use this for other game options - just not if you want to play it online.

Nah, I don't use the night light option in windows.

That app looks quite tempting but I don't want to get banned and I would like the online element of the game :)

So yeah... disable autohdr in windows, restart the pc and go back in. Fixes HDR. The game looks fantastic now, so glad I didn't just settle with turning off hdr in game!

When you get down in some of the caves, playing at night and you cant see the edges of your TV makes it very immersive.

Make sure you're playing full screen and not borderless.

I think I absolutely broke my playthrough, decided to explore found a chest that transported me to selia castle area and everything is just murdering me haha... I can't find a way back to the starter zone so I'm basically fresh out of the tutorial in what seems to be an extremely difficult area of the game :o

edit: finally found a touch of grace and now i can finally teleport out of this hell hole damn, I really need to get the horse

edit 2: went back to the first church and lo and behold I get a cinematic at the touch of grace.... can't believe it's possible to skip that important bit so easily!

Lol welcome to Elden Ring. **** knows how anyone actually gets a cohesive idea what needs to be done next 90% of the time

Looking forward to playing this again, shame I can't transfer my PS5 save but guess it's an opportunity for a fresh start. Only souls game I've ever completed (in terms of achieves). Though I basically did on easy mode, int/magic build, mimic tear, someone else assisted in the end bosses.

Finding it pretty difficult at the moment and I'm really tempted to go spellcaster but it feels like cheesing it... I dunno. Saying that, I rely on the starting halberd a hell of a lot, using charge forth.

edit: I think the game needs a training arena or something that allows you to learn the combat system properly. At the moment the game relies on you dying then running back to the fight which slows down your learning which leads to a long process. The more I play the game the more I realise its quite badly designed haha.

I would also say I'm not sure about the free roaming aspect. The previous games felt like a prison you would navigate your way through, I feel a lot less awe and anticipation with this one. I think I've traversed a good 70% of the game just riding around, and I've cheesed some things really easily. Like there was a big dragon in a vast lake and I just charged in and robbed him, of course he looked ****** off but I lived!

First boss I killed was the mounted one at the start of the game with a bow I bought from the coast. I jumped up on the ruin and kept head shotting him with about 50 arrows before he went down, the odd thing with this is, if you went to a specific corner of it then the boss would despawn and respawn on his preprogrammed path but his health loss would remain! I didn't feel bad about this because I thought being 2 shot by him after dodging 20 of his moves in succession was very frustrating. Then again there wasn't really any indication of whether I should be defeating him. The only thing that made me go oh.. about that fight was the fact your need 30str to wield the weapon he drops, lmao.

edit 2:

The horse is also making me ignore the majority of trash enemies. Why bother fighting hoards of soldiers for very little reward when you can just ride through them all and rely on golden runes from skulls? Again feels like bad design.

And I swear if your health drops below a certain percentage then damn sheep and goats will have a go at you when not looking, little ********.

I can't remember what level I got up to but by the end of the game I was so leveled up I didn't struggle too much with the last few bosses.

It was the god skin apostle in the tower I keep trying over and over again (and leveling up) untill I beat him to get the sword I wanted.

This really brought my level up a lot. Then I think Malenia was another one I had to keep leveling up to beat. All in all this resulted in me being pretty beefy.

So I could just stand with the fire giant and trade shots. (Running around like a scared little girl in reality).

Go behind him and hack at his legs and also use the anti fire buff.

Commander Neil stood no chance. I was too strong plus mimic tear I tore him to pieces.
